You were probably over AnalogueAndy's house at the time. It was himTis true I live on the flight path into Bristol, am not a big fan of their planned expansion, but I have you know I definitely don't live 'in an estate' 🙂
[/Runs outside to see if his Exposure will reach in the sky to light up the next bloody noisy Easyjet from Poland]
AnalogueAndyFree MemberMore likely bleedin chavs than Al Quaeda, if you saw it did the pilot I wonder? Is it a regular approach to Bristol problem.
Certainly a spreading one, 737 incidents last year according to this report
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-berkshire-10795767
And this guy looks likely to be jailed for it:
AnalogueAndyFree Membermy name is andy, and..
analogue = reference to me being an electronic musician who kept his kit / collection of old, mostly Roland, analogue synths keyboards when most 'went digital' (although I subsequently sold too many, too cheaply, mostly to Vince Clarke!
and analogue = warm, deep, subtle, dirty
digital = cold, thin, calculated, shiny 😉AnalogueAndyFree MemberOuch! Depends where the break is. In my case no it'll never feel the same as it did before. Even after physio I lost some mobility and it 'aches' after long bumpy rides (and if I chop lots of wood, use the pic axe a lot etc). And there's the added danger that if I crash heavily on it again the plate could break off and sever an artery (fatal time)!
Some great pics and explanation of the plating process here:
AnalogueAndyFree MemberJust spotted this,
Ben did some serious training for both the physical and mental. For the 'mind' bit most of all I've never seen someone so seriously determined.
The 'mental' bit was not only about the 'pain' but exhaustion due to sleep depravation. They had a guy from the University at Bath advising them on sleep strategy, he had one 30-40 minute sleep per day from day two on and later two longer 90 minutes (which got called 'Big Sleeps'!)
Some great stories from the crew who were accompanying him about him 'sleeping' on the bike, micro sleeps of a few seconds. Mad!
They took a broadcast quality camera and did lots of filming. Possible plan to do something with it.
AnalogueAndyFree MemberAn explanation re the GPS track (thanks Tony!)
the website's gps tracker was linked up to software on Alastair's and Dan's phones. The exact phone in use was determined by battery, signal, who was awake, which vehicle was following etc. The tracking phones were always in different vehicles. My understanding of the speed confusion is that the 2 phones' locations were uploaded to the online tracker immediately after one another, with the vehicles being a few miles apart. As a result the gps location could potentially have "moved" a few miles over a couple of seconds therefore showing some crazy speeds! Hope that helps explain things a little!
So it wasn't Tom's driving after all 🙂
AnalogueAndyFree MemberThe GPS tracker (linked on the blog) was indeed being carried in the support van which wasn't always alongside Ben. Not sure about the 287mph though.. perhaps Tom was driving at that point 😉
AnalogueAndyFree MemberHi Edric, one of them riding with him was me! The Team were in touch with the RRA but they only recognise certain place to place and return and distance records not 'the double' so no, it won't be a recognised RRA record ride.. it has been properly adjudicated however, route, support, hours etc and will stand as a record on that basis.

AnalogueAndyFree MemberSame dilema here. In the end I went for both..
Several reasons:
Roof rack:
Speed – often do quick one way trips and the roof rack is quicker / easier. Don't need to faff removing rack, attaching lights etc. Yes the bars add a bit of noise and knock off a few mpg but I'm ok with that.
I'm tall and find it easy using them.Tow Bar:
Was thinking of getting a camping trailer so got a hitch fitted anyway and the extra few quid for the rack means I can use if for longer trips and to give me flexibility to carry more bikes..AnalogueAndyFree MemberMiles: 1796. Time: five days, 21 hours and eight minutes, beating the record by 23 hours
Nice one Ben, and big up to the Team.
AnalogueAndyFree MemberMe too and yes. An Exposure so pulses rather than flashes but notice it getting noticed in all light conditions, even bright sunlight. You can see motorists attention being drawn to it which is only a good thing. Anything to help overcome SMIDSY
AnalogueAndyFree Memberhttp://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=104472019597961&ref=ts
Last 100 miles, looks like he may even knock 24hrs off the current record. He says thanks for all the messages of support 🙂
AnalogueAndyFree MemberGo steady, remember we'll always be here if you fancy popping back 🙂
AnalogueAndyFree MemberPosted 14 years agoAnalogueAndyFree Membernice story and pics, thanks for sharing 🙂
community service has got too short. When I was a lad if you did bad, you had to clean the graffiti off the walls, not ride bikes around the hills.
Now there's an idea 😉
AnalogueAndyFree MemberYes, and economics obviously feature. Ours not a good example as it was a complex job with kitchen and underfloor heating, landscaping etc. Cost £90k all in but added more than that to the house.
As part of renovation work on whole house (Georgian cottage) we knocked off a 1970s utility room to add a (bigger) kitchen / dining room (that freed up space for extra utility, wet room and 'snug' in rest of the house.
What have neighbours done is a good start.
Suggest then a good local architect to discuss options – plus they'll have a good idea of cost and whehter you're likely to get planning permission (if you need it) then if necessary local estate agent to establish if it's worth it.
Hope that helps 🙂
AnalogueAndyFree MemberLiam Howlett, talented bloke, remember interview with him at the time about his kit and approach, not unlike Norman Cook
AnalogueAndyFree MemberI thought this was going to be a thread about Irish Tony's post honeymoon 'paunch' 😉
AnalogueAndyFree MemberMissed this as I was on holiday.. in the Brecons and Gower
Just in case anyone comes back to this thread..
Re Clyne trails, check out the map and info here:

