Similar to on the bike, intervals, long runs etc..
Get decent shoes, from a running shop with gait assessment if you can..

I had crossrides for about 2 years, not out as much as I used to be but stayed true, nothing broke or snapped and I’m on the clumsier side of skilled riding-wise.
For the money I think they’re pretty good.
You could look at second hand on here.. Think there was a set of crossrides going.

Also looks like a retro yeti he’s on.. Love that headtube logo! Could have googled Miles Rockwell to get an idea of what years he rode for Yeti but would only have done so to appear as if I knew it so won’t bother!
To be fair to 2retro4u wasnt he one of the original repackers?? So in fairness to his handle, he’s prob gonna have a stack load of important MTB pics!!
ps, not meaning to be rude retro, sure you mentioned your real name a while back but can’t remember and even if I could not my place to “out” you!!
Anyways, I like the old pics, take me back to when I was about twelve and reading about mtbs in mags!!

Did you have a sense of impending doom?
I’ve always like that one.. Although scarily it’s often true. Fact.

Must be deals on the 575 somewhere with the SB due to arrive soon!
Cracking bike, tapered headtube, a whisker under 6″ and climbs and descends well. My non tapered headtube 2009 model built up is about 28lb with sensible kit which isn’t too bad!

To be fair the frame alone is about 2.5k is it not?? It’s a pretty good spec (viewing on mob site so can’t see wheel type etc..) but 6k seems a bit steep. I’m also wondering why the shock needed rebuilt (with upgrades) if the frames brand new?? Why would you upgrade a new shock that you’d specc’d when you bought the frame? Why not just pay a touch more for a fox??
Don’t consider myself much of a flamer but it does seem steep, even with full xtr..

Just wanna echo what everyone’s said already. Don’t really know you or chat that much on here but chin up mate.
In time all this will pass..

Focus, had both, think the focus is more practical, more room in the back for bikes and stuff.
Had my (petrol) focus for five years/60k miles, all it’s needed are 4 tyres, a steering pump pipe and some oil.
Only issue with focus is that the early washer jets aren’t well sealed and allow water to drip down and collect around the spark plugs.. Just something to look out for.. Think the diesels have an engine cover that prevents this.

Loved it when I walked out of my stressful 9 to 5 office job.. Had been getting more and more stressful as I went on. Remember caring less and less on my last week and my caseload getting less and less of my attention. Boss was a non functioning alky, area boss was her best mate, lot of pressure to meet targets and was affecting my
life outside of work.. Ie, finishing on Friday night and getting stressed about going back in on the Monday!!
Still see some of my old colleagues that still work there, just makes me glad I got out when I did!! Can’t really remember my last day.. Went to the pub at lunchtime and can’t remember the afternoon!!

Does that mean I’m in? Not the first time I’ve said that phrase..
(I’m referring to the time I applied for a job and they called and took ages actually telling i’d got it!)

04 enduro sworks. Was my dream bike at the time, actually kept it in the living room so I could look at it all the time.. 😀 Ended up selling it and the old rockhopper for funds for my 575.
Loved that enduro, long travel (at the time), looked stealthy, and put many, many miles in on it.
    Sigh.

Interested in this myself but my wife isn’t happy with the idea..
Can I ask how old your toddler is? What trailer are you using?
I’m quite hard pressed to get out on the bike much with having my own wee boy and working nightshifts.. Was thinking about getting a cheap wee trailer and just cycling round our local loch which is only a half mile away for a bit of fitness… My wife doesn’t want my wee boy in a trailer on the road but thinks I’ll be arrested if I cycle the half mile down to the loch on the pavement!!
Anyone know about the legality of it? My street is quiet and although the main road at the end does have a sort of cycle lane it is fairly busy and although it’s a 30 limit most folk do 40+!!
Getting back on topic (phew) have cycled a bit around Aviemore, dulnain bridge etc.. There’s some nice off road cycle routes that start at the top end of Aviemore.. Perfect for trailers, nice and wide etc.. I’m sure boggy bikes could give you some good info regarding the local area.

Begbie, thinks I’ve cleaned it a grand total of 3 times in my life and that was when I was much fitter and cycling to work every day. Now I work shifts have a family and am lucky to get out once a month.. The greeny road up to the trig point is longer but a lot gentler.. Apart from the last climb up to the trig. Was doable in the past but mxrs have torn itup to the point where it’s difficult on foot!

