Normal Hope release schedule

20xx where xx is the current year +1

They are being very secretive about a release date.

I’ve contacted them a few times and they keep avoiding the question.

They’ll be perfect for a new build I’ve got coming up, but I don’t want to wait xx +1 year to get them :-)

Maybe the powers that be should put an auto correct function on the forum.

That could give hours of fun!!!!

I had a Surly cog on a Hope hub with a steel freehub and had no issues over 2 years of use.

I had to replace the cog, chain and chainring in that time; but the steel freehub was fine.

The most dangerous part of my commute is cycling home after a PM shift at around 3am in the morning. Drivers just don’t seem expect to see a cyclist on the road at that time.

The road home is unlit, undulating and twisty so there are lots of blind corners and crests.

I’ve had quite a few near misses.

DKG are really great, makers of the original Salsa Flip Lock.

I’ve got a DKG mountain clamp on my Jones which cost £18 including the postage. It also only took a week to arrive from the USA.

I get mine from here.

I subscribed from day one and have enjoyed every issue.

I’m not big on buying bike clothing and try to spend as little as possible.

I repaired the velcro cuff my old Endura Event jacket the other day with some no more nails :D

I think it looks nice, although I much prefer the raw finished frames.

A polished alloy frame always gives me a hankering for purple anodised bits 8O

Curtis, Pace and Genesis SS look great. amplebrew’s Jones looks perfect and thanks for that info. Are those custom length ESI grips? Chunky or racer and how did you get hold of them?

Hi Jupiter, yeah the ESI grips are the custom length Jones version from Charlie

The steerer has been trimmed down now, I ended up loosing all the spacers below the stem and now just have a 5mm above.

Would a Jones steel diamond with truss fork be suitable for a 5’9″ rider?
I am just wondering if I could get the bars low enough with a truss fork, maybe have to use a negative rise stem. I should try and get a test ride, I think bothy bikes still have a demo. As jameso is a designer and owner of a Jones would like to know more about what he thinks make this bike work, is it the fork, bars and low bb height that make it. All nice bikes, shame the fortitude is no longer in production.

I’m around 5ft 8 and have no issues with my Jones.

I’ve currently got a 100mm / 0 degree stem and a 20mm lay back post.

For reference, the tip of the seat to the centre of the stem is 52.5cm and the standover with Racing Ralph 29 x 2.25’s is roughly 71cm.

St Helens and Prescot way are also nice
I don’t think those letters have ever been arranged in that order at any time in history before this thread.

St Helens certainly isn’t the town I grew up in – its a lot, er, nicer now. I think the towns got its head screwed on an has a great future. Its only downside in the context of the OP is it isn’t really in Liverpool

They’ve spent a few quid on St Helens and although it’s not in Liverpool; it’s still part of Merseyside.

I lived in Prescot and St Helens area for a number of years, so have a bit of a soft spot for the area. Even St Helens which is a fair way out from Liverpool centre only takes 32 mins on the train.

As others have mentioned though, the Sefton Park area is really nice.

Crosby and Waterloo are nice, you’ve got the beach and there are some really great walks up through Hightown and on towards Formby and Ainsdale.

St Helens and Prescot way are also nice.

It depends on how far she is prepared to travel. All the above areas are on a good train link to Liverpool centre.

Edit – You’ve also got Maghull and Ormskirk which are really nice, but I can’t recall how easy they are to access via public transport.

I’ve not bought anything on the forum, but I’ve sold a few items and have never had any problems.

Good communication is essential for a smooth sale. There is no excuse for not keeping people updated either via here, e-mail or phone.

Once I’ve had a confirmed sale with someone, I always give them my full name, address, mobile number and landline. I think it’s important to have a point of contact apart from STW.

I also tell folks when the item will be sent out and then e-mail a photograph of the proof of postage once its gone.

I also only ever send out using recorded or special depending on the value.

I’m always getting e-mails from M&P with Muc-Off offers like this one.

It’s 10 litres for £19.99.

I don’t use it myself, so not too sure if the offer is any good.

I’m really fussy about my bikes set up and have all the dimensions, pressures and torque settings written down

If something isn’t 100%, it gets sorted before the bike goes out.

