Here’s an update on the brakes!

Thanks for all the ideas and thoughts on the topic

1st stage – soaked in boiling hot water and fairy – scrubbed for a while then dried and lightly sanded.
Passed the spin the wheel and grab the brake to see if they work test, but failed on the can they stop a grown man down his steep drive test.

2nd stage – fired up the biolite stove (how very STW!) and got the brake pads really hot, then the whole perimeter of each disc.
Much better and longer-lived braking power and better feel as I lubed the wires.

Explained to parents that if they go rubbish again new pads will be needed and advised that child uses at their risk!

Hope that helps someone in the same situation!

    Cheers
    Alastair

Thanks TJ – do you mean burn as in – put in the oven, or burn as in – put in a flame?

ie is it temperature or flame that works best?

I’ve used them for a while, just because they are cheap

They seem to be fine until the local last link is off on holiday or sick etc.

When that happens invariably the new person has difficulty finding addresses and can use the system to reduce their hassle – one favourite is to not bother with delivery and tick the box on their system to suggest a customer has asked for a return.

This means they don’t have to try again tomorrow (most have a contract to try 3 times)

Regular people seem great, temporary ones seem to be really rubbish – contacting them is an absolute nightmare with never-ending loop systems on webchat and phone with no real chance to share what’s going on.

They do deal with a very high volume of parcels and a certain problem rate is to be expected. My issue is just how hard it is to sort out issues when they occur

3rd for Tayna for batteries – quick, efficient and the best prices I could find!

A deep discharge for an extended period is a good way to kill a battery, unfortunately!

Try a slow trickle charge with a charger if you can use a “smart” charger they sometimes have recovery options.

Quick update in case it helps someone else

The live chat was very helpful!

Apparently pressing both the cup buttons does something to reset the infuser mechanism, as soon as I took the tray out and pressed them together with the infuser in, there was a whirring of the infuser moving and the lights error lights went out

I’m now enjoying my first cup of coffee from the machine in 2 months!

Thanks to the Singletrack Hive mind!!

    Thanks for the inputs all!

The carriage can be moved (you can have it turn on a developer mode and use 2 buttons to make it go up and down) it seems to have the full range of movement

I’ll have a go at the hard reset process – thanks for the suggestion I think its different to the one I found on google!

I’ll also contact delonghi for a quote in case all else fails!

    Many thanks!

Ive had an Uuni 3 for a few months and am still playing with different recipes / toppings etc

One top tip I have discovered is to help with pizza sticking to the peel before firing. If you give it a sharp tap it seems to unstick the pizza and will then remain easy to slide off the peel into the oven for a few seconds. The tap needs to be quite sharp (maybe against a wooden fence) – it really helps if the pizza has rested on the peel or if there are lots of toppings weighing it down

Try it and let me know if it works for you!

I’ve had a magnifica for a number of years and it’s been great.

Unfortunately, it’s now got a problem and I cannot seem to fix it!

Basically I am getting the error code that the infuser is not fitted, even when it is. The first 4 left hand leds light up in sequence and the machine wont reset or reset to the taking the infuser out position. I can eventually take the infuser out with trial and error of raising and lowering it but nothing seems to help with the sensing thing (tried a bit of blue tack etc)

Does anyone have any experience of the same problem and a route to a solution – I need coffee back in my life – hopefully without a £300 bill!

I got one of the Aldi ones a while ago

When it worked it was really good – not just for the price – really good

However its stopper working and so far the customer service has been rubbish in terms of trying to get a replacement or repair – I’ll update this as and when I have any better news

A more mundane reason might be due to an area of stubborn high pressure forcing all the storms to go South of the UK for a few weeks

I generally work in Pharmaceutical sales (Market access and team management) but presently the NHS is not receptive to new ideas owing to the huge workload that COVID causes, not to mention the people out of action making it worse for those left

To make ends meet I am selling Audiobook on eBay – I managed to buy a job lot just before lockdown.

They are all unabridged audiobooks (from libraries) and some of them seem quite rare!