AMc yup, deffo better. Shame it’s a two and a half hour drive there as opposed to 45 min to cv..
Cvs no where near as good but it’s still a fun wee midweek quicky ride..

Had a mate that stayed in Clydebank and used to cycle up that fairly often. A proud moment when I cleaned that the first time.. You can cut onto the rocky ridge at the top of that road and it’s a nice wee descent on the tracks made by the local shepherd and his quad..

Wtf? Really? In CV? Why did I go to Kirroughtree today!!

    althepal
    Full Member

Dress talk aside ( been there, survived it), me and and a coupla mates did the black at Kirroughtree today, trails dry and swoopy, bike hoovered it all up and had a great day. Came home to a lovely home cooked Diinner and even managed to get a leaking boiler sorted out in time to put my wee boy to bed. An awesome day!
Af is a bitch, also sending positive vibes out to all and hoping that any dress related stresses are abated soon. Oh aye, I’ve heard that coast stuff is lovely but VERY expensive… £200 for a
Dress? I could get a wheel for that!!

Just changed from Mountain kings (black chilli 2.2) to nobby nics and went round kirroughtree today. The MKs were great when I first fitted them but seemed to fall away. Possibly because of commuting on them?
The NNs were fantastic today, same weight, same good rolling resistance but the grip was brilliant on the dry trails and rock step ups. Big improvement IMHO.
Cracking deal on them at on one just now, almost half price. Might be last years tyre or something but great value at £23 an end!
    That is all.

Lift up the oil filler cap, run your finger round the inside- if it has a lot of white gunk theres oil getting into the cylinders somewhere- prob head gasket.
Check that the engine is cold before you start it- a warmed up engine runs better usually- look for very blue or black smoke on startup (unless its a diesel).
Check for even tyre wear on all corners, bounce up and down once on each of the corners, any more than 2 or 3 bounces after yours and the shocks could be ropey.
Look for uneven/faded panels indicating prev crash damage, check the sills for rust/bodged repairs.
Lift up the boot carpet and the carpets just inside the doors to check for rust/welds/repairs.
Dont buy off a boy racer as its prob been ragged.
If you thinks theres something not right with it, walk away, it might look nice but trust your gut instinct- tehres plenty more cars out there to chioose from.
Most of the above apply from the days when I was mostly buying and running old minis but think they prob still apply nowadays!

Christ, was considering using Stans conversion kit at some point to go tubeless..
Knew it would be a pain to get inflated and seated etc.. But that all sounds horrendous!
Is it really that difficult to do? Have never heard of having to inflate with a tube first to get the bead on…
*might just stick with inner tubes after all after reading this…*

Can only second the comments about the service from Smudge/MTBbatteries.com. Bought one of the XML lights from him, got it within a few days of contacting him to enquire if there was any left, great communication with email updates and the like.
Was worried about buying a “cheap” light but am reassured by the service and communication from him.
Would deffo recommend him to friends (and have already..).

Yeti 575, nicer looking IMHO (less fussy), just as good and prob deals to be had if you look around so prob a fair bit cheaper..
I have an alu/carbon 2010 and it really is the bomb.
    Yes, I just said “bomb”.

Half hour of nightshift to go, then sleep, then a leaving night for one of the nurses tonight. Tomorrow has a communion, a kids party and back on nightshift.

Ambulance Service for me- havent had as q*uiet a nightshift as this since I worked nights in a wee rural station..
Time off with 12hour shifts is good but they can be brutal sometimes, at least we have to get our meal breaks by law these days!!

The grit stuff is also there to give it a bigger surface area so it lasts longer in the sunlight- ie helps the heat dissapate, apart from shonky fitting this is one of the biggest causes of flat roof failure.
Used to deal with lots of claims for them in my old job- max you’d usually get out a flat roof is 8-10 years tops.
There were some fancy plastic bonded ones coming in back then but changed jobs so havent kept up.
Keep an eye on the patch that you’ve taken the gravel off.

Had a zoomer there to break the monotony..
I think I’ve hit a bit of a wall now cos my eyes are sore and I wanna sleep.
Will have my weetabix and fruit corner, fill out my overtime sheet and maybe go for a kip.
This is ot for me- starting a run of 7 nights tonight altough I have managed to get sat night off and have a leaving night for one of the nurses so not all bad..
