    Yes they are loose!

No luck on Chainreaction, they only have pedal bearings.

Update on this in case anyone else has done the same.

Went to Maplin and a very nice man helped me take the broken connector apart to reveal the nicely colour coded wires inside and that the red wire was connected to the inside connector.

It turns out that the battery side connector was fine.

About 15 mins with a soldering iron and some heat shrink and I now have a fully working light again.

(The heat shrink will help keep the water out but also the body of the original connector was larger than the replacement so it will help keep the connectoin tight and hopefully keep the water out)

    Maplin in great service shocker!

    Cheers

    Thanks for the help all

I did not know about the ceramic insert types, they would be great for half of the chimneys as we only use a couple for real fires and 2 for gas fires

Nobody has any experience of this except for a (slightly) amusing picture then?

    Stoner / Bear

Wood burners of the STW forum where are you?

I did an hour locally around Judy Woods in West Yorks betwixt Halifax and Bradford.

Not cold enough to freeze and the mud was epic!

It was, however cold enough to make my hands cold, should have gone for the thicker, proper winter gloves I think!

Nice day to be out so took the dog for a walk after as darkness gathered and had a few spots of snow in the air

    Some good advice here.

A simple on which has caused me issues in the past is the pressure they are pumped up to

I am a bit heavy and if I dont pump them up past 100psi, I find punctures quite common one broken surfaces when going faster.

+1 for the worn tyre issues too (exacerbates the above)

(My mini pump struggles to get enough pressure in the road tyre, this has caused a couple of multi puncture trips in itself!)

Difficult time. Hope it goes better then you think.

Process is the most important thing here, if they get the process right then even though it may not be “right” to dismiss as a result of unsuccessful probation, then they can.

Have you had previous performance meetings where your (alleged) shortcomings have been highlighted?

Unfortunately a probation is much easier to end than a years work.

    Best of luck!

I had one for just over 3 years and about 70k miles.

Great car, one I miss more than I thought I would.

MPG was about 35 during my ownership (mostly motorway and a roads)

Good for the family although make sure the little ones can see out of the windows for best results.

Never used it for the bike as I have another car with a tow ball carrier.

Overall great performance, lowish running costs and I think sharper in looks and performance than the Gti (I have had a couple of them, so no prejudice!)

    Hope this helps

    Interesting points all.

Most interesting for me was DrRSWank’s point about there being little profit in Pharma.

It is very unusual not to jump on the profiteering big pharma / leeches on society band wagon.

    Dr RSW I salute you!

There was a black and green Specialized Camber stolen from the Greetland area too (from an earlier post on facebook)

Looks like there may be someone targeting the HX area.

The good thing is that you have admitted that you have a problem.

Once that important step has been taken there are support services that can help you.

Alternatively you can do it alone, it requires more self control but is ultimatley more satifying.

Try and go out on your bike and just have fun.

Then try to cycle without the phone / garmin occasionally

Before you know it then you will be an Ex Strava addict…….but you must never go back!

    Hi OP

I have had some of my windows refurbed professionally with a similar process to the rediseals link above.

The main feature is that the windows run on some draft proofing pile (like the stuff that insulates modern double glazed windows) rather than a wood to wood interface which is bound to wear and leave gaps.

They rattle less and have less obvious draught through them which is good.

However thinking that it is a long term solution is probably not right as some of my frames have rotted under the new paint and I think I am going to have to replace them all with modern UPVC sash units soon.

I would have thought that doing it yourself would be difficult, but if you have the skills patience and time, very rewarding.

    Hopt this helps

    Al.

However it cost me a lot (front elevation only around 2k for 4 rooms with large windows, a few years ago)

Bubion and Capelliera have some great trails, There is a fantastic flowy singletrack route down from the top of Mulhacen (although at 3000m it does take a while to get up!)

Have you checked Strava out (you will be able to see some of the trails we did last year, look for Keith Jackson for rides around Capileira or Bubion)

    Hope this helps

Not sure of the exact make up of your shed Stoner, but I saw a log burner with the fitting kit for a Yurt on Ebay!

I would have thought if you can have a flue through some material, you should be able to get one through a shed roof safely!

    This sort of thing!

Sorry, missed a couple of posts and see others have mentioned yurts etc worth a look on Ebay to see how they do it?

There is a hire shop at the bottom of the cable lift up to Mt Baldo (in malcesine), hired one a couple of years ago and it was ok (not really enough suspension and the brakes being the wrong way round did not help)

A great day can be had getting a lift to the top of the mountain and riding down (there are lots of way marked routes)

There are some spectacular hotels in Malcesine, depending on your budget.

We have stayed at the Majestic Palace several times, very good for families, maybe not the best for your needs.

There is a hotel near the castle, that looks spectacular, but not sure of the budget!

Enjoy…….its a wonderful part of the world

Not particularly “Shredding the Gnar”, but had a lovely family ride with my kids (6 and 11) along the planets ride at York.

A nice way to spend a couple of hours whilst Mrs Bongo had a look around the shops at York.

