A new SJ4000 is about £60 so within your budget. I’ve got one for pottering about and it’s great. It probably doesn’t compare to modern GoPro footage but then neither do my activities or skill levels.

Ask me again in May ’20 and hopefully I’ll be self unemployed. Like the OP I’m fed up of the stress and commute. Luckily we don’t have to sell up or move as we like it where we are currently and have the funds to stay put. I have plans for a small home business to keep me occupied and earn some money. This was all supposed to happen this year but I decided a few more months in a good job would mean more savings. Hopefully I’ll have the courage to pull the trigger next year and stick to my slightly revised plan.

Mrs S made spag bol last night and bought a bottle of red wine which she puts a 1/4 of into the pot

I was wondering about this as I usually add red wine to pasta sauce. I’ll continue and won’t count it as a failure.

I spilt the remainder into 3 containers and put them in the freezer for future cooking duties

    Great idea.

It’s one in one out with that family at the moment. I don’t think Rachel is over her ankle yet so that’s two out of three on the bench. Healing vibes to both of them.

I assumed that all lifts were run for a full rotation at the end of the day with no one allowed to get on at the bottom or the top to make sure there was no one left on it. It seems not by the stories and that article above.

When I did my wrist in (operation, pins etc.) I found that riding a downhill bike on downhill tracks was far less painful than a 5″ full suss XC bike. 8″ forks and rear suspension made everything a lot smoother and less bumpy on my wrist.

I’d keep which ever has the longest travel and smoothest forks.

I’ll give it a go apart from one evening as my birthday is in October. Does that count?

Did mine last month and like the others above it took about a week to 10 days.

Never mind the time scales, the important question is yet to be asked; are they blue?

    No.

You’ll be well and truly stuffed with a mechanical on the trails, in the middle of no-where.

In the middle of a bike park trail more like.

    Is it a big gamble?

In theory you can have unlimited losses as there is no limit to how high a stock can go and you’re loosing money the higher it rises. In reality you can probably close your position off by buying stock to cover your short before your losses get out of hand. Also your broker may close your position buy buying stock on your behalf to stop your losses at a certain point.

You can only short sell a stock on an uptick so you can’t guarantee to be able to jump on a plumeting stock and make a pile of cash. However you will have the money from the sale of the borrowed stock in your account.

I’m not sure what happens if the stock is suspended or delisted as you’ll never be able to buy it to repay the shares you’ve borrowed.

Other options (legal and mainstream as it’s business) Please.

Where are you finding Office 365 for business for £40? I can only find Office 365 Home/Personal for that price.

I saw “bumper crop” and got very excited. Not sure I’d class one £25 win as a bumper crop but I’m not complaining.

We have insurance for 2 spaniels that’s about 15/month each. Never claimed for the 7yr old but the 2yr old has been in twice

I’d say in this case it was worth the insurance rather than self insuring as the 7 year old has cost you £1,260 so far. This saving would probably be wiped out and then some for an overnight stay plus a few tests etc. from figures quoted in above posts. Saying that we self insure our cat. Perhaps I need to rethink our strategy.

I have an insulated outbuilding. I tried those ethernet over mains plug in things but found they were a bit flakey. We have a separate fuse box in the outbuilding so perhaps that didn’t help. In the end I ran a length of ethernet cable out there and plugged in a BT Whole Home WIFI unit. I’ve also got BT units around the house (no ethernet needed as they mesh) for full WIFI coverage.

Gosh. That’s a lot of horribleness to deal with all at the same time. Others will be along with actual advice so all I will add is good luck to you and your family in dealing with it all. Keep posting updates as it will help in getting it off your chest.

I was thinking of going for a spin around Gisburn Forest but depends on how tired I feel in the morning (I’m still recovering from a heart op).

I was there on Saturday. 2nd time in 2 years so I don’t know what’s normal service. The lift queues were long at times but I got in 7 runs which was as many as I wanted and could probably have got a further 2 or 3 if I was fitter and hadn’t needed so many breaks. I can see how it would be frustrating for a fitter/faster/better rider flying down some of the harder but shorter runs to be kept waiting in the queue as I guess normal service and a fit/fast rider could manage  12+ runs on a good day?

The parking is a real problem. One thing they could do is to mark out parking spaces. There were loads of vans and cars parked much further apart than they needed to be.

Have you tried Gildan Ultra? They are far heavier and a better quality than Gildan Heavyweight (which I don’t like). Gildan also do a Premium ringspun cotton which has a much softer feel than the Ultra and is a slimmer fit., finally they  have a newish line called Hammer which I think is more like their Ultra line but in a boxier cut.

As you know ‘not as described’ means he doesn’t have to pay return postage.

As he’s not received it yet I would get on the phone straight away to eBay so they can see what he’s doing before he receives it so you don’t get an automatic charge for his return postage when he does receive it. good luck.

I’ve been using Lightroom for many years and really like it. I now have an Adobe Creative Cloud account for photographers which is £10 per month and gives me Photoshop as well as Lightroom. It allows me to install copies on my home PC as well as my laptop.

Like everyone else on here do you not work in IT? If it’s really hot I usually find something to do in the server room to cool down.

I’ve got a Pyronix wireless system set up to cover our house and outbuildings which I installed myself. I can arm the outbuildings seperatly from the house or all together etc. and I can arm it from the main keypad, remote keypads, keyfobs or phone app. If the alarm goes off then it notifies my phone. It took me a few evenings with the user guide and Google to figure out the programming but it wasn’t too hard. I’m fairly certain you can get video doorbells for it as it will also work with CCTV, automatic gates etc. For me the benefit of a DIY install is that I know exactly how it works and can add to it very easily without having to wait for an alarm guy to come round. And of course I saved money.

We’ve found the best route is to use local house builders who also do general building work. They’re used to handling large or multiple jobs at once and have all the equipment and experience to hand. If they need an extra couple of guys for some heavy lifting one afternoon, they’ve got them. If they unexpectdly need a stump grinder, they’ve got one etc. They aren’t as cheap as using a one/two man band but we’ve always managed to get a fixed price and we can leave them to it.

I think that if you start an eBay return then the seller has to refund you and you’ll have to buy the correct item rather than just doing an exchange. When I’ve sold things on eBay I always ask to be contacted directly for an exchange rather than going through the eBay returns process.