If anyone wants to be entertained by an audiobook during lockdown it might be worth looking me up on eBay (Alibongo001)

I could also offer help to anyone considering a role in pharmaceuticals with a chat and potentially a network of ex-colleagues from the last 29 years

I might ask for a CV review too!

Stay Safe everyone – what a great idea Chipps – I would love some Binners artwork!

The floor is around 25 degrees but with minimal contact I would say that the brew was just over 20 degrees most of the time (probably higher than the first attempt though)

I used the priming sugar from the kit and dissolved it before adding to ensure uniform dosing.

In terms of keg – it’s one I was given a typical white plastic roundish with a tap at the bottom
    – I can’t really rate it at the moment!

I might read up on cold shocking and try that !

    @Yourguitarhero
There were a few differences, but mostly similarities:

All stuff cleansed in the same way
When the brew set off the first time it was reasonably gentle, continuing bubbling for over a week or so
The second time it was quite brisk and all over in a week.

Same brew kit, same brewing kit

Temperature as similar as I could make it (first time was a warmer ambient temp, the second time was helped by keeping it on a heated floor – I wonder if the second brew was warmer and that accounts for the difference?)

The only other difference was i put most of it in a pressure keg, rather than bottles (mainly as the first brew was incredibly fizzy – so much so that the fizz disturbed yeast from the bottle every time)

Would cold crashing help and how could I do it?

    Thanks for your help

Perhaps someone could give me a bit of advice?

I did a second brew of the Youngs IPA – and it tastes funny – yeasty and quite bitter

The first brew went well and was not just nice for homebrew, but actually really nice compared to other beers

Is there anything I can do to take away the yeasty taste (its been in the cask for about a month)
Or is it too late and I need to start again

    Thanks in advance!

My guess would be that it’s worth charging and then seeing how the car behaves.

I’ve got a car that is used infrequently and it gives all kinds of spurious messages if you don’t keep it on trickle charge!

Even with stop/start, I would not have thought a new battery should be required at this point in a car’s life – just hope that it’s not ruined the battery going into a state of deep discharge – they don’t seem to like that!

My thoughts are with you at an amazingly difficult time.

Nobody would choose to get cancer – but there is nn better time to have contracted it than now – treatment regimes and the success rates are climbing.

Best of luck to you both!

Just seen that the non-deluxe version is on PSN for £8.99

I’ve bought it thinking I’ve got a bargain, but then noticed the delux was £13 above somewhere!

Whats the difference between the versions? Should I cancel and find the deliuxe version?

I’ll put a new psn on if this is a good price!

I had a display problem with my Maxxd and went for the upgrade (it was well out of warranty ie years and was bought second hand off here)

Apparently the light will do more dynamic turning down if still for a while (can’t say I have really noticed)

What I have noticed is that the silver button on the back is way better then the touch-sensitive jobby that used to be there! – easier to use, more positive and doubly so in winter with gloves

(Your view may vary on whether that’s worth £70!)

I’ve been trying it recently – I got a pallet of audiobooks and it turns out quite a few are reasonably rare ie the only copy on eBay Uk

I’ve been pricing strong and then making offers when people have been putting in their watch list.

So far it’s not been the best of strategies – I’m not sure if it’s because it’s new or due to the fact they last for 48 hours and users miss them?

I’m going to keep on trying!

The legs will fix – probably just stripped the thread – sugru can help with that part

wooden picture frame support as above is best for the marble. Clamp it tight to get the best fix, then use some crayon of an appropriate colour to fill in any gaps – might be able to make it look like the marbling?

    Thanks for the tips @Yourguitarhero.

I think I might have bottled the first batch too early from what you have said – it was very fizzy in a kind of stealth way – it looked ok then started to fizz up way more than you would expect

I added the bottling sugar to the main mix to make sure of consistency of dose.

I will try the swapping vessels thing next time and see if that helps manager the sediment.

The results from my kit were great so you guys making brews from first principles must have some fantastic beer to drink!!

I am new to brwewing recently and did a Youngs IPA kit last year

    It was really good!

