Ah, shows how much I don't know about my own wheels!

They are tubeless, but I've been using them with "non-tubeless" tyres for the last 2.5 years cause they were actually really good tyres for all conditions… Better find out what I did with the valves!? (they are Mavics btw, so hopefully I won't be a victim of valve rage )

Thanks for the tips, I'll also check out justridingalong.co.uk!

    if not entirely fool-proof,

I'm very proud that despite being blonde, I did not poke around in the nest to encourage one of the beasties to come out, I just waited 😛

One will have bees in; one will have wasps in.

Actually, that's great advice – just went out there and waited, and a wasp came out, so now I know 😆

oh, how do I tell the difference between a bees nest and a wasps nest? 😳

🙂 Thanks for the suggestions so far!

I think I'd be in trouble if I accidently burned down the shed – although I guess I could empty it first just in case 😉

Just double checked and I guess the nest is actually not quite tennis ball sized yet, so maybe removing it like maxray would work? Although I read somewhere that they'd just come back and build another one in the same place?

Will also check out the wasp nest foam if I can find it somewhere…

Thank you both, I'll have a look at these ones – I quite like the idea of the wireless connection…

thanks, redthunder – what do you mean by 'use a proxy for the gmail ending'? not 100% sure what proxies are/do 😳

neverfastenuff's post reminded me of one time at CYB – someone was waiting to take pictures of his mates at the rocky bit just before where the final descent crosses the road to the car park; he didn't notice that his mates let me go first, so he took a picture of me instead 😛

Actually, reading this thread now I regret I didn't ask him for a copy, I don't have a lot of pictures of me riding…

Another time we were riding at Kirroughtree and an older couple asked whether they could take our picture on the bit where you go across the huge massive rocks (aaargh, forgot the name of that section) for a local photo competition – I was actually surprised they asked, I wouldn't have minded either if they'd just taken the picture.

thanks CFH, we also do what the Flashes do – record it an put it on in the background! Much better though when we don't know what happened at the end, already got really good at avoiding the radio and any news pages on the web in the afternoon 😉

Actually, I think there aren't that many adverts in the Eurosport live coverage? At least not on the final 25km or so? I prefer watching even just that final bit on the live recording rather than the summary programmes, ITV4 has ads every 3 minutes, VERY annoying – someone needs to invent an auto-ad-forward button for Sky+ 😆

midlifecrashes, interesting – on the news just now they did say “indeterminate”, you been in touch with the news editor ?

crankboy, thanks for your post, now I understand a bit more about that type of sentence!

ah, I see – just my interpretation that “without definite end” actually means “no end”, but really it means that the end is not clearly defined.

Thank you STW “interactive dictionary” 🙂

    how about lovely motorbikist James?

I do like the “natural no effort” approach like

stick it on a hanger and then put it up in the attic for 3 to 4 weeks – somewhere dry and cool where it can air.

, might actually try that with the Phantom when it gets too warm to wear it for riding!!

Also interesting about the Dylon stuff, thanks dave_rudabar, I’ll check some supermarkets (and the interweb for bulk purchases if it works) 😉

    juan,
sounds like your sense of smell only allows pleasant odours to “register”, lucky you 😛

    midnighthour,
that sounds great – I think I’ll try that on some of my old Helly Hansen ones. Not sure if the Gore top with “Windstopper” material will mind? Maybe I should really just try it and ask for a new one for my birthday if it goes wrong 😛

with all these tips I’ll be the nicest smelling mountain biker on the hills soon 😉

thanks for the Milton fluid suggestion, I’ll give it a go – at least I’ll smell the way my Camelbak tastes then 😀

    druidh,
soaking in bio also sounds good, might try that next…

    geoff,
I do dry them outside, unfortunately the sun doesn’t always co-operate 😉

    SFB,

if only it were that simple! (Simon drifts off into pervvy reverie)
    2nd merino baselayer (baaaaaaaaaaaaah!)

you including the sheep in your pervy reverie ?

    Neil,

there’s a solution in last months MBR, involves vinegar and something else. its in the readers section i think?

Interesting, I tried vinegar in the rinse cycle years ago but found it just made the clothes smell even worse (and the washing machine for the next 3 washes ) Maybe the “something else” is the key to using vinegar…

even if it smells clean when you put it on its starts to hum after an hour or so of even light excercise.

exactly, that’s what is so annoying 😐

matt, I agree, the Merino ones I’ve got are excellent, they never smell!!

Guess I’ll just have to live with the “man made” ones going smelly…

hmmm – not sure I want lots of women to throw themselves at me and take their clothes off when I ride past… on the other hand, any men riding with me might enjoy that, I see where you’re coming from 😆

Well, I guess first of all I’ll have to check my monitor settings – noticed before that print outs are darker than on screen, now I know why 😳

Can’t get to the NEC unfortunately, but I’ll check out all the places everyone mentioned here 😉

    thanks again everyone!

interesting comment beamers, hadn’t thought of that 😳 – does that kind of go for all of these photobook places though, printed pictures are darker than on screen ones?

Great, thanks for the suggestions! I’ll have a look at photobox (even if the interface isn’t as good any more, DezB?) and will also check out the “luxury” bob books 😉

NB I don’t mind spending £ on decent kit, if I’ll benefit from it. But if what I have will do for an Intermediate skier with poor technique, then I’m happy.

I plan to get some lessons when I’m in Zermatt anyway..

I think if you want to improve your “poor technique” you might want to consider hiring/demo-ing some alpine boots – especially on hard pistes they’ll give you more support 🙂 When you’re a ski god at the end of the week switch to the touring boots 😀

    alp_girl

main difference between “regular” and touring ski boots is that the touring boots are often lighter and easier to walk in – when you skied before, did you use some hire boots then instead of these?

Have you worn these Scarpas for any length of time? If they fit well, you should be okay for a weeks’ skiing.

btw, the Scarpa Cyber are not suitable for telemark bindings, not sure what the “telemark” comment in your manual is about…

woohoo, Juan, merci 😉 desolee though, I am not single – must be because I am indeed hot, eh :P? ***edit: this is meant to be the tounge-in-cheek smilie***

GreenRoom, thanks, that’s great advice, can’t say I’m overly keen on uber technical rocky boggy walkers’ paths 🙂 especially if I have to ride up a forest road and then end up walking downhill cause it’s too tricky – don’t want to have to take body armour with me on a cross country ride…

    alp_girl
    Free Member

GreenRoom, hmmm, not sure there’s a name for it – cross country type riding with fun descents, don’t mind rock steps etc. but not “professional” downhill type stuff…

PS thanks for all the posts so far!!!

I’d go for foods with lots of carbs and not a lot of fat – fat slows the absorption of carbs. Also, remember that your body can only cope with ca. your body weight in grams of carbs per hour, so totally stuffing your face every hour is probably a bit counterproductive 😆

ah, just checked Stonehenge cycles, excellent, I can indeed get one of each flavour (apart from liquorice, yuck, just the thought…)!!

only problem now is delivery is free for orders over £25, biiig temptation to add more stuff to get free delivery 😛

PeterPoddy, you mean Mule’s website? I thought they only did full boxes, quite like the idea of tasting the different ones first and then buying a box of my favourites 🙂

CaptainFlashheart, thanks for the tip, I’ll try my luck 😆
