It was about 15 years ago but I loved it. As others have said avoid the resorts and get out and see the country and meet the people. A fascinating place. I’d love to go back.

We had an apartment out there until we sold it last year so have been out at all times of the year. April can be great if there is a late dump of snow or it can be warm and rainy. As you’ll be in the car you’ve got the option to drive up to Avoriaz each day which being much higher up will have more chance of better snow.

After an off which left me unable to drive for a few days due to torn muscles in my leg I switched to an automatic car. It’s been ideal when I’ve broken my wrists and torn ligaments in my ankle (not all at the same time) as I could drive as soon as the plaster was off without having to change gear with an injured wrist and didn’t have to press the clutch with an injured ankle.

I feel a Christmas holiday project coming on …

My family do stockings in the morning (as soon as you wake up) and presents in the afternoon after Christmas lunch (usually after the Queen). The SO and her family open everything in the morning.

Now we go with a vote so it depends on which side of the family has more members present or who is hosting Christmas Day.

Great. I’ve just ordered £12,500 worth of stuff.

Thanks for the replies about planting one after Christmas. It sounds like I’ll be lucky to have it survive but I’ll probably give it a go if I can find one grown in a pot.

Anyone had any luck buying a tree with roots and then planting it in the garden afterwards? Would the root ball be massive?

Whenever I try Feathers they slice me up whereas Derby’s I hardly ever nick myself.

I found the exact opposite although I only tried Derby’s once. Feathers are the only other blades I’ve used and have been using them for about 18 months with hardly any cuts. YMMV

We’ve just moved to Grimsargh. Not been out on the bikes yet other than a spin round the Guild Wheel loop. Bogged down with renovations at the moment so probably won’t bother much until the weather improves but would be interested in local loops.

Get him to send his licence off tomorrow morning for change of address and it should be back in time to send off with the police form. He’ll probably get 3 points. I think he was going too fast to be offered the speed awareness course.

Anyone had one installed in a house without a fireplace?

We’re just about to have this done. We’re having a double sided stove installed against an internal wall. We’ll knock through to the room behind which is open to the rest of the house so we’re hoping to warm most of the downstairs. The flue will go straight up through the ceiling on one side of the wall, through an upstairs fitted cupboard and then up and out through the roof.

I’ve had it on my 3gs for a couple of weeks and it’s fine. If anything the phone seems to work faster than it did under iOS5.

I get on really well with my parents, siblings, cousins and large extended family (still have 2 grandparents going strong at 97 and 98). I know that makes me one of the lucky ones.

Sad news. I’m sorry I never got the chance to meet him although I’ve followed his inspirational story on here. He was a truly great man. My condolences to his family and friends. RIP.

In reply to some of the posts above:

I can’t understand either why a motor home is much better than the train but that’s what the doctors have said.

Unfortunately no insurance as they said it was too expensive for them in their 70s with spending several months out of the country every year. They don’t mind paying a couple of grand to get them home as they’ve saved more than this over the years.

As for the loo, he has been given a tall cushion to put on the seat as even regular loos are too low to keep to the 90 degree flex rule. This is standard for people after a hip replacement.

I’ll make sure the van has two double seats around the table. That way he can recline while keeping his seat belt on rather than sitting up with my mom next to him.

I am hoping that nearer the time (the week after next) he’ll be so mobile that he’ll entertain the thought of a regular big car (if not the train). Perhaps a 7 seater people carrier type thing so he can have a whole bench to himself.

Unfortunately no time for taking a bike with me but there should be plenty of space for storage of booze on the way back.

    Thanks again for the replies.

    Thanks for all your replies.

His Italian surgeon and UK doctor have both advised not to fly and not to take the train. Both like the idea of a motor home so that’s what my father has fixed on.

I did wonder abut the size of the toilet. My father is over 6′. However he will be on crutches not a zimmer and it will be about 6 weeks after his operation by the time we go to collect him so I’m hoping he will be fairly mobile and we won’t have any problems.

As for the driving we’ll only be doing about 3 hours each most days. With lots of rest stops and a bit of sunshine (27 degrees where we’re heading) it’ll be fine.

Why on earth do you have 16 sheep?

Because we didn’t realise lambs come into season so soon or we’d have a lot less.

The reason we have sheep at all is that we wanted 2 or 3 to keep our fields looking neat and tidy. When we move we’re hoping to keep some if not all of them as they are very friendly and we’ve become very attached to them. Eating them is not an option 👿

We’ve just sold our house and unless we find something soon we’ll be renting for a while. What do you think our chances are with landlords as we’ve got a cat and 16 sheep? 🙂

I’ve been panic drinking tea all day at work as the milkman hasn’t been and we’re running very short of milk.

I filled up my car yesterday. Anyone want to swap a pint of milk for a pint of petrol?