I only prefer the Feedback stands as they don’t go anywhere near the frame touching only the tyre and the wheel sits right into a channel, so they’re pretty secure.

There are also definitely no issues with different wheel sizes.

Those Feedback stands are great, you’d get everything but a fat bike in one.

I think the minimum seatpost insertion is 4″ on an Intense, so a USE shim wouldn’t be long enough; albeit only very slightly off.

Definitely need to get the ferry and accommodation booked, as most folks that come over are repeat visitors who book their trip 12 months prior.

If you struggle to get a hotel, B&B or homestay accommodation; then bring over a tent and camp. A few of the good ones are Glenlough, Glen Wyllin and Peel.

The 1st week is practice week which means that the roads are open all day and then they close in the evening for a few hours practice. You won’t get to see the actual races but it will be quieter and give you more chance to ride around.

The 2nd week is race week which means that the course will be closed for the races on the Monday, Wednesday and Friday. (Unless they need to use a provisional day due to bad weather) You will obviously get to see the races though and the Island is busier with a better atmosphere.

When you’re out and about on your bike make sure you ride within your own limits and don’t get encouraged to ride quicker than you’re happy with. No matter how fast you are on a bike, there is always someone faster or someone prepared to take a risk. The roads are really great to ride on but do not give any room for error. There are plenty of stone walls, hidden junctions, tracks and the rest of the population are out and about doing normal day to day stuff.

It’s definitely a great event to come and see and the numbers have increased over the last few years; no doubt partly due to the excellent coverage on ITV4.

Just edited my post, thought it might be the wrong size. Don’t know if they make any others.

What frame is it?

amplebrew
Full Member

Cotic, Santa Cruz and Turner all recommend a minimum of 100mm in the frame, but Liteville for example recommend 120mm.

After reading about the chap with the Devinci frame issue, I would be getting the manufacturer to confirm in writing such as on an e-mail.

A new correct size post would work out a lot cheaper than a new frame if there was an issue.

Syntace make a 140mm shim, have a look here. Don’t know if they make your size though.

There was a spanish guy who did something like that.
He trashed his frame.
The thread went on forever and I got bored of reading it after a bit.
Check with the manufacturer.
I’m sure someone will point you to the thread if you ask.

I put a link to that thread in my earlier post, it was a Devinci frame.

Some frame manufacturers seem to recommend at least 4 inches in the frame. I think the USE shims are 100mm, so very slightly under.

I’d definitely be speaking with the frame manufacturer, just to make sure.

If the frame is still under warranty, then I’d contact the manufacturer and get them to confirm via e-mail.

There was a thread on here a week or so ago now where a frame failed whilst using a shim and the company wouldn’t honour the warranty.

The Stumpy has apparently “instantly established itself as the new benchmark for trail riding.”
I am inclined to agree. It is a very special bike. BUT the reviewers don’t have to live with Satan’s own PF30 bottom bracket. I just sold my mk1 Stumpy evo and the BB and the cost of a conversion played a big part in the decision. I’d have the new 26 or 29 inch version in a heartbeat if they had Shimano chainsets.

I’ve just checked the Orange website to see what’s on offer. Frankly, I’m stunned. Top drawer prices and mediocre specs. Shocking stuff from Orange really. There’s absolutely nothing there to make my wallet twitch.

A guy I work with was telling me about the Praxis Works BB conversions and reckons they’re really great.

The list price of the Oranges is pretty steep for the spec, but I enquired about an Orange Five earlier this year and was offered a good discount. I’m pretty sure it was 18% discount off the list price.

October’s MBR has got a test on the Orange Five 29er comparing it with a Stumpjumper FSR Comp Evo 29er and a Remedy 8 29er.

They basically give the Orange an 8, the Remedy a 7 and the Stumpy a 10 out of 10.

They give the Orange component level, shock and fork a bit of a slating.

The Stumpy has apparently “instantly established itself as the new benchmark for trail riding.”

There is a big Specialized advert on the back page though.

Agree with being able to change gear far easier on the drops.

I also think the Campag shifters are easier to use if you’ve got smaller hands. I was able to use my Chorus shifters without really needing to move my hand position; unlike Shimano.
