Due to this being STW and I’ve rang my friend.
She went with her son to Spesh at Fort Dunlop. Only fault she knew of was a slightly (yes slightly it still revolved ok) buckled rear wheel, deviation of wheel around an inch. Hence rubbing the chainstay.
She doesn’t know what type of member of staff. She went up to the counter with the whole bike and showed the man the problem. She asked how much to repair the fault. Blokey walked off with bike into the back and 5 mins came back with bike and said yes that will be £200 and we have to change both wheels. She didn’t bother asking why it was so much, said no thanks and walked off huffing and puffing about the price. Then I had the call.
So yes, quite rightly stated its mis-interpretation as she should have asked more questions. Even so, how can a slightly buckled rear wheel amount to needing both wheels changed for £200.
P.S. The LBS used were asked if the wheel was ok to repair and apparently they laughed at her as it was a minor buckle. So yes they are confident the repair is good enough and will last.
I stand by my brand bashing though regardless. Duty of care from brand should mean no matter what shop you go into franchise or not that you get the exact same level of service from all.
