It’s great to be able to see what the guide dogs can be trained to do and how much trust their owners have. Must be a really close bond between them.

Hopefully the guide dogs won’t be getting into any fights or chasing cats!!! :o

Not a towling type tape, but Lizard Skins DSP tape is good stuff.

I’ve been a member of the CTC for years now purely for the insurance and legal cover. The CTC website says you might be able to get advice off them even if you’re not a member.

Have a look here.

Definitely done the best thing, he might be a missing person with dementia or similar.

It’s quite common to get older folks missing from home especially if they have health issues. A lot of the time they get found by members of the public reporting suspicious behavior.

I quite like Top Gear.

It’s not always great, but its much more fun to watch than Fifth Gear.

It can’t be easy coming up with new stuff to do.

Cars are like many thinks in life…….. it’s much more fun to do than watch.

Those ODI attacks look a bit suspect

All in the mind

I’ve been quite impressed by them. I’ll see how the fare over the summer to see if I want to go back to Esi’s.

The only thing that isn’t black when I’m out riding is my bike and to be honest even that’s olive green.

Helmet, jacket, tops, shorts, socks and shoes are all black.

As long as it’s day light and not too dull car drivers should be able to see you.

If it’s dark, very dull, foggy or misty, I do ride with front and rear lights and also have a hi-viz cover for my rucksack.

The only near misses I’ve had with cars have been in the early hours of the morning even with my lights and hi-viz rucksack cover. Drivers just aren’t expecting to see a push bike on the road at 3am and get a bit of a fright.

I’m pretty much the same size as you and my road bike was a 52cm with a 53.5cm effective top tube.

It was a perfect reach with a 100mm stem, but I found the front too low and racy for me.

I ended up selling the bike as it didn’t suit my style of riding.

My advice would be to look at head tube lengths as well as the reach.

Not lockon’s, but I went from Esi’s to Odi Attack grips on my rigid Dekerf and so far I’m impressed.

They’ve been a lot comfier than the Esi’s, but I don’t think they’ll last as long.

I changed as I had the same issue as yourself on a recent trip to Aviemore.

I was going to replace my current Sennheiser’s with the PMX 685i’s which I think are the Adidas ones; they seem to get good reviews.

I wanted to make sure that the earphones had a band around the back of the head as I’ve always found that the ‘in ear’ ones fall out.

I’m just looking to replace my Sennheiser headphones after 4 years of use in all weathers cycling and running.

They’re still working, but the right earphone has got a bit muffled.

I was just going to buy another pair as they’ve been great, but will hang off for a few days and watch this thread with interest before I spend the hard earned.

I don’t have an insurer – not for whilst I’m on the bike anyway. Would my home insurance deal with her insurance company? Or my car insurer?

Or do I just liaise directly with her insurance co?

I understand that there are various legal services/lawyers (specialising in bike accident cases) I can employ to handle the claim on my behalf, but I’d really prefer not to get these people involved. It just seems unnecessary.

Are her insurance company definitely involved?
I presume that’s the case, but I only have her word to prove this.

The Police will have her insurance details on their RTC report.

I’d call the Officer who dealt with it to get her insurance details and call them myself.

amplebrew

I’d be speaking to her insurance company as that doesn’t sound likely.

If she won’t give you their details, then the cops will give you all the info.

In fact it might be worth avoiding the driver for the moment and get the insurance details straight from the Police.

If the insurance company want to inspect the bike, they should have an assessor who should come to you.

I’m the same overall height as you, but with a 31″ inside leg.

I ride a 17.5″ 29er with a 23″ effective top tube with a 90mm stem.

I also have a 17.5″ 26er with a 22.5″ effective top tube and a 100mm stem.

Both have inline posts and are a great fit.

I’m surprised you’re struggling on standover with a 30″ inside leg.

Sadly I found out a guy at my work just sold a Tiger pretty cheap (it had a ridiculous, apparently, 8k mileage for a 2 yo bike)….

