so when can we have an STW group burning of the TV license letters, and anything else they may stick through our letterboxes?

i’d file/sand down all the rust until its shiny and see how much metal was left. very easy to go over critical places like brake lugs/crown welds with a tig or mig if youre concerned
does it have the 27.0mm seat post?

    listen to the rain!

    dodge the midges

    try getting comfortable

that should take 12 hours at least

or get skymap app and learn to navigate by the stars

Am considering the same soon, rather than carry a tent up a mountain

    Good spot!

WE dont have roe deer around here

The Browning quality is much better than other cams I’ve tried WHEN they work.

I have 3 now that dont work properly, mostly battery related faults. If yours uses too many batteries, try lithium ones, theyre worth it

does seem a bit mental using courses where the chances of it being cancelled due to rain are so high

Thanks to language creep I’ve caught myself saying “going forward…” and I despise myself for it. Like, that’s how ****ing time works. Oh, a new project, sure, I’ll go and do it last April.

I despise you for it too

People that overtake you then slow down.
And cars that stop to let you cross a minor road on your bike/on foot, when they have right of way, and youre waiting for them to go away, so you can cross the road on your own.
People at a filling station who filled up, then leave their car in the way to go into the shop for half an hour to pay, deliberately, when theres a big queue of real people trying to get gas and get on their way

This is making me cross now

starting an epic days journey at 7.30am, someone is all ready, and insists on leaving at 0730 on the dot, when youll still be 5minutes, so you forget everything you really need,, and you know damn well that in an hour’s time they’lll be 10 minutes behind you, or having a breakdown and relying on you to have the tools you left behind to fix it

Just returned home to a red envelope on the mat, here we go again with the TV Licensing/Crapita pond life. Was promised a visit on a particular date a few weeks ago but they didn’t appear.

I regard this as threatening behaviour. Its not’innocent until proven guilty’. And im not telling them if i watch tv or not

strangly enough, all my previous cars without aircon, relied on the fan to keep them cool

    alric

    yes set to LO
ive disconnected some flaps now so’s to get the best through flow always
I cant believe I need the aircon to keep it below 26deg
I never had aircon (in my cars)before, it was never this bad

    alric

yes i get airflo, plenty, its just too warm

It’ll only every be able to pull in air at whatever temp it is outside

I was hoping the fan/ speed of the car would reduce the outside temperature, and so a flap must be blocking it

    alric

me too, but as i cant do that yet I need to use the fan side of the heater to try to get  cool air

I did several  in thailand, wouldve done more but it was always at the weekend when i wanted to go dirtbiking

Also did one in Borneo, it was a cycling first then running through the jungle. Really enjoyed it.

The thai crowd, half expats, would regularly go to other interhashes in malaya, indonesia etc

really depends what size zoom you want. 24mm is nice on the wide end, but not so many of those go up to 400/600mm. I’d look at panasonic and maybe fuji

my audi aircon has never worked, but the heaters not much good either.

One of the air flaps packed up, so couldnt get cool air in the car. Theres 5 of these motor/flaps, one is impossible to get at.  It wasnt that one though, so the glove box came out, and i took the motor off, and took it apart. You have to hold a plastic clip open with one hand, open the next clip with the other hand, while holding it and opening the next clip with another hand.

the gear was stuck but freed easily. The motor worked, the pot resistance was good, it was put back together and didnt work again

i stripped it right down, sprayed all the plastic gear with  silicon oil and reassembled it. The gear was sticking in one place, and i couldnt see why I triple checked everything, sprayed it some more and put it back together and back in the car and reset the values and tested it with the software.

