I think this falls into the “they all do that Sir!” category!

Plates of iron bolted together are going to move slightly as the expand and contract, making the noise you describe. I don’t think there is much you can do except get it up to temp quickly and keep it there.

It does beg the question why were you recording yourself? Should I keep an eye out on BGT or X factor? :)

Update for those who are interested.

I got one last week and have had a couple of local jaunts on it.

Tyre pressure – not managed to fine tune this – they put far too much in at the shop – I am letting air out and using the very scientific thumb test to see what pressure there is left!

Its not as heavy as I was expecting! – will be going tubeless in the near future – the shop tried with stans valves and had problems so I have bought the WTB ones to have a go.

Its pretty good downhill – had a couple of good downhills on it and was close to times with my old orange 5!

Happy so far, might experiment with wider bars and shorter stem as mentioned above – a dropper might be good too!

There was a version made out of a metallic bin type incinerator on the Jamie and Jimmy food program a while ago

I bet a google would find the instructions and method!

I am interested in this too!

I moved away from this as an idea for my Cycle to work scheme bike, due to the Bike radar review.

Then a mate turned up on a Trek Stache 5 yesterday and having had a go on it I like the plus idea more again.

Any of the collective had experience of the COoker 4 and the Stache 5 as I am keen to make a decision and get one ordered – I think they weigh about the same – my only concerns would be about the gearing – are they low enough?

    Molgrips tells the truth!

I ordered some parts to service a van I bought recently and it was cheaper to get them delivered, than pick them up at the shop due to being able to go through Quidco for a delivery!

They were very quick at delivering!

    Interesting idea Northwind

I could buy some new lighter wheels and a better fork!

Thanks for all the very practical CX ideas, but as most of you suspect this is a cheap way to get a bike (although I will ensure I cycle to work on it in the next year and possibly do a work related charity event on it too!)

I thought about wearing a Breaking Bad type orange boiler suit over my shirt and tie!

I think another issue is that the scenic route from Halifax to Heathrow (where my head office is) is likely to take quite some time!

I already have an Arkose 3 for road / light off roading and am too big for the Marin (although I do have a soft spot for Marins from the 80’s)

I don’t know much of the detail about this, but the figures seem to suggest that a cycleway is cheaper than filling it in?

Seems to be a no brainer – but then unless you are close you wont know about the drainage etc alluded to above

I don’t understand how it could be cheaper to make something of it than cap off (or whatever the alternative plan is?)

I am using a chain tool from a TopPeak Alien multi tool – I did not know that there were different ones (although it makes sense now I think about it!)

I have been re-using the pins from the chain to fix – is this not recommended?

Will be getting some more quick links – anyone got a good supplier?

There are some very cheap leasing deals, the OP’s question is a little vague to say the least!

Check out pistonheads.com best leasing deals and see if anything is good for you there

Some of the special offers are crazy in that the payments would not even cover the depreciation for the car over the period of the agreement.

HAving a PCP as suggested above which is longer than the intended period is also a useful way of reducing payments

The lease market seems to be geared to 2 year deals so much that they can be cheaper than 3 and 4 year deals (which seems crazy!)

OP – I hope you get a great one and really enjoy it.

Lots of hand wringing on this forum!

I did a similar thing a few years ago – always wanted a Porsche – really enjoying having it…..but they do cost if they go wrong.

Security – well worth thinking about from the above replies. Tracker?

Costs – buy the best you can and have a war chest for any problems (not sure if warranties are worth having, they have an annoying habit of not covering stuff that goes wrong).

Driving – if my first experience is anything to go by, you end up accelerating too hard, then immediately have to scrub off extra speed – takes a while to get used to the power!

Overall don’t listen to the knockers – if that’s what you want go and get it & enjoy it!

I have Hunter stove and like it – quite good value for money and simple lines.

There seems to be a consensus that stoves are best run at a reasonable rate to avoid blackening the glass and partial burn substances building up in the flue.

Hope you enjoy it whatever you get!

You would be welcome to meet with a group @ Copley @7 on a Tuesday evening for some Halifax / Sowerby / Hebden fun – usually around 20 or so miles and a pub visit thrown in.

Some faster lads but they are kind and wait for us fatter ones! :)

I have a 320d Msport from 2012 and have averaged about 50mpg over the last few years.

I have been very happy with that, the newer ones are better I think – seems to me to be a good combination of “go” if you want and economy too!

I had all 4 wheels on a car done by Top Coat who now work from an workshop as you go down into Halifax from Leeds road.

They did a great job – re powder coating.

A guy I know locally moved to a specialist wheel company in Bradford – I think they are called something unimaginative

There are different weights and volumes available, the ones I bought last year were these:

    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Approx-900kg-Bag-Ecofire-Hardwood-Heatlogs-Stove-Woodburner-Firepit-/272389093796?hash=item3f6ba7b9a4

Will be buying some more soon!

