    Bad luck mate,

Well its at £308 now and I had it up for sale here for £450 so fingers crossed it will make £400.

But still – ITS NOT COMING UP ON THE SEARCH NOW! how is that gonna help!

I've got a bike on there at the mo that I couldn't shift on here and need the cash to fix my van.

Problem is that it doesn't show up in the searches with 12hrs left to go 😯

Still got 80 watchers and 19 bids – I just can't work out how they found it!

Not looking forward to the fees, but it's a means to an end.

I've been really impressed with Cane Creek's 'S' series. Ive owned an S8 and two S3's and all 3 have been no-nonsense. Recommended

Inbred here too – had the first gen DN6 SS and loved it. sold it to a mates gf for £150 whole bike in good nick. Then bought a 456 but it never instilled me with the same feeling as the original.

Just got one of the new breed inbred's and will take it out for its maiden in the morning. Fingers crossed it lives up to expectations.

    So yes, 'B'.

No the ring is designed to be able to turn around therefore getting twice the use out of it – good idea.

Just messing around- fitted an old middle ring and new chain and it works better – no chainsuck but noisy for some reason.

I think rootes1 is right – I may have the thicker Surly ring which would explain why it worked fine on my SS with an 8 speed chain.

Just ordered a Blackspire Mono Veloce 32T from CRC so thats both new chain and new ring covered. fingers crossed!

Drivetrain is squeaky clean, no burs on the steel ring but I've flipped it just in case (so it's running on 'new' sides of the teeth) but chain has done about 500 miles tops.

Thinking of getting a new ring (got a new chain in the spares box) but which one? Thinking of getting an alloy DH one (Blackspire/Raceface) rather than a dedicated SS ring a la Surly – thoughts?

I have had a stainless for about 7 months and its great! Just bought another for the new build – not a part worth scrimping on IMHO.

I got a VW caddy 55 plate from the auctions – cheap but It has cost me in the long run. I got it at 90k but the gearbox is worn, and now the turbo naffed up. Normally I'd say you would be fine sub 100k for a new buy but it goes to show that this is not always the case – choose wisely grasshopper.

Is the neighbours house made from wattle and daub?

I hope not cos that would mean so is mine!

Got the chain keeper from here: Freshstripe Bikes – I think I had the last 28.6mm one though he did have a few left in a larger size.

The code of the AA man's laptop was (i think) P0299 – turbo underboost. Would Vagcom give any more info that that?

EDIT: I'm in West Wilts/East Somerset.

Well its been at the main dealer all day and I would have thought they would have checked all the obvious things before settling on replacing the turbo – then again, they are a main dealer…

I think somethings got wet (electrical) but i'm not a mechanic.

Yeah, I'll give them a call soon.

My only job at the moment is as a volunteer so I hope there is a cheap fix!

Anyone know what I can do about the main dealer IF there turns out to be a problem that can be solved much cheaper (such as replacing a sensor) that they obviously knew about but are trying to pull the wool over my eyes? But maybe I'm jumping the gun here

Cheers for that link coffeeking, very useful info. The only problem is that the error code that that talks about is overboost, whereas I'm getting underboost. Still damn sight cheaper than the £800+fitting+VAT+fat cat main dealer tax that I have been quoted.

Engine warning codes as read from the AA comp were along the lines of 'turbo/supercharger underboost'.

The AA's computers can't read individual sensors on this engine so they couldn't check it out for me.

Thanks for the replies so far.

EDIT: turbo is burried down the back but the first AA bloke 'copped a feel' and said it all felt ok – i guess he meant the fins were intact and/or the bearings were fine.

No idea sorry. It's the PD engine if that makes any difference. 55 plate

Had a fiddle with the floodgate – it was damn stiff and needed the use of an adjustable to free it with a little 'click' (couldn't move it with fingers alone). Works fine now!

Not a great pic of the bike, but it was found in a skip and worked pretty well from the off:
