The only reasons that we didn’t was that aircon wasn’t standard and whilst the rear seats fold up, they couldn’t be taken out completely.

The rear seats do remove totally but are heavy to lift in and out.

Shame the Citroen dealer didn’t know and told me they were fixed, they might have got a deal 🙁

The VTR 90 we drove was really nice and I could have probably gone without the aircon.

We replaced ours with a Hettie vacuum and it seems to work better than the Dyson.

Our Dyson was a couple of years old, but I was never that impressed with it.

I’d stick with the Henry IMHO

Sorry to be a bore. I phoned the guy up. We did it all over the phone. He just wanted to hear what happened from me.
I advised him that I have no idea what the complainer is on about. That was good enough for the copper and nothing more is to be done.
I’m going for a celebration bike ride today. Phew!

    That’s great news 😀

    Nothing too special for me.

This is my treat after getting in a few hours riding today……

It’s not a school night for me though, shift work means that I’m currently on my days off and as Foxyrider said; it’s on offer.

This will be the 2nd programme I’ve seen about Iceland this last week.

There was a programme about Sigur Ros on the arts channel that also showed just how dramatic Iceland was; especially with their music playing in the background.

I’m ever so slightly embarrassed to say that I never realised how beautiful Iceland was until wathing these programmes 😳

I run a 90mm 6 degree on my Kona Unit, but on my previous geared bikes I always ran 70mm.

I found that my usual 70mm stem was too short on the singlespeed and I felt a bit cramped when standing up on the pedals.

I’m 5ft 7 and usually ride frames with between 22.5″ to 23″ effective tubes.

If it’s the new shape one that your looking at, we test drove one last month when we were looking at changing my wife’s car.

We test drove a VTR HDI 90 and very nearly bought it.

The only reasons that we didn’t was that aircon wasn’t standard and whilst the rear seats fold up, they couldn’t be taken out completely.

I thought the non-removable seats were a bit of an oversight on Citroen’s part.

If I were you I’d call them, discuss need for representation and make an appointment to go in and have it on record that you didn’t do this.

    + 1

I’d definately not ignore the phone message as it is likely that you’ll get a personal visit at home and having no contact could give the impression that you’ve got something to hide etc (Speaking from my own professional experience)

I’d also much rather speak to the Officer on my own terms with regard to dates and times, than have one at my home address.

If this chap has acted inappropriately, I would definately want to get my side across and have it recorded.

It’s not unusual to leave a voice mail, but it would be very basic giving the name of who the message was for and the contact details for the Officer.

I wouldn’t have mentioned the details myself, I’d have just said it was a quick follow up enquiry or courtesy just incase it’s the wrong number or person

I’d call them up and ask the Officer if you’re going to be interviewed or asked any questions under caution.

If you are and you want a solicitor present, you can tell them over the phone and they can arrange to have one waiting for you at the station.

It would probably be a good idea to call the Officer back and explain that your busy tonight and arrange to call in at a time and date suitable for yourself.

If you ignore the call, they will call around the house to speak with you.

As long as you make an appointment, the Officer should be happy with that. If it was anything pressing, they’d have just called around the house.

I don’t have a car at the moment and either cycle, walk or use the bus.

One of the biggest negatives though is that it really limits your available riding locations.

I’m currently trying to sort out a van to just use for trips out as I’m bored riding the local area all the time.

Once I get a van though, I’ll still be cycling, walking and using the bus. It will just give me more freedom to go further afield on rideouts.

I’d keep the car and just use it for proper runs out, use your bike, feet and public transport when possible.

It could either be one of the best things I’ve ever done or a big regret. Someone said that if I want to get another car in the future I’ll have to pay loads for insurance but I don’t know about that.

I think that you get 3 years before you lose your no claims bonus. That’s what I was told by Direct Line anyway.

It sounds like they might just be going to have a chat with you and maybe offer some words of advice over whats been reported.

If they’re going to ask you any formal questions in a voluntary taped interview or contemporaneous interview, you have the right to have a solicitor present or speak to one over the phone and their ‘chat’ can be delayed until you’ve seen or spoke to the solicitor.

On what you’ve said though, it does seem that it’ll just be an informal chat.

UK builders however, much more affordable, Rourke, Jackson and Mercian all do 953 (Mercian lugged only, so look a bit old skool for my liking) about £1000 – £1500 less but with loooooooooooong lead times (up to 9 months rather than 10 weeks for US stuff)

I’d be very wary of the quoted lead times on stuff from the US. I’ve ordered two custom american made frames which have involved long waits.

One of them was ordered in October 2008 and arrived in May 2009 and I’m still waiting for a frame that was ordered in September 2010.

