No chance. She'd hate every minute. If you missus needs the break so badly, why don't you watch the sprog and let her go?

And also, if you have kids you need to look after them. That gets tiring. But that's life buddy.

mr smith: 'taste' is a funny thing you only have to look at the naive imagery in the photography thread to see this

The "naive imagery" is by amateurs. Are all photographers this pompous? Or is it just you and Ti29er?

Florence and the machine for my missus – crap. Also, Minsitry of Sound 80's anthems, also for the missus – but not crap.

Ti29er, nobody is questioning your business model. Its great – mine is very similar – price what your market (or more specifically customer) will pay. But do you have to be such a d!ck about it?

Phillips' post reminded me of how its unacceptable for dog owners to let their dog sh!t and not pick it up but its somehow OK for horse riders to watch their charges expel 3 stone of horse dung in the middle of the road and drive away.

PeterPoddy, to me that sounds just like how a wedding should be. And almost exactly what I would have done if I wasn't so young and impressionable when I got hitched.

I'm with Tijuana Taxi on this. Its a complete racket. And Ti29er, how do you get any work with that bigheaded attitude?

Jesus, seemed to have started something here!

I'd like to think that I am a responsible dog owner – Elaine, my dogs have never humped anything and normally I have them under control and I am the pack leader. As I have said above, I only have this one particular issue. I can take them out on my bike and they follow me, completely ignoring other dogs, bikes etc.

I know that a bit of retraining is required – I was just looking for a few quick pointers from anyone who has experienced similar issues. Looks like its back to the long leash and a firm rebuke. Anybody seen my Koelher Handbook?

Fotorat. I deal with a lot of photographers and I can assure you it's not a low paid profession. Most photographers I know do very well thank you.

Surely quoting the amount of work involved is just a poor attempt to jusitfy the price. People don't pay for time, they pay for an end result. It should be "£4k becuase my photos are f*cking outstanding" not "£4k because I've spent ages on it". And if people are dumb enough to pay it then well done on a profitable business. And of course there is an element of assuming a £4k photographer is better than a £500 one.

Everybody involved in the wedding "racket" tout the same line: it's your big day, do you want risk NOT paying top dollar and getting some old cr*p ? Take some polaroids, get everybody a fish supper and then have a big party. With the millions you save either donate to DEC Haiti or, more sensibly, buy a new bike and have a belter of a honeymoon. I know that's what I (and the missus) would do if we had the chance again.

Mate on mine just got quoted £27k. Not sure of size but I would guess about 4m X 4m. Thats in Scotland mind.

I've been thinking about getting them "sorted" anyway. It seems cruel not to but as they were no trouble, I didn't bother.

SOOBalias, I was pretty sure I had them under control as I have had no trouble with them before. But fair point.

Woody, yeah thats what I figured. How to break the habit is the problem. Seems a bit extremme to cut their b*ll*cks off but the vet suggested thats what I do.

    £1500. wtf.

I dunno what our weding photographer cost but when you consider the photos are probably going to be in a box under the stairs or in the attic for the rest of your life, thats probably a bit steep.

Burns is ace. The language can be a bit difficult even if (as GrahamS says) you are Scottish but get through that and he really is great.

And he wrote a poem called "Cock Up Yer Beaver" .

I regret following my dad into his business and not becoming the world famous music journalist I was destined to be!

However, if I hadn't gone into the family business, I wouldn;t have met the missus and then not had the kids which are by far and away the greatest thing in the world. So, I suppose, no regrets.

Evangelist Agnostics / Athiests. Is banging on about there being NO god any worse than banging on about there being one. The fact is, there probably isn't one but I don't need somebody telling me to look at the Fjords of Norway as proof of his/her/its existence.

And a wee bit of tolerance of other people's views wouldn't go amiss.

I though he came over as really disrespectful in the retreat place. But my wife pointed out that the guru wasn;t particularly bothered about his uncouthness so why should we.

I used to quite like him but he's becoming a bit of a d1ck these days.

John ofarell. An utterly exasperating history of the last 60 years. Quite an interesting read on politics written in an easy to read style which makes it pretty accessible.

Got a James lee Burke next and then The Road by Cormac Mccarthy n

+1 hora. I was thinking (hoping) that at least she'd have skelped herself in the puss with the wrench thing. The program is pretty poor imo. First time I saw it it was good but its a bit samey now. Wouldn't fancy it as a job though. Wonder what the pay is like?

Its amazing how many people have the same memories conjured up by the great man's voice: saturday afternoon, at dad's feet, etc.

I'm no rugby fan but I've strong memories of sitting in front of the fire with Lego or something on a Saturday while my Dad would be watching a 5 nations match. There was something about his voice that kind of made me want to watch the screen.
