I could go down deeper – looking for a balance between cost of doing the job and efficiency of the finished work

Would 8 to 12 inches with 6 inch of insulation be good?

I am easy on the prep – what would you recommend?

I know the top layer needs to be tiles – the rest is up for decision

Do you think the screed / insulation method is better?

Before assuming its the turbo (it could be!) – see if there are any breathers that are blocked. I had this on an X5 and feared the worst – turned out to be an easy and cheap fix – £100 for the breather / diagnosis and fitting!

Pipes etc can also be wrong / split / blocked.

Something is wrong with the breathing somewhere!

My wife used to work for Abbey National and amusingly their head of security was scammed into giving his details to someone on the phone!

I had one of the older supercharged (non JCW) cooper S from around 2003

A complete to hoon around in and great fun.
Also really tiring if you are doing lot of miles or motorway runs (I was doing around 20k a year)

Not driven a TTS but had one of the first 3.2’s which have a similar power output. The mags say that they are staid and not great to drive, but being able to use a good %age of the power in all weather is a great trick and most people cant drift!

I had a 09 2.o TSI scirocco and loved it – better handling than the Golf GTi (I had a 55 plate one) and a really nice place to be.

Not sure of your budget but there are some crazy cheap Golf R deals to be had at the leasing companies – check pistonheads best leasing deals. Or perhaps a scirocco R ………….lovely!

I’m not the most technically adept, but used beartunnel on hols a couple of weeks ago in Italy when I found that I could not watch the TDF on ITV4.

Worked fine and was easy to set up.

Only 500mb is free so depends on what you are using it for?

    Unlimited is 9.99 US dollars

Stayed at Perast – beautiful mountains and the sea!

Sorry my mistake was to omit the word ‘turbo’ to my post.

I would also divulge that I am following the long tradition of recommending what you have (non convertible)

    Op seems to like 911s.

Why not go for a late 996 convertible? You may even see it appreciate.

They are a good choice from the perspective of not having the bore scoring or ims issues as they have a metzeger engine.

Might not be the most comfortable in the back though.

My neighbour has the most shouty rs4 in the world and he is selling! Really excellent condition, really expensive exhaust and rebuilt engine. I had a go with huge grin on my face – couldn’t beleive it was legal to have it so noisy.

Not trying to be a detective – but is there anything to say which taxi company they use? Might be worth a follow up to see if they logged the start address?

(Feeling a little apprehensive – this happened a bit to close to Hipperholme where I am!)

    Best of luck finding them!

I saw a post on FB today – an American company had a load of GPS tracking kit stolen.

The police for some reason found it quite east to locate the thieves and their haul! :-)

I bought a second hand Maxx D of here and find it wonderful!

I only use the higher settings for downhill gnarpoon action :-)
and don’t even have to charge it up for every ride!

This is quite a change from the experience with cheap Chinese lights – will it turn off going downhill again – will water ingress stop it working – will it swing over on the bars and blind me?

I would, in the great tradition of recommending what you have – recommend a Vax.

I bought one a while ago (Vax Air – quite light and exceptional suction – with a very long tube to do the stairs)

They come with a 6 year warranty which I have used a couple of times successfully (ours gets a battering with pets and a Victorian house – plenty of big carpets to clean)

There are also many offers on Vax stuff, not least through their website – email offers are keen!

I looked at a few of the bikes mentioned here and nearly bought a Whyte.

However I ended up going for a Charge cooker – it has plus sized tyres and I think it is fantastic!

It could be lighter (but weighs less than my orange 5) but is great from the perspective that you don’t have to hold back on the descents – great traction on the climbs too!

I’ve got a similar thing to the Aldi one, had it a couple of years.

Its great as a barbecue – I have struggled a bit with Pizza.

So far my best results have been to bring it up to temp then keep the fire to the right hand side and keep the pizza stone to the left to allow for indirect heat to cook the pizza rather than burn the base in direct contact with the flames.

    Could be me being rubbish!

