I have a small issue with that article being mainly about forensic/MFM data retrieval techniques. This method doesn’t work with the high density disks we see nowadays and certainly not SSD technology. I mean who actually removes the platter from the drive to do this??? (brings up the pertinent point of the drive cylinder/head alignment and the errors these cause but you know that as you read it)

Anyway, my real life data retrieval experiences show this article to be not entirely true. Make of that what you will but I’d choose to believe my own findings.

It doesn’t matter, unless your format the drive and have multiple passes writing 0’s then data can be retrieved.

When I said quick erase and reinstall (I meant in the process of it eg: it doesn’t take long to do that, a full DBAN wipe on mechanical HDD will take a while)

Retro, a quick erase and reinstall will not prevent data retrieval. It’ll make it harder but not impossible compared to DBAN.

I’ve seen these, no idea if they require external PSU for IDE drives.

Midlands based, no parking issues in our street but I rent a good size garage (14m x 3.5m)and off road parking for £20 a week.

No contract, gentlemans agreement for damage and I often help when there are jobs need doing. It works very well for me as even at a grand a year, I couldn’t afford to move to a house with a garage this size.

Ive used a WP rear on my 08 R6 for 4 years, that man wields a godly touch IMO when it comes to WP kit.

    A few things on OC’ing:

What voltage is the CPU at?
What memory profile is set? (XMP best)
What temp does the CPU reach?
What CPU cooler? (if std then there is your issue)
Also what PSU and motherboard do you have?

God I could go on, must remember this is not a PC forum

Oh and edit from previous post, CPU you should get is 3770k as 4xxx is not compatible

    Oh and 4.0ghz overclock?

Either you’ve been really unfortunate with silicon lottery or you are not doing it right. (possibly CPU cooler not up to the job)

What makes you say 4.0Ghz is the highest it will run?

The difference in performance you would get from upgrading your CPU/motherboard/memory wouldn’t justify the cost to me over your current platform. 10-15% at best but in real world usage you’d barely notice a change.

Buy a 2nd hand i7 CPU and another 8Gb of RAM for your current platform and if feeling flush get a 1080 GTX. That’s 3/4 years worth of 4k@60FPS gaming for not much more than a whole platform upgrade that keeps the 980ti.

    almightydutch

What monitor do you have? 1080 GTX is aimed at 4k 60fps or 144hz@1440p

Id say get a 4770/4790k CPU and 16gb of ram. The 980ti is still a very good performer. i5’s are seeing noticeable FPS drop over i7’s on the newer games so this is why the 3770

    What games do you play?

BTW – I have 2600k and 780 GTX and play at 1440p and have no issues playing anything, BF1 for example runs 60fps but I’m at high graphics not ultra.

Many ways to skin the cat Cougar, as I said used for years with no issue but plenty out there that do the same job just as well.

I do use Gparted for flash drives in my dumb devices (telecoms kit) though as Windows in general doesn’t like multi partition flash drives.

Of course it wont be the A drive Cougar but you know this.

If you don’t want a boot disc, I’ve used Mini-tool partition wizard for years and you can just clone the drive and expand the partition to fill the disc.

I’d say its as easy to use as Gparted (which is great) but from inside your Windows environment

My Manta Ray was great for a couple days (back in ’94) until the plastic bearings in the drivetrain went to shit. My dad wouldn’t buy me the metal bearing hop up parts so my poor old Manta Ray was always the slowest out of my mates cars.
Most of which had better motors, different gearings and metal bearings. IMO these made the biggest difference in not only speed but runtime and noise aswell. The gearboxes on Tamiya have always been noisy but when ‘ballraced’ they were much better.

A lot of love for Mk1 Golf’s, here is my old one. Built up almost 20 years ago to exactly what I wanted.

It was my dream car and everything done to exactly my way of thinking. Single wiper, relocated mirrors, flush rear end with Zender 3 piece spoiler. It had a perfect grey and black interior and tinted glass all round. Best of all, 2ltr 16v engine and cable change box. Wheels have changed as I had G60 BBS wheels but not far off.
Let it go at the time for a Mk3 VR6 (which was faster and sounded better) but have missed it since the day it went.

Had the chance to buy it back last year as it came up for sale on Ebay. Now I love this car, it was my everything for 18 months when I was 19/20.

Sadly the owners since have destroyed it. Turned into a track car so the interior was stripped, roll cage installed, big bucket seats and cut out parts of the dash meant that to restore it back to its former glory would have meant too much. I was gutted!!

    Still my fave car ever

This might be my imagination, but I’m sure the concrete atmosphere does “something” to some soft metals (e.g. zips on things like tennis racket covers etc etc) to corrode them. Is that just me?

Err, isn’t that called damp? AFAIK its not caused by a ‘concrete atmosphere’

On the possibility she has done this, does she have anything to show for it?

I would expect something along the lines of a new phone, shoes, handbag, clothes and I’d also expect said item(s) to be of a higher value than usual.

I don’t want to pry into your finances but do you feel like her peers have access to more ‘cash’ then her? This can be such a cruel situation at her age as she may feel compelled to keep up with current trends etc and if she isn’t as flush as her friends then maybe its a way of obtaining such.(This is mainly on the earings, but even clothes not worn by her before can be seen as a new addition and her peers may ask about it, where she got it from etc and suddenly she fits in again, or at least feels like she does)

I feel for you and I wish there was a quick and simple solution. Best of luck in whatever direction you choose to deal with this.

