Rode to work tonight, after redo ing to try and got as much saddle time in as possible. Hard when I work 7 nightshifts on then 7 off, with a baby boy in the house! Was a very pleasant 12 miles with the sun shining. Almost beat my prev pb and that was when it was just over 10 miles to the old station.. Happy days. Not sure I fancy the cycle home again after my shift tho!

I would say no, my wee boys 21 months and he’s pretty good on the stairs, up and down like a (not on-one) whippet. Still has his not paying attention moments on the flats never mind the stairs so it’ll be a while before he gets unsupervised access to ours methinks..

    ^^ what he said^^
concrete makes sense in California and other hot places..
Not in the uk tho, and most of northern Europe too now I think about it!!
Let’s not forget that bloody Bauhaus movement neither! It’s fine for an exhibition piece but not for residences that folk actually have to live in that have asthma and similar illnesses!

Sorry, that “after” pic of the seminary is prob a bit optimistic, was prob taken 10 or 15 years ago.
Place is much worse now.. Deteriorating quite badly, would be surprised if, in the current financial climate, it’ll be restored/saved..
Managed to have a “cheeky” look at the place.. The collapsed suspended wooden lecture theatre ceiling almost made me cry!!
    Sigh.

Ps, props to elfin for these threads.. Love my buildings, history etc..

I kinda like the brutalist style of architecture.. Reminds us of the time when concrete was the go to material of the future.. It all looks ugly to us now but at the time it was the stuff of Buck Rodgers et al..
So.. Let’s see.. Here in scotchland, anything by Messrs Gillespie, Kidd and Coia would prob work.. Cardross Seminary perhaps? Now sitting ruined, crumbling and on the endangered list. Once a stunning building inside and out, have wandered round it recently and you can still imagine how it would have been so exciting to look at when new..
    Then:

    Now:

Just to prove concrete can be done sympathetically:

    Thank you Frank Lloyd Wright!

93 outing someone from the classifieds for being dodgy/not sending the item I bought quickly enough/not sending the item at all/ not sending the item they described/not sending a reply to my 22 emails about them not sending my item within 12 hours of me paying for it*.

Know my way round the area reasonably well- drive down South St most nights so know about the potholes!
JY, yep, last minute but it’s not very well organised and I’d rather have some route info before I go!
Googled it and found some info so it’s all good!

    Three things:
Make sure my two kids grow up into decent human beings, one still in the post btw.
Try to get as much out of every day I have left.
Ride my bike a bit more- I wish!

Most enjoyable thing I’ve done? A tie between working with kids in Albania for a few weeks many moons ago (gives perspective) or being there when my wee boy Cameron came into the world- still chokes me up that. Is that allowed??

£10 to make a difference? Like the hospital present thing- cheered me up to! Either that or donate to Yorkhill kids hospital- breaks my heart every time I take a sick wean in there..

Used to use wheelies as our bike supplier years ago when
I worked in insurance.. Bought a lot of stuff off them myself over 2 or 3 years..
Used mainly cos I got a very good discount but always got great service from them..
Can’t for the life of me remember who I always dealt with over the phone tho..was a sound bloke tho!!

Tj, option three.. Is that to take ownership of the bike? Ie, say it’s a £1k bike, you would Pay £42 and that’s it?
That can’t be right? Not with all the folk on here moaning about it! Not that that’s not par for the course on here I accept!
    Surely it’s worse than that?
Ps, ta all for the help!

I have realised that my last post was a bit ott and apologise.
I was unhappy with some of the posts putting folk down but realise that I was in turn, putting down folk who’s opions may differ from mine. In my defense, Its been a hard night in Glasgow but that’s no excuse..

Well, I used to look at mine in glossy mags, dreamt about it (albeit once only, and even then only really in passing) and the wife wasn’t too chuffed about it when it appeared in the garage.. Even if I did sell 2.5 bikes to put towards it’s purchase cost.
Fine, folk don’t think my bike is porn, but I like it, and it makes me happy. Sorry if I haven’t posted up pics of a bamboo 69’r with white rims and neon foam grips but I think niche rubbish like that is, well, rubbish.

Wear one most of the time. A nice wide ti one but take it off at work cos I do a lot of lifting and it cuts into a callus on my palm. I also had a guy one night who jumped off a small loading bay, caught his ring on the fence and de-gloved his finger right off from the main knuckle right up.. Sometimes end up in weird places so I take no chances!
My wife loves and wears both her rings, but she understands that I can’t always wear mine..

Avoid nights? Am seconded onto them just now but when I eventually get a shift chances are will be nights..
I sorta flip meals on nights, I might have a bowl of cereal in the morning when I get back, have dinner at 5 or whatever, then have to have a meal at work.. Usually midnight or after. The work I do can be quite physical, esp if its a busy night so I can’t get through a nightshift without eating a decent meal and maybe some fruit or a snack during the night.
The way I see it I’m sleeping most of the day as I would be normally at night so my calorie intake on nights is about the same, or even slightly less..

Status update: bed at 2am, son woke me at quarter to six. Been up since then, dropped wife off and done shopping for mum, short bike ride then bed. Tired now so doubt there’ll be any probs getting to sleep.
Plus I use a sleepmask which helps!!

Aye, well. Will prob be up about 7, drop the wife and wean off.. Might try getting a wee ride in, then sleep for a few before getting up about 5 for dinner.
First proper go at this method, will see how it goes..

ATg and supertramp, had a kinda weird code, and still do.
The same mental moral compass meant that it was ok to ignore her calls (from the mobile I gave her) over the next couple of weeks, but when she called from a friend of hers’ phone whose number I didn’t recognise, I then had to sit and listen to her verbally abuse me for an best part of 40 mins.
Tanned a bottle of vodka and some red wine that night, luckily my friends pulled me semi conscious from a hedge a few hours later. ****.
But hey, we were all young once!

Dumped an old gf at her 21st party.. Had been seeing each other about 8 months.. Was at her parents house about ten miles outside of Edinburgh, at three in the morning. Didn’t want to ruin the night for her, but had made up my mind it was over. I even bought and gave her a reasonably expensive mobile (student at the time), so when we went to bed and she obviously wanted another pressie I split up with her because on principle, I wouldn’t sleep with her.
Had to walk home to Tollcross, in the rain. At three in the morning. All my other friends were at a night out in Dundee.
It’s amazing how unpopular hitch hikers are around Edinburgh and it’s environs..
Stabbing tho? Really? I don’t want to want to know anything more!
