I think there are 2 issues here:

1, Have they made the right decision?
    2, Have they followed process

point no1 is the one which gets emotions involved and is really difficult to deal with as a result. You (she) have mu sympathies

Point number 2 is the one that gives you the best chance of winning any disagreement.
They need to follow through on the process they have outlined, any variation would look really bad for them………so the point you made about the process announcing 2 years appraisals, then using 3 is quite important – are there other examples where the actual process varied from the announced process?

(IANAL but have managed a few people and had a couple of redundancy situations to deal with)

    Best of Luck!

    Really helpful there guys!

Surprisingly all that roofing is not atop a bicycle mikekay!
Waderider -I did have the roof done properly – it was all taken off and underlay added before re-laying.

Globalti- it is a bit confusing there are external valleys on the roof – all lead lined. In addition there is an internal trough to take water from 2 pitches under another perpendicular pitch which has been relined with roofing felt – as it is “inside” I guess it should not weather much – but there are a couple of sites where it is leaking.

Not quite on brief but I have stayed at a refuge on Mulhacen, in Spain, North of Malaga.

Completely bikeable on the way up to the refuge @3000m. Sleep, then push up the last 500m. Really excellent trails on the way down (we had 2k of descending to do back to the hotel!)

Timing is everything in terms of avoiding snow etc

    Agu stuff from Planet X

WInter bib tights – lovely warm and comfortable
Agu shell top – perfect for those cold days when rain is not likely (ie never in the UK!)
Agu condom(snigger) rain shell thingy – good but a little boil in the bag – not much breathing going on!

Some stuff you buy is cheap – feels cheap etc

This Agu stuff seems to have a quality that may actually justify the RRP numbers!

Just in case this helps anyone else – I know there are a few Voodoo Bizango owners around

I finally sorted this, by getting a hanger from the link Parkesie had above:

    http://www.mountainbikecomponents.co.uk/hanger-327a

They were £28 – fitted it at the weekend and seems fine.

Halfords wanted £30 and a week to deliver – I never found anyone cheaper despite looking for a while (£30 seems quite expensive for a bit of metal!)

If you want a 1 series, then get one!

    https://www.leaseyournextcar.com/bmw/1-series-hatchback-lease

These guys (amongst others) do some very cheap leasing deals – the right side of £300 as you have requested.

I would try a couple of other cars too to make sure that the 1 series is indeed the 1!

(also if you are open minded about what you get there are some real cheap lease deals to be had golf R for example! – less than £300)

Try the pistonheads web site and search best leasing deals – there are a few companies who consistently have really good deals

It seems that as a customer you would expect that lease companies would let the current user have a good price on a car as it would reduce the effort for the leasing company – pick up – valet and drop off at the auction etc.

However I think they have cottoned on to the fact that users know the history of a car so are keen to buy – so they give an inflated price in the hope that some people bite.

There is another way – find out which auction the car is likely to appear at and bid on it there – only you really know the history and you can easily work out your max bid based on the fees and Parkers / webuyanycar etc prices.

The Aldi seal skin copies are good, I have a couple of pairs.

Worth putting your longs over the top to stop water running down into them – although if it does it gets warmed up after a while!

    It really is very easy.

    Possible issues:

1, An older installation may have hot and cold water inputs – most newer machines just use the cold one. The ends of the water pipes should have taps (coloured red or blue) – just leave the hot switched off.

2, The exit pipe may be to short

That’s about it – don’t forget to tighten up the inputs reasonably tight as a slow leak might cause problems with the floor/ cabinets

Seems most have nailed it above!

North is better (really beautiful) than the flat south.

Malcesine is a really good place to stay, approx. half way up on the rhs of the river – boat across to Limone or up – riva / down to the south of the Lake.

Well worth getting a day on the bike if you can – there is a hire shop at the bottom of the cable car up Mr Baldo in Malcesine where you can hire something to take up in the cable car – ride the 601 towards the north of the lake and then head back home! – beware switched brake levers!

I’ve stayed at a great almost all inclusive place in Malcesine – Majestic Palace – great family rooms at the back of the property – lots of swimming pools and really great food etc – could be the one Shooterman has used?

There is one on the site Parksie mentioned but quite expensive at £28 for a small bit of metal

I cannot find one on the superstar site that is the same shape

The above is what they look like

I had one a while ago and would agree – be prepared to walk away though if something big an important goes wrong

We had the fuel pump issue – importer sorted it for £80 IIRK – local diesel specialists were completely confused by the problem – stalling after running a while

    It is a complicated issue!

