Surly the key is to plan ahead and have something made before going out that you can eat cold later.

My coming in food was always cheese on toast.

It does look dear, but you can’t just go and buy a new one from a shop.

If you’ve got a build with Ringle hubs, stem and skewers that’s just missing a new and unused post; then the value is based on how much you’re willing to pay.

I’d love an NOS Syncros stem and post for my Dekerf and would gladly pay more than the price of a new Thomson.

Might be worth checking the window regulator mechanism to make sure that the window hasn’t developed play causing it to drag and / or catch as you operate it.

Put the window down, take hold of the top and see if you can move it side to side.

DKG make a 33mm clamp.

DKG designed and made the original Salsa clamps. You have to order direct from DKG in the USA, but an order arrives in a week and I’ve not been stung for import etc on the last two I bought.

thanks amplebrew-that link has a couple of the prices I was looking for!

That’s cool.

Looking at their FB page, they seem to be keen on arranging demo days. Next one looks like it’s this coming Wednesday at Sherwood Pine Forest.

Have a look here for some of the prices.

The UK importers have a page on that Facebook as well if you search for Rocky Mountain Bicycles UK.

Mr Sheen could be pretty good for that.

Try spraying it on, leave for a few mins then use a microfibre cloth.

A number of years ago I was at Coed-y-Brenin when I got chatting to another mountain bike rider in the car park before setting off.

He said that he was going for a ride out as well and he ended up going around with myself. He took a few pictures whilst riding around and then said that he’d send them through to me on e-mail.

A few days later I got the said e-mail with some tiny pictures attached water marked with a copyright logo and a link of how I could purchase them 8O

I’d be considering the differences in head tube length between the two frames as well.

Most size charts recommend a 52cm for my height, but I ride a 54cm purely to get a higher front end.

That looks like intentional damage as the marks whilst going in the same direction, are slightly different shapes

That type of damage would suggest a young person. From experience, adults tend to damage vehicles by kicking or punching (usually whilst drunk and/or angry) rather than use some type of implement.

There are quite a few people advertising transportation to and from the IOM on the local websites.

It might be worth while driving it to Heysham yourself and then meeting someone with a van who is prepared to take it over on the boat for you.

Have a look at manx ads or manx.net and just put ‘van’ into the search box.

I also had a large dog cage brought over to the IOM around a few months ago and after getting a quote from Graylaw and Manx Independant, Manx Independent were the cheapest.

We had the dog cage initially sent from Trans K9 in Castle Douglas, Scotland to the Manx Independant UK depot of Edmundson Haulage, 8 Prospect Place Prescot Road, East Pimbo Estate, Skelmersdale, WN8 9QD using K9’s usual courier for £48 and then just paid Manx Independent separately.

Manx Independent charged me £50 for a standard sized pallet from their UK depot to the IOM.

Am I missing something here? Why not just use your existing chainset with one of those new narrow/wide rings and save a bundle?

And not have to use a GXP bottom bracket.

I bought the XX1 chainset as it was a new build, so didn’t have an existing one to use.

I always use Chris King bottom brackets which come with the GXP spacers anyway.

The cassette’s are eye-wateringly expensive, however they are a work of art.

I’d imagine you’ll probably be able to buy a complete 1 x 11 groupset for £349.99 including brakes from Merlin in a year or so :D

Looks smart ample that guess that’s a normal external BB any issues with converting to GXP?

I’ll have to do something similar with my hope BB

I think you just need one of these converter kits to run a Hope.

I have got a standard Chris King external bottom bracket in that picture. Chris King provide the necessary spacers to run GXP with their bottom brackets as standard.

I agree, I’m running a 32t myself. I was tempted to try a 34t, but haven’t got around to it yet.
I think ill order a 34 at some point, when I do an uplift day it would help keep me more in the middle on the cassette on decents rather than in the 10 for a lot of it.

I’ve got another build planned for next month and I think I’ll put on a 34t on that. It’s can work out dear do though experimenting.

another sorry for the hi jack

amplebrew

yes im running a 32t I get long periods off the bike due to work so needed to be realistic with ratio choice and this is very close to the 22/36 at both ends that I previously had.

ive just spent the day at glentress and I can honestly say at no point did I want more gears at either end, and the jumps between each gear are actually quite subtle.

