I was recommended a book Glucose Revolution by Jesse Inchauspe. It’s quite an eye opener about the western diet and the hidden sugars we consume. It gives tips on how to change your diet and eat healthier as well as examples of people who have various health issues and have managed to follow her guidance.

She also has an Instagram page if you’re into the social media stuff.

Was up there working many years ago and sampled Pitfichie, Bennachie and Kirkhill.
Great trails and really friendly, helpful locals who let me join them, showed me the best trails and shared their haribo’s.
I used to think Aberdonians were dour, miserable, insular bunch – how wrong I was.

You also need to factor in the employer contributions which will match employee contributions up to a certain %age.
That in itself is worth more than any investment returns in his salary sacrifice.

I suffered from this years ago and had to stop running at the time. Years later I suffered an ankle injury and used a wobble board as part of my rehab. This not only sorted my ankle, but strengthened / stretched my lower leg muscles and I was able to start running again. Downside was – I had to keep using the wobble board frequently.

If you’re going for Bunnahabhain (one of my favourite distilleries) then either the 10yr old or Toiteach A Dhà (translates as Smoky Two) awesome.

Sounds like your managers want to keep you, so why would they make it easier for you to leave?
Only time I’ve known probation periods to be extended were when the new staff member was underperforming and it was a wake-up call to get their act together.

You’re never going to get an unbiased opinion from an archaeologist on this topic. But I doubt there can be much undiscovered archaeology left due to the amount of digs that have been carried out along the route over the last 20 years.
The current A303 will be developed into a PRoW with links to the north & south, with no road crossings.

Just done mine with 4 coats and I have cedar panels on my gates. The they’re like new again.

Just been doing the same recently on my own driveway gates for the same reason.
Used a belt sander on the accessible areas, a small orbital sander for the corners both with 80 grit paper and varnish remover on the nooks and crannies. Didnt all come off with the varnish remover, but enough to go over it with new oil and these bits aren’t noticeable anyway.

There have been comments above about trusting the builder. Whatever you do, don’t trust the builder – that’s what contracts are for and your architect should be able to compile one that details job requirements, specifications, costs, changes to scope and completion dates.

When my rear Mavic Ksyrium broke, I replaced it with a Mavic Aksium. Very similar, slightly different spokes.

+1 for Billabong wetsuits. Very good range of sizes to get a good fit.
If you’re planning to stay on inshore waters, then consider an impact vest as they’re less bulky. But if you’re planning on going on the sea, then get a proper life vest, a waterproof pouch for your phone and let the RNLI know where you’re going 😉

Was looking at something recently on eBay that was open to offers. The asking price was higher than similar items I’d already seen, so I offered a similar price. He made a counter offer of £5 more so I declined and watched the auction. I didn’t bother bidding, but noticed the auction ended £5 less than I offered. Sellers sometimes have high expectations.

Good thread, as I’ve been thinking the same recently.
Stupid question on solar though – do they need to go on the roof? Ours faces SE to the front and the back gets quite a lot of shading until late in the afternoon. But the bottom of the garden gets the sun all day, all year with very little shade. So is there an issue installing solar panels at ground level?

Oh and well done Brian Moore he did a good job in commentary hope the replacement is as honest about both sides on the pitch.

Afraid not so lucky. BBC is sticking with Jonathan Davies who can’t see past Wales ever doing anything wrong and has the most annoying voice for commentary.
Brian Moore has been a fair and brutally honest pundit. Shame to see him go.

Just to repeat what’s been said – avoid a mattress with any foam. We bought one with “cooling gel pockets”. They don’t cool me down and I sleep half the night with my legs out the bed.
Wife loves it, so we’re keeping it.

Had a similar situation with one of my team recently. Thanks to Brexit, your employee has a maximum period of 6 weeks period working in the EU without any tax implications. Depending on which country they are based in will determine which tax laws are applied – and they can be significant to both employee and employer.