AnalogueAndyFree Member+1 for another Deuter
Twas in exactly the same situation as you a year ago, I loved that bag 😥 zip finally went. Did look into getting it replaced but bought a Superbike to replace it. I do miss the pocket configuration on the old Bike 1 though, the superbike has a larger internal and only one external which is higher up.
AnalogueAndyFree MemberSimwit, off you go, you need to re-create the same crash with no lid on and come back and tell us the outcome (or not come back) 🙂
AnalogueAndyFree MemberSo where's the SPOILER alert!
I've just got in, recorded the highlights to watch later!!!!!!
No need to bother now 👿
AnalogueAndyFree MemberNot me (off on hols) but 3 from our group are. 5am start I hear!
AnalogueAndyFree MemberAllegedly (Ahem) a group set out to ride it a couple of weeks back at ridiculous o'clock on a Sunday morning (7am). Would you believe we met two excavators working on it! The guys were understandably miffed that we'd ridden past the (very clear) signage but did let us past after some pleading.
Almost all the signage is gone and large parts of it obliterated. You'd be better off riding the other trails
AnalogueAndyFree MemberIME the ability of most drivers to conduct any reverse manoeuvre is woefully poor. (Control, positioning, observation, speed).
And I've yet to come across a 'good' driver who can't park or vicky versi.
The standard test includes one compulsory most instructors aim to 'get people' through rather than teach them how to do them properly (how many people still attempt to get into spaces forward rather then reversing in?)
The Advanced test includes all three (reverse around corner, reverse and turn and parallel park).
AnalogueAndyFree MemberA friend tells me all cyclists jump red lights. When walking through the city the other week, we do a count and more actually stop than jump.
Slight hi-jack but recently TfL study across a number of central London sets of lights where jumping reds is perceived to be a problem found that 84% complied. Perhaps more worryingly an unquantified number of the jumpers apparently thought the red light didn't apply to them!
AnalogueAndyFree MemberHa ha. Know what you mean
We've had a few (stand up 'Kit Man Chris') but they either slowly disappear or change their ways
AnalogueAndyFree MemberAlso, anyone know him – Martin somebody?
Oh no, not another stalker 😉

I am a producer on a new BBC3 show which celebrates the nations's quirky habits and obsessions.
Welcome Rosie, you've come to just the right place 😀
Have you thought about a programme (whole series even?) dedicated to the subject of "What tyre…?"
AnalogueAndyFree MemberTesco at Port Talbot near the motorway junction. Is that the closest?

Wasn't it Wiggins that laid into some boy and his dad for pinching his water bottle and breaking the cage a couple of years ago?Nah, that was McKewen and to be fair he only shouted at him.
Agree with general consensus
Have met him, is indeed a genuine top bloke with time for everyone.
Ok Brad and Sky could have had a better Tour but Geraint in white, Brad is not exactly doing a 'Lance'.
Didn't see that Sunday Times article but disappointing how it's generally full of anti-cycling sh!t these days.
No drugs story for a change this year either which is nice 🙂
AnalogueAndyFree MemberHi David, possibly the linky bits. K&A and Ridgeway too much of a faff
I have done some route cards.. what's yr mail add?
AnalogueAndyFree Membercheers peath, can see where you mean, will have a nosey 🙂

I don't want to p1ss on anyones 'get the SAS to sort him' parade but don't you think that they may have more important things on the go at the moment? Like fighting wars overseas and homeland security? I don't think some fat ginger 'roid raged psycho is going to get their attention anytime soon. The local fire arms boys don't get much chance to shoot people for real and deserve the chance of some live target practice. let them have their moment of glory, with any luck it'll be caught on film.I wouldn't be so sure about that 8)
You seem to be forgetting this little incident..
Anyhow, if the SAS don't do the shooting 'the local fire arms boys' (aka CO19) need the SAS there to point out what to shoot at:

Papers this morning thought he was keeping up with it on wireless internet or something. That explains this 'threat to the wider public' idea then, he's clearly been reading the forums and is now out to get all the people who've said nasty things about him! Keep your heads down 😯
AnalogueAndyFree MemberAnyone see Gadget's[/url]comments on the (Temporary Chief Constable) in charge of finding him:
The Unfolding Tragedy In Northumbria
July 7, 2010 by inspectorgadgetThere is a huge and unfolding tragedy in Northumbria. It is the tragedy of T/Chief Constable Sue Sim, her wild hair and the number of times she can say “community” in one sentence. Barely able to read a prepared statement, it has been, quite frankly embarrassing to watch the most senior police officer we have available.