Assuming I do do it, I’ll be looking for a Transalp, V-Strom or similar. No desire to go big for a first bike….

Definitely have a go on a Tiger if you get a licence and want an adventure style bike; the engine is in a completely different league to it’s competition.

Amplebrew: I really want to hate that GSA but considering I was admiring the new Triumph Tiger Explorer XC (looks lush in Khaki….) and there are, er, strong ‘similarities’ between the two I can’t…. I’m still humming and heying over doing a DAS this summer. If I do it’ll be some adventure variant for sure…

Epicyclo: ye gods mans, what is that behemoth? That said it looks good for tooling around Oz for though.

My only bike to date was a skanky AP when I was 16,

I’ve been riding sports bike since 1998 and riding an adventure style bike has opened up a whole new world of biking. I thought I’d miss my sports bikes, but I regret not coming off them years ago.

Metalheart – get a Tiger 800.

I test rode a Tiger 800 just before buying my GSA and it was a lovely bike. The Tiger has got an amazing engine that has lots of grunt for an 800. I also test rode an F800GS and the Tiger was a far nicer due to the engine.

I very nearly bought the Tiger 800 as I was really impressed with it and only really went for the GSA as I preferred it’s larger size and really love the boxer engine.

Whilst the GSA is a doodle to ride, it is a big heavy bike and I’m not sure I’d recommend it for a 1st bike.

‘out of the way’ in this case would mean rural/farm type location but close to some good trails and some nice training loops for the roadies. Its doubtful that there would be any passing trade as such.

Maybe offer a reason for folks to stop other than to buy bikes and parts.

A TV with cycling DVD’s playing, tea and coffee etc.

Make it a place for people to meet as well as a shop.

amplebrew

Good stock levels, although I would imagine that would be near on impossible.

My nearest shop is a fair distance away and to be honest I order everything online as postage is so quick these days.

Mail order parts are usually on my doorstep in 48hrs or less and that’s to an offshore address.

I only ever use the shop if I needed something same day and of course they would need to have it in stock.

I’ve was running a 32:18 on my Kona Unit and had no issues on a recent holiday in the Cairngorms.

I’ve found that 3 years on the SS has changed my riding style on my geared mtb. I tend to stand up now and push larger gears rather than going through the cassette.

I actually can’t be bothered changing gear, as if pushing a shifter is too much hard work!!! 8O

I’d do it in person as well.

E-mail him and ask when would be a good time to call or meet.

130 miles isn’t that far away, he might come to you.

A bit of a marmite bike, but I think my GSA is cool…

Motorbike equivalent of an Orange Five, you see frikkin’ loads of them and they are way over the top for the ride they’re being used on

I know, I know…..

I made a huge mistake test riding one and instantly falling head over heels with it.

I really love the boxer engines and I’m not old enough to ride an ‘RT’ or ‘R’ yet :-)

I think all the popular parts sold out pretty much straight away.

The purple looks great and I was hoping to put it on a titanium frame I’m building up. I thought the purple would go really well against the matt grey of the frame. I was far too slow though and missed out.

I ended up going for boring black instead as the other colours don’t really float my boat.

I asked the importer a couple of months ago and got told they’d all gone.

I think they had a few bottom brackets left at the time.

You could try Aspire Velo Tech who seem to carry a lot of CK.

I ordered a Sram groupset off them with a great discount.

Ordered on Wednesday at 11pm and I got an e-mail 6.30pm today saying that it’s all been sent out.

I’ve certainly got no complaints.

Ok please explain what you get when you buy a kit? I assume you have to buy radio gear, motor , battery etc?

Would appreciate the info?

Looking at the Mardave site, that Mini stock kit needs a radio, batter, charger, paint and pinion.

The chassis is made by Fibre-Lyte 8)

You can still buy one from Mardave. 8)

Their Caterham looks lovely.