Its still making some clicking noises, but the car is a lot cooler, and hopefully wont go wrong again, fingers crossed. If it does i shall disconnect it and keep the flap open

the amanitas are fairly easy to identify as a family, but since many of them can kill you, best to leave them unless you really know what youre looking at

diesel purge, motor oil saver, and oil smoke stop
oil saver “takes 300-500 miles to work”
Liqui Moly suggested to use Motor Clean also, but you need to change oil when you do that, and id only just put the oil saver in.So thats waiting for next oil change

    Update
There was not enough room to use the compression tester I got.
Anyway i tried the diesel purge, the youtube method.2nd time it worked,1st time I was not as prepared as i thought. (TIP- watch all the youtube videos on it you can, if it can go wrong, it will go wrong)
Fortunately, an old diesel mechanic just happened to be around, miles from anywhere, and he gave me a lift home and told me how to start the car again.
With VCDS the timing was altered slightly,to improve things
The emissions were still too high,so I got a couple more liqui moly products, and thats lowered the emissions a lot, so now its all good, and I can sell the other car, go on holiday, etc.
Thanks so much for all your help.

It takes 3 minutes to travel a mile at 20mph and 2 minutes at 30mph. So no significant difference at all.

so thats just a half hour extra to do 30 miles.
and 2nd gear at 20, 4th at 30 means twice as much fuel and emissions
Plus encouraging some people to do 20mph all the time.
And pothole damage will (possibly) be less, so less incentive for councils to look after the road, therefore they will get worse.
30/60mph was ok 50 years ago, so have we regressed since then?
Oh, the joys of riding a motorcycle at 20mph, in potholes! makes everyone want to get a range rover for the walk to school

What altitude do you start Kinabalu from and what is the ascent like?

the start is at 1866m,and its walking up most of the way,or easy scrambling, though ive nothing to compare it to
certainly less technical than striding edge helvellyn, which is about my limit at the moment, it looks like most of these peaks will remain out of reach for me

if you didnt say europe, Id say Mt Kinabalu (4095m)in borneo, however that doesnt require any gear at all really, and no altitude training
So why is it people have to prepare for 4000m altitude in Europe?

if you become attached to an idea, then follow that, instead of being aware of what’s around you, then you are neurotic.
Why would people support your neurosis, why encourage you to live in a dreamworld?
We’re all in this world together, we’re not really here to build an escape/dream world for every idea, surely there’s more to life than that

That’s not gonna make a difference now! The time for that was 950 years ago.

    really? I wasn there then!
William the Conkerer may have claimed england belonged to him, but he’s gone now. And who agreed with him anyway? Those that did probably did so on pain of death, or worse. do we stand for terrorism these days?

i liked White Coomb to grey mares tail, but if you wanted a big walk, you could continue to Hart Fell and/or the Devils Beeftub (or the other way round)
Theres some good ridge walks on the other side of the road too, up from capplegill, on the southern upland way, but i cant remember which are the best bits

Did seem like he got the short straw too often

I can totally understand why he’d want to be lone in his camper the week of the TT, physical support is great but I feel Id want to get the headspace if I was  to race like that

omeprazole every day for many years now, since i met a german doctor(ess) in Mandalay, who told me about it, and put me out of my misery, after all those years without it.

i have little sense (of smell) and consider its a serious problem, as i dont taste much either, and thereefore im continuously trying to find something tasty, but nothing seems to satisfy.
Beer seems to help with that, a bit, but has its own problems
I can look at myself like a junkie, for whom there is only one thing that is going to be enjoyed, but theres no way out, and for me food is not food if i dont enjoy it.
In a survival situation we can eat anything, but otherwise, how do you stop it when you didnt get any?

whY cant trans women do trans-women only events, that would seem a lot fairer.
then maybe they could allow ‘others’ to join in with them, and everyone would be happy.

We were in the Lake district, wettest place in england, a couple of weeks ago, and it poured down all night, but we stayed totally dry
It was a bit cramped, but my son is a big lad. You need to be fairly well acquainted to share it.

i have a bosch drill, but 18v Makita have much better prices for impact drivers and other tools to go with it. Everybody uses them
Also (avoid)the Aldi 20v stuff looks useful and cheap, but i dont believe theyre in the same league as bosch and makita

If turkey is anything like thailand, the rules will all change in 2 years, anything could happen
It used to be that you could bring a bike into the country, as a temporary import for 3months max iirc, then you could get a 3 month extension, after that it had to leave the country, but could come back in the same day.
If it overstayed, it would be fined, at £10/day, up to a maximmum of £200.
So for £200, you could keep it there indefinitely, without it getting confiscated