My understanding is the same, the water in the heat store system is captive and only transfers heat to the tap water.

Still finding it difficult to get someone in the Halifax area to follow through and give me a quote!

Any other input – I’m sure that there are a few more people interested / involved in this type of thing? :-)

    Thanks for the input Globalti

I was confused by an engineer saying that heat stores were inefficient – I get that they are a bit complicated, but assuming that they are well insulated I don’t see how they could be inefficient

perhaps he is saying this just to guide me down the H2 panel route?

I like the sound of your system.

I would have thought that at 60k there would be little to worry about from a lease car – it is within the lease conditions that servicing in done to manufacturers recommendations.

Most likely the car will be on the second pair of front tyres (or ready for the third), could be on the original rears.

CLutch etc should be perfect still.

It would be worth seeing if the model you are looking at has any belts etc that need changing towards the 100k miles as they can be expensive if done and ruinous if not done!

I would be looking to see if the corners were scratched / doors dinged – body work is quite expensive to fix!

FWIW I’ve had a couple of tow bars fitted to cars by a local fitter.

He does sub contract work for the main dealers – you can get the same fitter, fitting the same tow bar for a couple of hundred quid less if you go direct.

Main dealers like this kind of activity – £200 profit for doing nothing!

    Some interesting responses here!

For the avoidance of doubt – speed is not the only thing that is important, but with the ease of measuring rides / segments etc this is as much about expectation setting as a thirst for knowledge

Seems my speediest days may be yet to come! (With a little reading and application)

I did it for the first time this year – bought a Charge Cooker 4 at big discount from Evans

RRP around £1500 – discounted down to £899 and will pay that amount over the year before tax

As I see it I will pay around 500 for the bike over the year!

Daffy – Ive got an account with them -its fairly easy

I had a house I bought to do up a few years ago – bought a kitchen from them for it, some 8 years later re-opening the account was easy (doing my own kitchen now)

Worth asking them for an account – if you get no joy you could order through mine if helpful – where are you based?

The high intensity bit is interesting above to keep muscle mass

I’ve always been a steady rider – bought a garmin and HR monitor belt to see how hard I should be pushing when out with some (younger / lighter) fitter friends.

I can do zone 1,2,3 all day long but really struggle to get into zone 4.

Perhaps I need to have my HR measured properly rather than the 220 minus my age?

If you are looking for a cheap new car then look at the best new leasing deals on pistonheads.

There are some new cars which can be leased for 2 years for less than the depreciation you would suffer as a private individual (this is because manufacturers sometimes heavily discount to leasing companies – this means when they add on their profit margin the payments are attractive to the end user)

You never own the car – but you never have much risk either.

For instance you could lease a 3 series for around £300 per month – not looked for a few months but even the 330d / 335d can be leased cheaply

DSG / Freedom / coast2coast are all leasing companies that seem to have good deals on , again pistonheads will share if this is foot in the door pricing or cars are actually available!

We thought that a full appeal process would be needed for my son.

As it happened, we got a place on reallocation – my experience was that lots of people moaned about their allocation, but did nothing about it.

Not sure how lucky we were but the process for us was really easy and we managed to get my daughter in the same school this year on the sibling rule!

    Best of luck OP!

Its a good thought if the bike is the same size as the turbo bike for me to make for easy switching!

Not sure if that would limit her use if I am not there though

She already has a bike for using outside!

how about a border filled with large gravel / stones to wash the bike on – dirty water drops between the stones and bike is clean?

I would look at the battery and find a similar one on Ebay / euro carparts or similar and fit it yourself
Usually only a couple of nuts to undo on the terminals (noting + and -) then a couple of fastenings to stop the battery moving around. Should take no more than 20 mins

There will be a capacity on the battery eg 60 ah 9 amp hours) dont go below the on fitted when new and you should be ok -euro carparts and other parts places have a number plate look up so that you get the right fittings (terminals etc) should be a really easy but satisfying job!