Great family ride on the flat (little legs dont like hills!) with the added interest of a scale model of the planets to break the 7 ish miles up for the little ones.

    All bathed in sunshine.

Obviously I am not jealous of talk of proper rides with hills and trail centres etc on here!

If you have kids and want to go for a ride with them I would recommend the planets ride

My plums are rubbish this year, hardly any fruit.

Last year was good and they do seem to boom and bust.

    No cherries this year either

Its grim (and wet) in Yorkshire

Great tyres the small block 8s but you have to know their limitatoins.

Clearly not great for mud (especially clay)

Another issue we found out last year during a descent of Mulhacen in Sierra Nevada, Spain is that the side walls on the middle size are laughably thin. We had about 20 punctures between 6 of us!

If we ever have another summer I’ll be looking forward to putting them back on again

    HI All

    Here’s my two pence worth:

    It depends what you drive!

Anything with a turbo is likely to sense the extra octanes in the fuel and optimise the engine to run on the better fuel.

Studies have shown marginal benefits on say a 2.0 petrol Golf, more benefit on a more highly tuned car (usually turbo powered)

I have a 3.6 turbo 911 and if you dont use super unleaded then it backs off the ignition to protect against pre-detonation. ALso the max boost goes down from about .8 to .6 which apparently loses some of the power (not sure how much).

I havent seen (but dont know if there is) any data on the super diesel stuff!

    alibongo001

There is already a source of this information, called the GPRD (general practice research database) in the UK and (retrospective) studies are already being published with data from it.

You can probably guess that I have an interest in this area from the tone of my post.

As far as making lots of money from this venture, I doubt this would happen as the stuff that you need to sell a medication is a good quality (read expensive) prospective study of what happens with the drug vs placebo or other active comparator.

Retrospective studies of populations are interesting, and add from a safty point of view. However they are viewed as being lower down the heirachy of evidence base to prospective studies in terms of quality of evidence for decision making.

There remains a possibility for revenue generation for the government as at the moment I beleive that Pharma companies can have no involvement in any studies which use this type of data in the UK

Make sure you to the ascent to Mulhacon.

3500m high, but its a great feeling to know you have 2km of vertical drop to do on the way down.

(Dont use small block 8’s, our group of 6 had over 20 punctures on the way down :( )

I used to autograss a while ago, great fun and not too expensive if you don’t crash

I am not sure which class your car would go in (depends on engine size and FWD/RWD etc.

I still have a class 8 open wheeled special in my garage that the OH is desparate for me to sell if anyone is interested? (Honda CBR 1000 power……….really quite fast!)

You could use the swift now for autotest events, again local car club or Pistonheads would be your friend there!

To echo other posts above none of this is effort free though!

    Hi

Another to look at is a Scirroco, especially if you were going to go for the 2 door Gti

I have just given a 2.0 tsi petrol one back to the leasing company after 3 or so years and 70k miles.

I previously had a mkv gti and enjoyed the handling of the scirocco more and also thought it seemed a little lighter on its feet!

Had to go for the diesel 3 series now as 20k miles a year costs a lot @ 35 mpg!

    Cheers

I am not sure if you are into Strava or not?

If so and you can get the GPX trace off someone who was faster than you, then you could visit raceshape.com and see where they were quicker than you!

As said above it is probably a little everywhere, but it can help to see if ups or downs are the problem (or the food stations)

    Hope this helps

    HI All,

Cheeku high jack, but I am interested in getting a 5 sometime over the next year.

Idiotdogbrain and others seem to be good on the details of the Fice history, so can you answer this Q?

I am looking to buy a second hand 5, what year would you start looking at? Would a 2010 frame’s enhancements be the best yeat to go for and what are the other thresholds in the design of the frame?

(I thought they had changed very little over the years!)

Also what is the difference between a 5 and a sub 5?

    Cheers

Of course you can haggle………..the worst that can happen is they say no.

1, This is a quiet time for car sales as people are thinking of holidays, not cars

2, You could buy the car anywhere, why should you buy from them?

(I just bought a new car for work with £500 loyalty bonus from BMW and around 3k of deposit contribution from the dealer, I also asked for the service package on top and they said yes!)

No salesman will be upset if you ask, just be prepared for a no!

If they do it, it’s worth it for them.

    Hope this helps!

    ALso works with cars too.

I am looking to change the car I use for work.

    So far

BMW garage 1- no follow up call with the details of the cars he was looking to source

Mercedes garage 1 – again no follow up with specific cars for a deal being discussed

Looks like I will be contacting the guy who usually supplies my cars and giving him some more business (6th car purchase with him)

You would have thought £400 per month for 4 years was business worth having?

Couple of pointers for you from my last visit to Malcesine:

1, Take your own bike if you can as the hire ones have the brakes the other way around………..dangerous!

2, If you are in the moddle of the lake, there are a number of routes down from the top of Mt Baldo- not necessarily down hill routes, but more all mountain.

The route I took was quite challenging with lots of rocky drop offs etc, so dont forget to take your bag of skills!

    Have a great time!

    Al.