Having started doing this over the past couple of years (not having done it since I was young and things haven’t changed much) our local route has people displaying lanterns etc so we knock them.

The kids just scream at them ‘Trick or Treat’ and we get handed a bowl of goodies….occasionally a pensioner puts up a display by mistake and they are half way to a coronary after opening the door.

All good fun and the neighbours go full hammer, dressed up including the parents but we have a good hour out with the kids all behaving nicely and having fun. Which lets face it, is what its all about. Now for some SUGAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

For those who care (which isnt many i know)
    I am running this on i7 2600k with 16Gb ram and a GTX 780.
It runs on high settings (not ultra) on my 1440p between 40-50 fps. Which I dont consider bad performance and it still looks amazing. OK not quite as shiny and nice as the video shows but its still god damn good.
Long time fan of BF series and without a shadow, this is the best yet.

    Oh, and,
Unless it’s changed with Windows 10 (I haven’t particularly noticed either way), Windows Updates are published monthly on the second Tuesday of the month

Cant say I’ve noticed but I like Update Tuesday as it allows time to prep for the changes coming. Saying that I have seen what I believe to be random updates from M/Soft recently which can cause issues.
The anniversary update was exactly this. I really didn’t expect Sage to stop working on the machines I support and had a few issues sorting those out, more of a pain on the VM’s of MAC users.

As someone whos played club hockey for 25+ years its always nice to see some respect for hockey. What was always known as a ‘girls game’ by the vast majority as a kid its great to see the reaction of people who watch or play the game for the first time.

Seen all kinds of injuries over the years. Its a brutal sport and mainly due to the ball and the speed it can be played.
Our captain was #1 on penalty corners, over the years he’s managed: Multiple broken fingers, insane bruises on all parts of his body, he’s lost his right thumb 3 times (each time the stump gets smaller), broken humerous, broken arm. He is semi mechanical though as I’ve never seen anyone take hits like him.

The best, or worst time was another penalty corner, this time the attacker hit the ball after it was controlled. Superb strike to be fair by the player but this hit our captain just under his kneecap with a massive thud….which was fine until he went to take another step. That one managed to snap his tibia clean through. He didn’t play on this time.

I love the way the rules change, it shows the FIH are trying to create a better game for all. The multiple card system works so well its always amazed me that Wendyball doesn’t bring this in. Same with how the umpire can move the ball up the pitch if you give him some verbal (or get sent off as I often did).

Blur LT2 rider here, best mate has a 26″ Nomad. After riding both many times I can undoubtably say yes you will notice.
How much that bothers you is your call, I do prefer the less travel on the Blur rear end as I run 160mm Pikes upfront for 75% of my riding. Once pointed downhill you can feel the difference though. The Nomad handles it much easier. Floats over the bigger stuff that the Blur kicks and bucks but lets face it there isn’t THAT much between them.

DONT put 32’s on it though. I had world cup Rev’s for a while on my Blur and the burlier Lyriks work so much better on there, giving extra confidence to just point and shoot. They take most stuff in their stride

I feel you pain Donks, my 6yo cant be bothered and this isn’t without me trying, although Ive always gone with softly softly approach as he seems to have his mothers stubbornness. He’s had a plethora of bikes over the years from balance bikes to proper pedal bikes (even resorted to stabilisers now, which still isn’t working as he cant be bothered to pedal so results in him just sitting on the bike)

His anxiety over riding a bike stems from a few years ago on his balance bike when my mates little girl was teaching him (shes only a year older but rides all day long if she could) and let go of him causing him to fall due to lack of speed. This really got to him and that’s all he thinks about while being on two wheels now. To the extent it stopped him using his two wheeled scooter.

I wont give up, he needs to learn to ride as its a right of passage IMO for kids. First part of freedom so to speak as they can razz around the street without too much care. We have 4/5 other kids in the street who play on their bikes and he always watches them as if he wants to join in, but even trying some seat time at the ‘right now he’s interested moments’ doesnt seem to make a difference.

    It will hurt, lots.

You are not fit!! Nowhere near!!!

Buy a smoker and learn to ride properly.

My 125 top end went, took the barrel too. It cost roughly 350 for parts but majority of that was a replate down at Langcourts.

I wouldn’t touch a 4 banger unless you know the history, if you don’t I’d budget for a rebuild.

4 banger rule, when they go bang…its a grand!!

Yes we do, in fact our house, the next door neighbours and the family across the road all go out together.

Great laugh and most importantly the kids absolutely love it. Mini Dutch has been changing his mind on what outfit for weeks!!

Etiquette was easier before the kids grew up slightly and now want to knock EVERY door! Usually its the decorated ones.

My cousin did that driving into the local tip.

Wrecked his works Mondeo roof, they wrote it off. Obliterated his Scott Carbon MTB, I think he salvaged brakes, drivetrain and saddle….the frame, wheels and forks didn’t make it.

Reminded me of the Mk1 in Ian Kuah’s book.
    http://www.retrorims.co.uk/vw-blog/vw-engine-tuning

Great article in that link. Its not one Ive seen before but the original 16s Golf was a thing of beauty.

A mate had a BRM Mk1, fastest revving 8v I’ve ever seen. Although that ate the crank when playing about in the snow one day.