I haven’t got a problem with the wait myself, but just a warning to not take quoted lead times as gospel.

Got my module 1 (DAS course) next week. Need to master the u-turn and figure of 8.

Balancing the bike using the rear brake and gripping the tank tightly between my knees always worked for me.

Nothing to do with kit, but someone telling me about countersteering made a big difference to my riding when I first started.

Basically you turn the bars left to go right, and right to go left.

You new car warranty can be dealt with at any of the manufacturers dealers, so no worries about having to travel to the supplying dealer.

I’ve been spending the last few weeks getting prices on new vans and I found that on some manufacturers, their dealers could match the online brokers prices and in some cases beat them.

I always thought that the main dealers would be a lot dearer and no doubt in some cases they are; but it’s definately worth trying them.

Anything that’s been used by traffic or other specialist depts – Volvos / Mondeos / Octavia’s / BMW’s etc will be really well looked after and may be different spec to similar civilian vehicles.

However any of the normal section vehicles – Focus / Astra / Transit etc are run hard and are usually the lowest and cheapest spec they can buy.

    First Direct for me too.

They’ve always been really friendly and helpful when I’ve had to call them and also quick to sort out any issues.

We’ve had a 1.6tdci LX for the last 3 years and put just under 50 thousand miles on it.

It’s been a fantastic car to be honest and we’ve found the 1.6 tdci to be quick enough for us. It’s been really reliable and the only possible issue is that ours seem’s to be heavy on brake wear compared to previous vehicles.

It’s not as big or as comfy as my wife’s previous Picasso, but it drives more like a standard hatchback rather than a mini mpv; the Picasso was more squishy.

If we were buying a new one now, I’d buy the exact same engine again, just with a higher spec.

We got it at SEAT purely because all the websites didnt have one for the Ibiza SC, which it now appears most would have fit, so could have done it myself *DOH*.

It was rather expensive, they quoted over £600 for it, but we got them down to a little over £500 as they admitted it was rather expensive! Its because they fit a 13 pin socket which has permenant live feed from the battery which requires taking half the car apart and a half days labour! I think the newer models have the sockets already wired in to the CANBUS system so should be a bit cheaper and easier to fit.

Just over the £500 sounds about right. The retail price for the towbar is £195 and the Seat wiring alone is an extra £192.

A towbar and rack is going to come in around £800 all in 😯

I think it would be easier just buy a cheap 2nd hand van and not have to worry about damage and dirt to the car.

I recently looked at selling a frame to someone in the USA and got prices between £120 and £380!!!! 😯

Needless to say, the deal didn’t happen.

I got a bit of a shock at the prices to be honest.

Parcel 2 go did provide the cheapest quotes though.

when i pass my bike test ive been quoted £325 full comp on a Suzuki bandit but i would rather have 4 wheels and a roof

I’m in the very fortunate postion that I only have to use my motorbike for fun now as I can borrow Mrs Amplebrews car if needs be. I’ve just had my renewel through for this year for my SP1 at £230.

How come you car quotes are so much dearer than the bike?

this whole insurance thing is getting abit annoying now.. Im struggling to find any car or van with insurance less that £6000

That’s a huge amount of money!!

I one paid £3500 years ago when I was 21 on a Fireblade, but £6000 on a car seems madness.

It’s no wonder some folks drive uninsured.

We’ve got a Thule Euro 908 for our SEAT Ibiza with OEM detatchable TB. Got it from towequipe and its been spot on. Dead easy to fit and bikes are rock solid on it once fitted. Also comes with 13 pin connector as standard which mates up to the SEAT wiring perfectly. Only downside with it is its rather bulky when not off the car. So long as you have plenty of room in the garage to keep it, I’d well recommend it

    That’s good to know.

If you don’t mind me asking…..

Did you get Seat to fit the towbar and electrics yourself of were they already fitted?

I’m just waiting for a call back from the dealer on Monday for a price with a view to getting discount as part of a deal on a new car.

I get the impression that it won’t fit a swan neck towbar

it’s fine – clamps around the ‘ball’ like the Thule ones.

That’s cool, I’ll have a look; thanks for the heads up.

After having a read of a few reviews, we were going to go with a Thule Euro Classic rack on a Seat swan neck towbar.

The Thule seemed to be a safe bet, although that’s possibly changed after what you’ve mentioned ‘sok.’

The rack you’ve got wwaswas looks good, but I get the impression that it won’t fit a swan neck towbar.

Phil, I think the best rack for you might depend on what towbar ‘style’ you’ve already got fitted.

I get the impression that a ‘bolt on’ towbar is preferable over a ‘swan neck.’