I don’t profess to be a professor of it but there does seem to be some themes coming out of the stuff I have read:

Management of watercourses – seems to have reduced because of legislation as to whose responsibility it is

Building on flood plains / inadvertently diverting watercourse with buildings

I read an article last week that said the mills upstream used to attenuate the flow and allow for more storage capacity in Yorkshire – as they ponds are falling into disrepair this effect is much reduced

I don’t think there will be a silver bullet- probable all of the comments above need to be considered and a complex plan incorporating many strategies put into place.

The other thing that springs to mind is how far is it reasonable to go with the measures? We have never experienced the level of rainfall that we have had last month or so in Yorkshire – should this be the level of rainfall planned (and costed) for?

I am not an engineer etc………….

I got one of the ones that Stoner links to, albeit from a different seller

I have not been blown away by its effectiveness so far!

People seem to be very much in favour of them in general- am I expecting too much?

When you put you hand near it, there is little perceptible draught, should there be (it goes round very quickly!)

I had a problem with mine a while ago- not switching off, but losing parts of rides and other random stuff

My issue was the number of rides on the memory – deleted most of them off and the unit is fine now – worth considering?

I started a similar thread this time last year.

The most difficult part is not sinking to the lowest common denominator. As a parent you dont want to exclude your child from activities (s)he enjoys with friends, but the age rating of some of the games compared to their age is worrying.

I’ve ended up allowing games for my son (14) that I would have liked to withhold for another couple of years.

One of the problems here is that I play games so know what is in them, many parents are clueless!

Dave Kaye is very good, in Halifax – cyclefast is his website

They tend to run all the time.

In the spring and summer months, much of the time there will be a net input of heat as the sun warms up the air in the roof space and then it gets blown into the house.

In terms of cost the non heat version is supposed to be a penny a day, prob a bit more for the heat version.

You can get a thermostat thingy to measure the air temp difference and get it to blow faster when there is a net gain of energy into the house and back off when the air in the loft is colder than the house.

Ive had to do the other battery thing a couple of times when the charge is so low that it wont even do the relay for the boot!

If you leave a charger on the special terminal thingy in the fuse box area it can charge the battery enough to pop the bonnet.

Porsches can kill batteries very quickly – mine can flatten one in 2 weeks – you could spend time and money investigating but its a case of “they all do that sir!”

If you have access to a garage with power there are a range of battery conditioners / chargers you can fit to keep it topped up

If no power and kept outside there are some solar panel equipped chargers which might be worth a punt.

Try charging with 2 chargers (at the same time) if it is dead, that sometimes works with mine!

In the STW tradition of suggesting only what you do I can add the following:

Birkenshaw – lived there for 10 years – some great riding in Tong which is a short warm up spin away. One of the best things about living here is that you never have to go on the M62 between j26 and j27!

Hipperholme – now live here (14years) some really good riding in Calderdale, some local but you can use the canal to get to Sowerby and Hebden for much more cycling. Good schools etc.

The roads can be a bit tiresome, not going at peak times is a great option if you can manage your meetings etc.

Only you can decide on your balance between journey times and house prices, if somewhere is cheap / expensive there is a reason!

    Hi Rich

I had a very old Esse dragon in my property, ended up replacing it with a hunter from a local company in Hebden bridge.

The hunter is great – I would also recommend the company who supplied it – many years of experience and good prices too.

I have been with fd since around 1991 and found them to be consistently good.

I had some success with all 3 services by suggesting I was concerned about the route my water / gas and electricity took, being too near the surface.

I basically said I was worried about cutting through them with my spade.

Had all 3 moved free (would have cost over 2k otherwise!)

At the time a friend suggested that the guideline was a spade and a half depth (probably the 375mm).

    Good luck!

Not sure if it is an option for you, but they have just launched a new version of the L200 with improved fuel consumption / turning circle / acceleration etc (all the stuff they say is rubbish on the old one)

If you leased from one of the specialists, you might approach the monthly cost of buying an older one?

FWIW I would probably go for the Navara – seems to be the markets favourite – there are horror stories though!

I have suffered on an off for years too.

    Cherries have some good evidence.
    Hydration is very important

There is some stuff on the web that suggests taking sodium bicarbonate helps – neutralises the acidic state – not one to follow if you have high blood pressure, but it does seem to work

Allopurinol during an acute attack makes things worse – take it after the flare to reduce further issues

Finally I found dropping some weight helps – I am not taking tablets at the moment but 1/2 stone lighter seems to help!