(I buy some smaller bags to keep them in as if the storage is not completely dry they can absorb moisture from the air – another ebay seller had some overstock 25Kg sand bags from B&Q)

    Hi Bear,

I know of an alternative (supplementary) wood source that might be helpful here.

There is an ebay seller who does 900kg of hardwood briquettes for around £130-160 delivered. The good thing about this is that they have approx 6% water content max. They are not a pretty as real logs, but the amount of heat they produce is quite amazing in comparison with logs.

It can be good to mix up these with real logs to extend the refill time.

If you would like the sellers details – let me know they deliver free and are quite reliable (I have bought for the last 3 years and had a couple of friends do the same)

    Cheers
    Alastair

I bought a Bio Lite stove a few years ago and find it perfect for this sort of thing.

THey are not cheap, but if you get the additional grill, they make a quick and easy barbecue – very little smoke as the fuel has air blown on it by the fan.

Also has the benefit / novelty of being able to charge a mobile phone!

I have used this on the beach and cooked allsorts of meat and fish on it – it has quite a high heat output so would boil a kettle quickly – not tried this yet!

I remember an Evo test they did a while ago on different cars.

If I remember rightly it only made a difference on turbo cars (they could sense the fuel and adapt)

Not sure if they did any diesels, but perhaps the presence of a turbo on nearly all diesels means it is worth a go?

Its a difficult situation that only you can work out really.

One thing to consider is that when family are taken, it can be more difficult for those left if there is unfinished business.

My father died when I was in my 20’s it probably affected my younger sister most, because she felt there was bad blood between them.

I guess you have a chance now to engage at whatever level you feel comfortable – I would urge you to take the chance!

    Hi Chester!
I might be wrong but the solar gain thing does affect the whole house / roofspace, but the PIV system help move the warm air into the house which makes more of it, rather than having a hot roofspace and a relatively cold house space.

Not studied it in any depth, but seems like a good idea and the air blown in from the ceiling on a warm morning is significantly warmer than the air in the house

I would second the positive input ventilation mentioned as part of the solution.

I thought it might be snake oil based, but a friend of mine has put a few in his rented houses with such good results he has put one in his own house.

In terms of heat loss as queried above my understanding is that there can be a heat gain for Spring / summer as the air in the roof space often heats up as a result of black roofing / slates etc. then this heat is blown into the house.

This effect can be optimised by the additoin of a control box that has a low setting for moisture prevention, but turns up the fan when the air in the roof space is 1 degree warmer than the rest of the house.

The only downside I have seen personally is that in colder weather there is a noticeable coldness to the air being circulated.

They are an easy DIY fit and can be purchased for around £300

    >100 roles going is 90 days consultation, less roles means shorter process.

They have to listen to any suggestions you might have to reduce the number of roles – but don’t have to put them in place

The process is really important for them to follow as this is what they may fall down on (if you are looking to fight!) – the results of who goes / stays is almost secondary to the process – they will be looking to keep those they want and lose the others!

At the end of the consultation you should have a meeting if selected for redundancy and the notice period would be after the end of the consultancy.

Its a rubbish situation to be in – see if you can get another offer so that you are in a position of strength!

    Best of luck!

There are lot of honest ebayers out there, but you are right to be careful and plan for the odd one who is not.

1, If posting make sure it is trackable if of any value. If you send by royal mail parcels etc and there is no tracking you cannot really prove that you sent it (proof of postage helps). Ebay will usually find against you if there is a problem – got lost in the post

2, If you allow local collection, make sure you get a signature or picture of the person picking it up. Again you have no proof of postage if not so you would struggle to prove they had picked it up.

    Hope this helps!

I bought a lightley used Voodoo Bizango a couple of years back for £300 – it has been great – only the headset has needed replacement so far.

If you look for those bought, but not used stuff there seems to be a lot of it about!

Also bought a 4 year old cube for my daughter last week that still had the pimples on the tyres! – £150

I guess there are different types of Bluetooth speaker – the battery powered / mobile or the fixed, bigger sound kit

I have the following and would say they are worth considering

X-mini – these rechargeable little things are fantastic for the size, can be daisy chained but are not going to fill the room!

Aether Cone – the next size up in all respects – good sound (bass not the best but more than adequate for the size) lasts around 8 hours on charge – great for moving around the house or outside – I did a recent PSA on these at £50 – they were originally £300

Zepplin Air – this is my favourite – mains only but has a good level of base and can be connected through the wifi or a jack to jack plug / ipod interface.

    Hope this help!

I am sure that there are more products and opinions out there!
