Winstanleys are a great shop, I bought my old Kona Unit from them and had no issues. The bike arrived safe and sound and really quickly.

You do need to call or e-mail them though to confirm stock before ordering.

If he did want a Galaxy, Spa cycles have got big discounts on them.

Ultra Galaxy with 853 frame and discs @ £1090

They’ve also got a Raleigh Sojourn @ £690 which I think is what Steven Abraham is using for the mileage record.

I’ve used both 3M venture shield tape from Invisble Patterns and also a plastic stick on bumper guard to protect our cars from doggy scratch marks.

It’s also worth trying just a piece of material that you roll out before the dogs jump out. You can place one end of the material under the boot carpet to hold it secure and then just roll the rest up.

+ 1 for Depeche Mode – Violator
+ 1 for SP – Siamese Dream
Deftones – Around the Fur
FNM – Angel Dust

Violator is one of my all time favorites though. I still get the same enjoyment from that album as the day I first played it.

Siamese Dream is also amazing, and I’ve got really great memories associated with the song ‘Today.’

Was it a matt finish from new or has it dulled over time?

Mr Sheen and very gentle pressure with a microfibre cloth is good at removing grime from a matt finish without shining it up.

My 1200GS is a matt blue colour (Frozen paint as BMW call it) and I just use motorcycle cleaner* and not touch the paint unless I really need to. I even use an air dryer to dry it so I don’t need to chamois it off.

You can buy matt paint cleaner and sealant depending how much you want to spend.

I find it amazing that folks park cars out of gear.

Pretty normal really. I’ve been doing it for 25 years and never lost a car yet. Clearly I must know how to use a handbrake.
I’d love to see your reaction when something that’s actually amazing happens.
Although its in the Highway Code for hill parking anyway, I was taught to always park in gear and not rely on just the handbrake. I can’t think of a reason to not park a vehicle in gear.

In fairness, I’ve only got 22 years; so have a bit of catching up to do

It’s a reportable road traffic collision for the Police as your property has been damaged, so they will document it.

The cops would usually locate / contact the registered keeper to get the vehicle recovered and get their insurance details before then giving you a collision reference number for your insurance.

I find it amazing that folks park cars out of gear.

So, if possible, best option is to get the dealer to swap them for no or minimal cost (tyre cost and haggling skill dependant)?

Definitely try and get the supplying dealer to swap, it’ll be easier than trying to sell 2nd hand tyres and should work out cheaper. It also saves you the hassle of having to collect a new car and then take it to a tyre fitters.

I’ve never bothered to swap car tyres from new, but I’m really particular about my motorbike tyres and just don’t have any confidence in OEM rubber.

Not too sure on a website that lists specific tyres but I have often got the dealer to change the tyres on a new motorbike.

I’ve never had to sell the originals though, as I’ve always had them swapped as part of the deal.

I think car companies generally tend to stick to the same manufacturer. Every Ford we’ve owned had Conti’s and I think our Vauxhall has Michelin’s. I reckon the dealer service / parts dept should be able to tell you.

How many issues are there in the Build The Millennium Falcon series?
100 issues are currently planned for this series. If you have not yet taken out a subscription please visit http://www.buildmillenniumfalcon.com.

The Millennium Falcon would cost over £800, there are 100 issues 8O

It’s a handy link and at least gives an idea before swapping stems back and forth.

This LINK is pretty cool and ideal for messing around with different stem lengths and angles and comparing with your current setup.

Edit – IMHO stem lengths are measured from the centre of the stem bolt to the centre of the bars. You will need a longer stem if going for a higher rise.

One of the reasons we bought the petrol was because we didn’t want any potentially expensive diesel problems. There isn’t really much to go wrong on the 1.6 or 1.8 petrol engine; they’re an old unit that’s been used in numerous different models over the years.

My other half does 12k a year, so it wasn’t worth paying the extra for a diesel anyway.

DPF and EGR problems aren’t particular to Vauxhall though, google ‘DPF problems’ or ‘EGR problems’ whilst inserting your manufacturer of choice and it’ll bring up numerous results.

amplebrew

I think they get a bit of a pasting on here, but my other half has had one for nearly 2 years and its been faultless.

We bought a 1.6 petrol Exclusiv for £9995 brand new with a lifetime / 100’000 mile warranty, so it’s worth getting a price on a new one before buying used.

It’s not going to set your world on fire, but if you need a biggish vehicle and don’t want a Berlingo; they’re pretty good IMHO. It’s not a vehicle you’re buying to enjoy the pleasures of the open road, but they go from A-B without fuss.

The interior is particularly a lot harder wearing than her previous C-Max and Picasso which both started to look worn very quickly.

They’re obviously old technology and they do have a high depreciation, but when you’re only paying £9995 brand new; it’s not too much of a pill to swallow. The equivalent new C-Max was £6k more and whilst a Touran would have been lovely; it was £10k dearer.

The Scottoiler FS365 spray looks to be similar to their USB; but slightly cheaper and a larger bottle; up from 750ml to a litre.

It might be worth contacting a local model shop or even model boat club. I always found that people were really keen to offer help and advice.

I used to have model boats, and ran Billings and Caldercraft tug boats.

I really enjoyed building the model, making it as realistic as possible and then running them in events such as steering competitions etc.

Whilst I really enjoyed it, I don’t think that side of the hobby lends itself to to quick and easy fun on the water.

The kits could take quite a lot of time and effort and due to the boats being true to scale etc; they weren’t fast and exciting to pilot and only really made sense if you enjoyed the building phase and entered into competitions and / or joined a club.

Running my Billings or Caldercraft tug around an empty pond would be like watching paint dry.

If you want quick and easy fun, get him a speed boat model.

I’ve never bought from them, but the Cornwall Model Boats website has a good choice for you to have a look at.

Definitely go up at least one size on Shimano.

I’m a size 8, but my Shimano shoes are all size 9.

Even then, my size 9 MW81’s aren’t exactly roomy and don’t really give me much freedom to run anything thicker than Wollie Bollie’s.

I’m 5’6.

I think the heaviest thing I’ve ridden is a Kwak 750 Turbo, but that had a nice low seat and decent balance.

Have test ridden a Pan, which was fine once moving, but putting my foot down on greasy, off camber city streets was a bit scary.
A confidence thing, like you say, I’m sure.

The weight often disappears once you’re moving and personally I find a bigger heavier bike easier and more relaxing to ride. My 1200GSA is a doddle to make progress on as it’s so torquey and planted.

If you can’t flat foot it though, don’t try to push yourself back whilst sat on the seat, get off and push it. If you loose your footing even slightly, you’ll drop it. Oh and obviously don’t park on a decline if you need to get it out backwards

If you use the main stand, put it in gear before you take it off and let the clutch out as it rolls forward onto both wheels. Just reduces the risk of the bike running away from you.

If you get a Pan, VFR or CBR6F for £3k or under and don’t like it; you should have no issues moving it on* and getting your money back.

* Unless you try and sell it during snowmageddon :D

Kleen Kanteen stuff is great for carrying hot drinks.

I know you said that it wasn’t for biking, but their 12oz bottle fits in a King Cage on the bike.

Edit – The above link is to their US site, but they’re easy to pick up in UK.