I did love only having to change at the rear tho it makes it very simple.

I agree, I’m running a 32t myself. I was tempted to try a 34t, but haven’t got around to it yet.

Yep tweets need the chainring so another 70 quid which is what I got it to

Will be running a hope bb, amblebrew what frame you running it on a five?

I’m running my 168 q factor XX1 chainset with a 32t ring on my Mosaic hardtail with Chris King BB.

You need to add £70 to that Tweeks price as the cranks are priced without BB or chainring

Well spotted, didn’t notice that. They must have changed the bit about not including a chainring. The last set I ordered was in June and the cranks came fitted with a 32t ring.

Don’t forget the freehub body

The freehub body is quite limiting as not all hubs will take an XD driver. I’m running a Paul Comp RHUB and a DT240 with mine.

I just put ‘XX1’ into the search on Tweeks and selected each component.

SRAM Cassette XG-1199 XX1 X-Glide 10-42 11 Speed – £263.98

SRAM Chain PC XX1 HollowPin 118 links PowerLock 11 Speed – £39.99

SRAM Rear Derailleur XX1 11 Speed – £191.98

SRAM Shifter XX1 Trigger 11 Speed Rear – £111.99

SRAM XX1 Cranks – £172.50

Sub Total £780.44

I’m running the 168 q factor myself.

Edit – The chainset does not come with the bottom bracket, so add £25 for that unless you want to run a CK etc.

A complete XX1 groupset with Tweeks is £780 with a GXP bottom bracket and trigger shifter.

Edit – Not including brakes though.

Yeah, even the X01 cassette is £225; they are a work of art though.

I bought my XX1 bits from Tweeks Cycles.

There wasn’t a lot of difference in price between XX1 and X01 from memory, due to there being more discount on the XX1.

It’s all the proper boxed stuff, not OEM.

Being caught out on a test purchase doesn’t always end up with people being prosecuted. The authorities might suggest that a warning be issued or that the shop completes staff training so it doesn’t happen again.

They’re usually pretty quick to respond to an e-mail enquiry. I’ve certainly always had an answer back within 24 hours.

I’ve bought a few things off them without issue, but contact them first to check availability before spending your hard earned.

Even if they had something showing as in stock, I’d still contact them to double check.

The post size is meaningless when trying to work out the clamp size. For example both a Jones steel frame and a Jones titanium both take a 27.2 post, but the clamp on the steel is a 31.8mm and the titanium is a 35mm.

Just measure across the top of the seat tube to work out the clamp size. Have a look here.

I think I’ll hang off for a few more weeks and see if Hope bring out the purple so I don’t have the hassle and cost of having to get the brakes anodised.

I’ve really got until December before I need them.

Hope they bring out hubs in purple as well, that would be really great.

That looks cool Matt, did Hope anodise the caliper?

@ banks – It never even entered my head that Hope would do a custom one-off.

Buy the silver version then get it purple anodized yourself?

I’m not really wanting to pay more with Hope bringing it out as a standard colour.

Hopefully it won’t be too far off, fingers crossed.

amplebrew

According to Hope the purple was going to be a normal production colour rather than a limited run, so they must think it’s going to sell.

They’ll probably bring them out within hours of me fitting a set of standard black Hope brakes and trimming the hoses so I can’t send them back

Has Onza been acquired by Hope?
Are bar-ends back in?
Stick me down for a pair.

It would be fantastic if Onza still made the welded titanium bar ends.

I’ve managed to get my name down for a pair of purple Paul Comp hubs for a future build and thought that a set of purple brakes would be ideal.

Surely it can’t be hard for someone like Hope to do a run of purple anodising. They don’t seem keen on giving an estimated date though.

I think the anodised purple is great, but I started mountain biking back in 1990.

whaaaaaat!! hope are releasing purple anno things!! Good lord I hope they release the new tech 3 e4 in purple. I would buy immediately!!

I asked Hope if they were going to produce the Race brakes in purple, buy they said that the colour was just going to be offered on the new Tech 3 X2’s.