So much so that I repeated the process a few weeks ago. However the second brew did not go like the first one, the brew seemed to be really furious for a few days and then was almost spent.

I might have left it in the fermenting vessel too long as I was expecting more bubbles for longer.

Anyway I thought I might as well add the final hops and bottle – and see how it goes. This first bottle a month after does not seem anywhere near as fizzy as the first batch and the taste was not right – I’m going to leave it another 2 weeks before testing again

Any tips on what I might have done wrong?

I think that more people should go on a course like my Mate’s company called Driver Skills!

They do a day that includes defensive driving with ex class 1 police instructors.

THen a skid pan session to feel what happens when it goes wrong (and how to correct it)

But the single most impactful part of the day is a session simulating an emergency situation, using ABS to avoid a collision. You would be surprised how many people don’t know that you can steer a car when ABS is firing.

In fact, there are published papers that show the benefit of ABS depends on your age and sex!

Not been to Finale (although its on the list)

You may find Garda riding quite technical from what you have said. There are guides (Riva in the North of the lake seems to have most and is the most popular biking town).

One suggestion could be to stay in Malcesine (about half way up) – there is a cable car to get up to 6000 feet and waymarked trails to get back down! – the 601 is excellent

Bike shops in Malcesine and Riva

If you get a report on a Porsche before buying (and I recommend that you do!) – then its usual to get a report on the engine like this

One of the things they look for (on a manual) is over revs which can obviously have a bad effect on the life of the engine. This is the kind of thing that can limit the warranty people are happy to offer.

I assume this is true for other brands but only have personal experience with Porsche

(you could buy an automatic – they cant be over-revved!_

its really not hard to do yourself!

What is the make and model of the fire? – google that and firebrick and see what comes up – usually there will be a complete set from Ebay.

    Often there are online instructions

Ive done the ones on my Esse Ironheart in about 30 mins

A good place to stay might be Malcesine about halfway up on the right-hand side (opposite Limone mentioned above).

There is a cable car that you can get up the 6000ft to Mt Baldo and then ride from there.

The 601 is an excellent waymarked trail which goes to Riva in the north (probably the most MTB place on the lake), but you can peel off and get back to Malcesine easily.

There are lots to see and do around the lake and many nice towns accessible by water and road.

If you hire a bike (available in Riva and Malcesine plus others) don’t forget that the brakes are the other way around (like I did!)

I think being a manager is quite like being the salesperson for a very small territory the team being your customers.

I’ve been in many sales roles over the years including managing teams up to around 13 people.

I would guess that any useful information on reasons why you have not yet made it to a manager with your current role might be best found out with a phone call (happy to help)

It may be that staying in first-line sales might be the best bet as the extra responsibility and workload are usually not met with enough extra salary etc to make it worthwhile unless you really want to!

Ive been shot at (very loosely) near Elland woods- riding up the hill with a mate and we heard some loud bangs, followed by a sound a bit like heavy rain in the trees.

When we could see over the wall it was a group doing clay pigeon shooting roughly in our direction and the “rain” was shot coming back down to earth through the trees.

That’s the fastest time I have ever managed up that hill!

I have a friend who is an IFA and he took all the exams to do this sort of thing in the last couple of years.

The report and the research that goes into it does take quite a long time if done properly, and there is also the risk element as the advice given has a long term for most people.

It is a difficult market and lots of people are pulling out because of the risk.

I have a couple of suggestions here!

1, Look up any local companies who make roof frames – I have found a couple locally who sell bags of offcuts quite cheaply.
As this is a waste product it has good environmental credentials – they use dried wood with no preservatives to worry about!

2, A good supplier of the compressed sawdust briquettes is on ebay – UK Timber Ltd
    https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Ecofire-Firewood-Eco-Logs-High-Quality-Hardwood-Wood-Briquettes-Heat-Fuel-Logs/261268694263?

They used to have some on auction – I have purchased 900kg for around £180 delivered a couple of times.
They are very dry (about 5% I think) and give off a lot of heat due to not needing to boil off the water content.

    Hope this help!

    Alastair
