My Hewitt Cheviot is pretty good on light off road duties, but it is probably a lot heavier than a cx bike at 35lbs.

It feels a really tough bike, so I'm confident that it would be up to the job; but I reckon a cx bike would be a lot quicker and easier to ride.

Think yourself lucky that you're not on the Isle Of Man.

All our speeding tickets have to he heard at court, although you don't have to attend in person.

Our speeding fines start at £150 + court costs, not to mention the 3 points as well!!!

    £60 is a bargain 8)

    Breakfast
    Lunch
    Tea…

    …for me

Although I only ever have breakfast when I've got a day off.

I only call it dinner when it's something more official, like Sunday dinner or we're having someone round for tea…..then it's a dinner :D

At first I thought it was my mum coming back from Tesco's in her Fiesta ST…..

She usually clips the back wing coming of of the car park before then kerbing the alloys :D

Happy with my Vaude – secure, waterproof, can carry LOADS of shopping, shoulder strap a boone also.

Another one for Vaude here :-)

I use mine everyday in all weathers and they've never leaked and still look like new.

They're easy to use and quick to take on and off the bike.

I bought a pair of Rivet gloves and the stitching only lasted 4 weeks before it came apart :?

Bit disappointed as I've always thought of Giro as being a quality brand.

Although in my defence; I did go straight to the start from work after finishing a night shift :?

    I had a brilliant time yesterday :D

The atmosphere was really great and the weather was perfect.

Rain on Saturday and rain today, but sunny for the BIG day 8)

2nd time I've done it now, but the first time on a fully rigid bike, it was bumpier than I remember 8O

A lot of Vans are sold to VAT registered people or companies from new and they reclaim the VAT on it.

It will then fall to the next owner/purchaser to pay the VAT, if they are also VAT registered then they will claim the VAT back themselves so it falls to the next one in the chain.

The first private / non VAT registered person who then buys the vehicle breaks this chain and should pay the VAT.

Forgot to mention the electronic handbrake, whilst great on inclines needs quite a few revs and slow with the clutch on steeper hill starts, can't do the clutch much good!

Our new Transit has hill start fitted and it's a nightmare. You have to really rev the engine if you're after a quick getaway.

My best mate has got a BMW 530d which is really nice, but it's a world away from the Ford, Vauxhall, Citreon etc diesels I've driven.

It seems that you need to buy an expensive one to get a nice one :?

I'd still have a petrol everytime though.

I think some manufacturers use bigger turbos to get more BHP from an engine rather than increasing the engine size.

The problem with a bigger turbo, is that you often get more lag.

When Ford first brought out the Escort Cosworth they fitted it with big turbo, they later changed it for a smaller one to make it drive better. (Obviously this wasn't a diesel though)

We got a new Transit van in work which on paper was more powerful than the older one.

It's nowhere near as nice to drive though, all Ford have done is put a bigger turbo on the same engine to give it more power; but giving it loads of lag.

It needs constant gear changes to keep it on the go.

I bought a 2nd hand van earlier this year and had to pay the VAT as I was the first private buyer.

If I sold the van, then the new owner would not need to pay any VAT as I have already paid it.

If you bought the van as a private individual, then I think you should have paid the VAT.

I'd double check that you didn't pay the VAT when you bought it, or it might be the case that a private individual had previously owned it and already paid the VAT on it.

Blimey – amplebrew! did you speak to them on the phone before sending in the email? Are you still going to go for a DB if they get back to you? I think I'm going to give them a ring when they're back from the holiday closure, and see if I can pop down and have a look round – hopefully they'll have a DB on display or in fabrication. Satisfy a curiosity if nothing else – they are about a 45 min drive away.

I've always wanted a DB and I'm finally in the position where I could get one.

I contacted them by e-mail purely as I wasn't in a major rush, I just wanted to get my name down on their order books.

I sent them all my measurements and even a picture of the colour I wanted (Aston Martin Almond Green)

I've been really busy in work and at home to be honest, so I haven't chased them up as yet.

It's still a dream bike for me, so if they called today; I wouldn't hesitate in ordering one.

I picked up some new RC31's from Pace, 440mm for my Obed and 420mm for my RC200 8)

They look fantastic, although they are £199 a pair.

I contacted Roberts around 6 weeks ago, wanting to order a DB. I gave all my measurements, the full spec and even the colour I wanted.

They e-mailed me back to say that they would call me back to finalise the order.

    I'm still waiting…….. :?

I would stay well away from hein gericke stuff it is just pooooo

    :?

I've only ever found Hein Gericke gear to be spot on.

I've got a 2 piece Gortex jacket and trousers that must have done around 40 – 50,000 miles in all weathers without any issues and they're still going strong 8)

It must be hard for charities to get donations these days, there are that many different ones all trying to get help.

I wonder if the current financial climate has affected their donations?

    Onzadog – Member
Not just the Dogs Trust, but any charity like this, is there a box to tick that says "stop wasting money on the PR stuff, I'd rather my donation was focused in the dog"?

I've not noticed one myself, would be a good idea though.

We've donated for the last 6 years and get letters and updates on our sponsor dog.

They tend to send out other bits and bobs like calenders etc.

The magazine they send through called 'Wag' isn't too bad.

Yes – I specified tubeless at order & they came with the yellow rim strip & valve installed

    That's great thanks 8)

Hopefully my valves and stans tape should be here soon. I'll remove the tubes and see if it makes the tyre sit better on the rim.

I'm completely new to tubeless so bear with me……

Am I right in thinking that when you 1st pumped up the non ust Nobby Nic's, you were using them without tubes and just using the Stans rim tape and valve?

I'm hoping that once I've taken the inner tube out of the equation, then the tyres might seat better.

From JRA website re Crest rims –

We have tested it with both standard and UST Maxxis tyres, and both inflated easily with a track pump using the 25mm yellow tape and an Olympic valve stem.

I've just ordered some 25mm tape and 2 olympic valves to see if the tyre fits better without a tube.

Leave the tyres in some hot soapy water for 10 minutes of so

you are pushing the valve in to make sure the tube is the right side of the bead aren't you?

I've ended up putting a bit of Mr Sheen on the bead and they've just about slipped on.

I'm dreading getting a puncture in the cold and rain though!!!

Glad I'm not the only one having a fight getting a tyre on :D

I expect Stoner will be distracted by Stoner Junior No.2 and having to get his barn conversion finished.

Whilst everyone else in the paddock would be distracted by Stoners missus 8)

The new moto 2 is really good and I've found it far for fun to watch then the GP.

I wish they'd go back to 1000's and lose all the electrical gubbins.

I wonder how may of the younger riders (who've been brought up on launch and traction control) would get a bit of a shock?

Although Suzuki had a bit of an embarrassing TT this year as well, especially considering it was 50th anniversary of racing
