Cheers for the advice everyone, Im very sure that the pads are fitted correctly with the clip – i’m baffled how they manage to get tangled up in the rotor.

Ill try letting a bit of fluid out of the system as im confident that i’ve done everything else you have all suggested – marsdenman – i followed that exact video!

As far as I’m aware, they are all Tomac ones. just look at the Kenda site and you’ll see that the BG and Nevagal (plus others) are in the ‘Tomac line’.

    I may be wrong.

Just today mounted a BG/nevagal combo (both 2.35 DTC compound) to replace some Intense system 4’s that I never trusted lent over. I like the look of the BG up front – you can tell its gonna be slow, but the knobs are big and supported and by the looks of it it should fare ok with a bit of mud. I’ll have to wait and see I guess.

Take either bike and you’ll have a laugh, but it is a bit of a compromise. I ride in the Peak a fair bit and have recently been loving it on the hardtail singlespeed 29er with 80mm forks. However, everytime i ride my bigger bike I always think that I’d hate to have to do this SS!

Given your personal quiver and the distance of the ride, I’d take the handjob with big tires. Decents are rocky (although I’m not sure of the exact route you are taking) in the Peak so big rubber is the way forward.

I have some 719’s and think they are pretty good – maybe a bit narrow. I guess it depends on what tyres you are running, I find anything over 2.25″ a bit dodgy on the 719.

i have had 521’s in the past but find them very heavy (im a wee nipper at 10 stone) but they were bombproof – still going strong on a mates bike.

All shimano bits I have bought from a large online retailer have either been OEM or from a split groupset. I don’t really mind as it saves on packaging (they just come in poly bags) that I would just throw away, but I do weigh this up with the competition before purchase.

However it is not listed as being OEM or otherwise….

I was thinking about going down this route. Currently run some aging Intense System 4’s but need more grip. Do you guys rate the NN’s for general XC in the Peak -> black trail centres?

ok, so whats the difference between 96er and 69er? I was very confused with the article in last month’s mag because they all had big wheel front, small wheel back. That is what i’d call a 69er, a 96er being big wheel back, small wheel front…

    am I wrong?

MrNutt, There is a smallbore range in Potterne, just outsize Devizes. Probably a good place to enquire about full bore.

thanks SSP, yeah I was talking about sliders as per Paragon. Didn’t realise the frame had to be re-jigged.

    hmm… back to considering a pre-done frame.

Slighly OT: whats peoples thoughts on EBB’s? Phil Wood ones.

WCA – thanks for your interest. I’d love to help out.

If you send me an email to my address (in profile) ill email you with a document i got from the Transport for London which may be of use to you. It outlines what they believe is acceptable in the terms of temporary cycle parking. I feel they fall short of acceptable, but it’s a start.

    Thanks everyone for the input.

I’m aiming to make it an unmanned facility as far as possible. This would reduce overall costs and reduce the likelihood that some of the trusted individuals could be members of a ‘gang’.

Olly – I’m in my final year of Design with Engineering Materials at Loughborough.

Frenchie – Sounds good! I’m unsure if Ill be making a prototype yet as time constraints push in. (finished project – evaluated, must be submitted by 8th May. That’s on top of my other bits of work. My parents live in Chapmanslade so Warminster is only down the road! Ill look into it – thanks very much for offering me somewhere to test the idea.

Nice one Willy by getting on the BSES exped. It is sure to be a great trip.

Just ignore the misers that have no imagination. Yes you could sell most of your possessions, but what would that leave you when you get back? Plus I assume part of the challenge is raising the cash – just selling stuff defeats the object in my opinion.

As ‘ourmaninthenorth’ said, work out what proportion of the money is paying for the trip, and what proportion you have raise for charity (i assume this is set by BSES). Try and pay for the trip yourself, but use fund-raising methods to gather money for the charities. It will help if you make it clear that the money people donate will be going to these charities, and is not just going to help you have a good time.

I’m running a Monkey and absolutely love it! yeah, its not super lively, but its no dead donkey. The thing I love about it is its adaptability. Ive used mine as a tourer, commuter, epic off-road mile muncher and it’s currently set up as a trail bike. Ace.

If you are sure your charger is working, then I’d say its defo time for a new battery.

Does it do the same when in the van? i.e. is it not holding charge after a good run? Alternator ok?

I don’t have one, but I was looking at one in Hellfrauds last time I was in.

It was hooked up to a turbo trainer so I swung a leg over and had a spin.

For the money I liked it. I think its looks quite cool – maybe not a good thing if it’s an urban commute.

I have a set of 175mm’s on my SS and 170mm’s on my full sus. I can’t really feel any difference when riding, but psychologically I wouldn’t want anything shorter that 175mm for the SS… leverage?

I’ve got a Caddy C20. It fits a bike length-wise, at a push, but at a slight angle no worries. I removed the bulkhead and fitted a camper conversion kit from amdro (www.amdro.co.uk). It’s slightly less practical for carrying bikes now but can be done with a bit of jiggery-pokery. The camper kit can be removed really quickly and easily, if needed, but I find I can get away with leaving it in. Great for races or just a dirty weekend away with the bikes.

Its a great car-like van. Recommended.

Thanks Andy for updating us all,

I have used CRC many times in the past and have never had a problem before. Im guessing that the fact you are so busy is a nothing but a good thing considering the tightening economy. Keep it up.

To update on my situation, the items order have arrived – no problem.

My only gripe was the lack of communication and the fact the order is still ‘processing’ in my account area of the site!!

Sorry for jumping to a unfavorable conclusion. Hope your order ends up sorted Redted.

Not entirely sure, but I thought they were used to protect your trousers from getting oily… maybe search for “trouser protector” or similar if you haven’t already????

    sorry, not much help.

    Yep.

I ordered some bars needed for the weekend on Wednesday night needing them for the weekend, i.e. today. Paid an extra £6 for “guaranteed next day” Special Delivery.

The order is still showing as processing despite the product still showing as In Stock.

Just wanted to chase things up on the phone, but i just get the same recorded message.