@Nobeerinthefridge the Holmston Road scheme was badly thought out. It didn’t tie in with any other cycling infrastructure, didn’t resurface the area of the cycleway (which was in a shit state) and the coloured surfacing at the bus stops was hideous.
Should have just widened both footways and made them shared paths.

You need to stop running for a few weeks and let your legs recover and heal. In the meantime, get a wobble board and use for 10mins a day. It will improve lowered leg strength and flexibility.
This, as well as proper running shoes, worked for me. My shin splints got so bad that walking quickly or stepping down off a kerb was agony.

Did this the last year it was held. Mostly follows the Red trail with some off-piste sections.
The off-piste sections became a mudfest the last time which made conditions challenging, but I’ve done this on a hardtail with 100mm travel and I’m an absolute amateur.

In the interests of cost cutting, our local authority ended the contract with the local butcher and the meat came from a cash n carry. Mince had to be drained of fat before the school cook could use it. They also hit the main news headlines for importing chicken from Thailand.
I understand that childhood obesity is driving this policy and it’s not always easy getting kids to eat healthily. But the school menus now are a half-arsed attempt and could have done much better.

I’ve used a Concept 2 and they are very good, but I got myself a Bodymax Infiniti rower. They’re air / magnetic machines and very well built. Has similar reach and length as the Concept. Only downside is the bar is slightly narrow, has a huge range of workout features, can be personalised too for your own fitness ability.

So first post from me on this thread and it’s to moan about my wife.
All through this pandemic she has criticized rule breakers for being blatantly selfish / stupid. Well level 4 now bans unnecessary journeys as part of necessary journeys, she doesn’t believe that applies to her urgent need to deliver a baby present!
Spent all morning in a heated debate about it, but she went anyway.

Sounds like you need to wear it slightly higher up your wrist and tighten the strap to maintain the connection.
Don’t think you can change the screen time out, but another annoying trait is the touch screen doesn’t respond if your fingers are wet from sweat or swimming.

So we’ll get Gove on an interim basis until Jacob Rees Mogg takes control and we all end up in the 1800’s being ruled by the upper class (a bit like now, but with more pomposity).

10 years is pretty good IMO. My Worcester Bosch boiler lasted 7 years before it self destructed and spewed noxious gas through the house. TBH, if you know nothing about boilers, then I suggest calling someone who does.

So in the OP, these friends are vegan and organic. My understanding of veganism means you don’t touch animal products, but organic fertiliser is mostly cow sh1t. So by going organic, are they no longer pure vegans?

    +1 for underfloor heating;
Check out http://www.energysavingtrust.org.uk/ before deciding on any eco friendly heating sources, as air source heat pumps aren’t efficient in some parts of the country. I had the same problem when our place was being done – GSHP was a massive upfront expense compared to oil and some GSHP reviews weren’t great during cold winter months which put me off.
As Welshfarmer said – check out grants for wood burners. If you have the space then an automatic feed system is great, but if not, then you’ll be lugging 10kg bags regularly to keep the boiler going. If you do opt for oil and if you have a suitable south facing roof, then get PV cells for the water heater. This will pay you back in about 8 – 10years.

I was also no before but now I’m sitting on the fence. The main thing holding me back from being fully pro-independent is the likelihood of a future Labour administration. Every UK Labour Government since WW2 has put the country in recession as they are inept with the country’s finances. We’re then left with harsh Tory policies to get the country back out of recession (which possibly has something to do with why they are generally hated by so many).
On a UK level, a recession is hard enough to cope with, but with a smaller Scottish economy, the ability to pull out of a recession will be even more difficult and painful.

PFI isn’t the real problem with contracting, as that’s only the finance model used by Clients / Government departments to pay for infrastructure. The problem with contracting is Design & Build forms of contract that means the lowest bid wins, the contractor is in charge and there is normally an unachievable time frame set by the client. This means there isn’t time / budget for a proper design & check (the designer will have got the work based on the lowest bid, so it’s being designed in India) and there are no experienced engineers on site to check the work, so the contractor will get the work signed off.
