    Another +1 for joshvegas.

We’ve just got a new (to us) cat from our local rescue center. There are plenty of animals out there needing good homes.

Also do you really want something called a ‘Cockerpoo’? 😆

Damn I’ve just thrown away 6 black, 1 brown and 1 white fleece from our sheep. I haven’t been able to get anyone interested before. I’ll bookmark this thread for next year. We’re up near Preston.

I went through 2 ‘cheap’ strimmers before I bought a Honda 4 stroke which is a joy to use and hasn’t let me down in over 3 yeas. It was more than £100 though.

Could I also have a copy please Binners. We’re just in the process of designing our new kitchen. Thanks.

I booked a hire car through them in April this year (in Italy) and don’t remember any hidden charges or extras. It did seem cheaper than going direct.

And am sad because my pubes are gone.

I will complete a full update this weekend

This thread IS NOT useless without pics thanks!

I’ve ordered a similar Hikvision from Amazon but in bullet cam format. I’ll report back once I’ve set it up (this weekend hopefully if it arrives).

Those from AliExpress look good and I may get a pair myself once I’ve got my first one set up. Is there any additional tax or import duty to pay as they are quite a bit cheaper?

That’s brilliant. So I can leave buying an NVR to a later date if I feel I need one. In that case I think I’ll just order a HikVision camera or two and a PoE router to start with and give it a whirl.

Thanks again for all your help. It’s very much appreciated.

    Move?

It’s to keep an eye on our free range chickens and ducks not for security although I guess it would be a deterrent. We lost a chicken at the weekend to a predator and although cctv wouldn’t have stopped it happening I’d like to know what killed it and which direction it came from. I’d also like to run a camera to the back field to keep an eye on our sheep.

Thanks all for your info. I hadn’t thought about needing PoE routers 😳

I’ve decided to go with an 8 channel IP system. Probably an inexpensive NVR such as this 8CH FULL H.264 1080P Onvif NVR (I’ll check it’ll record 1080p on all channels at the same time) plus a HDD and PoE router which should do the job of recording 24/7 and spend the money on cameras such as the Hikvision mentioned above.

As for network bandwidth we only use wifi for our gadgets and the cctv would be wired but if necessary I guess I could use a VLAN enabled router to keep the traffic separate.

Thanks for the replies so far. I’ve done a bit more reading over lunch.

If my thinking is correct then the NVR route rather than DVR would be more flexible. I’d only have to connect the cameras back to the LAN and not back to the NVR which could make for easier cable routing, especially if I use gigabit switches to save running many cables between floors.

I guess picture quality from the cameras is similar for both recording systems?

No I don’t think it will. In fact I’m glad it’s already forgotten.

I get the same as spooky’s screenshot. I’m using Chrome on a Samsung s5 running lollypop.

Looks like I’ll have to put the duck house order on hold until next time!!

Sorry to hear that. I had 3 of my ducks on standby for a new home. Donald, Jemima and Daphne will be so dissapointed 😆

Well done for standing. Better luck next time.

Hi. I’m on the outskirts of Preston just off the M6 and have safe bike storage if you haven’t been sorted out yet.

Are you going this weekend or a weekend in May? If May then the festival is on so much more than usual to see and do.

Sync them with Google or similar service so if you loose your phone you still have access to your contacts.

Which channel is all this on? Hopefully something with a catchup service as I’d like to watch it too.

Alphabet, are your pizza oven specs online? Am looking at possibly building one this summer.

I’ve got various bookmarks on my laptop with diy build guides but haven’t decided on which to attempt.

I’ve been splitting some small logs for kindling with my cheap hatchet and will be splitting proper logs tomorrow. The SO’s Audi will be in the drive later when she gets in.

Just got to get round to building my pizza oven for more STW points 😆

I’ve had mine 3 to 4 months. No case or screen protector.

I’m not very rough with it although it has fallen to the floor a few times from the height of a table or kitchen worktop and is fine. There are a few very small scratches on the back but nothing on the front.

For something that’s in use throughout the day most days I would expect some wear and tear.

I have a similar problem most noticeable in ski boots but also with some regular shoes/boots. A foot bed which raises my arches and keeps my feet in the proper position fixed the problem for me.

Freesat runs from your Sky dish. Just buy a Freesat box and plug it in (it uses the same cables/connectors). Once you’ve bought the box there’s nothing to pay. Of course you won’t get Sky or premium channels so it depends if you need them.

We did the same as tinribz and I can’t say I’ve missed any of the Sky offerings. We also have Netflix and a good broadband connection so no problems with the free catch up services. Not sure what BT TV could offer that would make it worth while paying for over Freesat. However we don’t watch any sport but I can see that keen followers would want some premium sports channels.

I’ve had mine since Christmas and with only light use the time/date has gone wrong. It doesn’t matter if I set it manually or put it in auto mode by the next day it’s wrong again.

looking up data recovery services for the borked laptop drive.

I’ve used CBL Data Recovery a few times for work computers over the years. Nice people who will check your hard drive and let you know how much it will cost to recover your data and what they will recover. If you decide not to go ahead they just return your drive to you at no charge. At least that was the case last time I used them.

p.s. I’m not associated with them in any way. I’m just a happy customer.

I hope you and your family find the strength to get through this horrible situation. Good luck, my thoughts will be with you.

    How about £45 posted?

I didn’t want a monster phone that I couldn’t easily fit in my jeans pocket but wanted something bigger than the iPhone 4s it was replacing. Overall I’m very happy with it. Nice and fast, good camera, waterproof and long battery life (for a smartphone).
