60??? I wish! Ambulance workers are looking at the wrong end of 68 and we attend a lot more jobs than the fireys and usually have to carry out pts on a lot of those! (Albeit without their house on fire although it has happened on one occassion!)

Funny that eh? They’ve just announced a new referendum editor- you’d think he’d be aware of things like that.. how strange?

    Similar advice to Jes above.
Used nobby nics on roval rims and they were so tight to get on I ended up buying steel tyre levers!
But after using some of the tricks noted above I got them on (after a decent bike shop mechanic said they couldnt), got them up and had a year and a half of trouble free riding.
Got a puncture last week that wouldnt seal but having looked closely at the tyre I can see a few holes that have sealed anf that the tyre is starting to look quite tired and will prob need replacing soon. Thats 18 months on the original sealant which I think isnt too bad!

Theres no doubt that there is a lot of downtime in their job and because they work long shifts they get a lot of time off.. but to be fair- most of the nhs work similar shifts. Whats wrong with having a second job?
Strikings a tough one though.. times have changed and if they go out the public will probably turn on them- no doubt being fuelled by the redtops and the tory pr machine. In saying that I can see a general strike happeni g in the next year or two.. so many folk getting shafted, eventually they wont be able to swallow it. I for one do not look forward to that day.
I have a lot of sympathy for them though, especially the ones that are only a few years (or were) from retirement. Heard one minister state that the pension scheme will still be much more generous than a private sector pension.. not a valid comparison at all and just another attempt to turn folk against them.
Edit- what ernie said up there..

Get to a proper a/e, a paediatric one if possible and let them look at them. I dont know about your neck of the woods but up here out of hours is just a locum supllied gp clinic. A proper a/e can at least check bloods and do a few other checks there and then..
Just read the last bit about it being his birthday tomorrow. Bugger.

A person’s health isnt always something you can control though is it? You can be as fit as a fiddle in your fifties onwards but it wont matter for shit if some wee tosser chucks a half brick at you at a job though eh?

Are they not striking because theyre being asked/told to contribute four times their current employee contributions but for smaller lump sums and an older retirement age?
Still, at least they’re classed as an emergency service, the ambulance service is only classed as an “essential” service! Because of this and CMD’s latest “reforms” I’ll probably still be working when im 68 which should be a right laugh going to a job 4 flights up, never mind having to get the pt back down..
Still, back to the OP, fair play to them- at least they seem to have a union that cares about them!
Re the chart above- where are emergency responders? It also foesnt take into acvount health problems caused or exacerbated because of their occipation; bad backs, gubbed knees etc..

Even though he’s got two safety clips its just pegs that they’re slipped over!
Mind you- the one with russian kids doing pull-ups near the top of one is probably worse..

I was on nightshift a while back and some idiot rattled the door like a copper so I put on my wifes pink housecoat, swung the door open and snarled “what”??
His reply was sorry mate as he turned round and went back up the path.
I might not have tied the housecoat btw..

I was in my early 30s not long married and with a hefty mortgage. Ended up hating my job as an insurance claims handler.
Chucked it and was lucky enough to get a job with the ambulance service. Not saying its always perfect but I now get paid more (because of shifts), have an interesting job that I enjoy and have plenty of time off for familystuff.
It was quite daunting as I had to pass all my training and my personal life suffers a bit sometimes but I couldn’t have faced the rest of my life doing a job I had started to loathe.
You’re still reasonably young, with few commitments. Fek it, just go for it- if it doesn’t work out you’ll find something else to do!

Due in Oban tomorrow for a rest day. Apparently this means they’ll be doing a few flypasts of the town then it might be on display at Oban airport afterwards.
Nice touch as there were Catalinas and Sunderlands based there during WW2.

Have been reading all of the above fair play for keeping it all reasonably civil folks.
As a Scotsman I’ll be voting yes because I want a government that will be voted for and be accountable to the Scottish people. Who act in our best interests.
I dont mind the Snp- they’ve mostly stuck to their promises and are actually the more socialist party compared to Labour- they’ve protected as best they can public services especially the Nhs. Something the current government seem determined to dismantle in the name of profit, I mean, efficiency. What have the Labour party done to oppose this- nothing!
I cant see how any of thr main westminster parties at the moment are really acting in Scotlands best interests- no ones saying if it is a yes vote then all will be milk and honey but at least a Scotish Government will be just that- Scottish.

As an interesting aside I’ve been following the Gibralter tensions with interest the last few days- wonder if the Uk’s official stance regarding Gibralter’s territorial waters is that they extend straight out from their borders which is why they should be allowed to create their artificial reef where they did.. hmm.
