I think it will spin and work now I’d trimmed the side knob shamfer closer to the casing. Showroom clearance at the pinch points though.

3rd shot is of the un inflated Trax fatty next to the purgatory. Quite similar, but the trax doesn’t give a uniform round profile once inflated, which is my gripe with it. I suspect it needs Hugo wide rims to make it more uniform

We have no idea of the distance between the cyclist and pedestrian as he stepped out, nor cycle speed.

There are approved stopping sight distances for vehicles for a given speed. I would imagine at low speeds a cycle has similar distances to a car . A lot of that distance is made up in the reaction time. If the ped was unsighted he may not have had time to react, let alone brake.

I design roads, I commute on a bike. I witness lots of crazy ideas about cycle routes/lanes from people who have never rode a bike on the road.

Sometimes the best decision is to not have a cycle facility, rather than trying to tick boxes and build something impractical to use, or outright dangerous.

    As above, or praxxis.

The cost of expanders are not far off the cost of a whole cassette.

I think the sign is “cyclists rejoin the route” or something like that ilk. I obviously pay attention to these…

I’m just waiting on a warranty cassette, then I’ll be able to test if a lightly shaved 3.0 purgatory will actually ride. Clearance looks the same as the Trax fatty now (2-3mm) at pinch point. I’ll post a photo too.

To be honest, (and I say this as a highway designer), its very rare that we get a brief for a scheme which places cycle use as a high priority or driver in the scheme.

They are usually schemes to improve capacity (and so economically justified). Cycle facilities are then Ill thought out, and shoe horned in. Or they put a scatter gun of warning signs up.

Have a nose at the vosprung corset sleeve for use on the ctd.

Has sorted the initial harshness and lack of mid travel support on my ctd. Also the last bit of travel really ramps up with spring rate and I’ve not bottomed it out yet.

We dont know how far behind the bus was behind the cyclist, to use it as a yardstick for stopping in sufficient time and crucify the cyclist for riding inappropriately, it should be discounted.

If someone walks out in front of you (be that in a car or bike), you have no time to react and you are not breaking the law; on what basis is the car driver or cyclist at fault?

Can the pedestrian be accused of using the highway without due care and attention. I’m sure this would be thrown at other road users if they were using the highway whilst using a mobile device.

What bike is it going on?

What were the issues you were having?

Did you try playing with volume spacers?

Was the cyclist travelling within the posted speed limits?

Did the pedestrian walking out, give the cyclist enough time to react and stop at the posted speed limit?

The pedestrian introduced an unavoidable hazard to the cyclist who was travelling within the law on the highway. Ped did not afford the cyclist the potential to stop. I would put it down to the pedestrian not assessing oncoming vehicle speed, but he wasn’t even looking from the op’s report.

The accelerating hard from the lights occired at the junction, and away from the incident. When the pedestrian stepped out was the cyclist travelling at a constant speed or still accelerating.

I think the pedestrian is at fault, proving that could be tricky and if he doesn’t have cover its a waste of your time and energy.

I think the trailblazer is a very good rear tyre.

I wasn’t sold on the Trax fatty, but actually it seems it was quite good up against a meaty Hans damf

Riding for fun, not to win.

I’m better at stuff pointing down than up. I ride anything from bmx to road bike.

Trax isn’t good enough for winter but nobby nic should be out soon

Stickyness can be the foam seals don’t have enough lube. I diy serviced my own oil in damper and lowers and had This issue.

    ^ crazy but true.

Nemesis, I’ve just trimmed a bit off each side of the tyre so no use to you.

Anyway, I’m going back to 29″ and testing. If it’s unfavourable I’ll probably just sell the hope/light bike carbon 38mm rims and tyres I have off.

To be honest, putting the 2.8 trailblazer next to my maxxis 2.35 hr2 on flow rims…there wasn’t much difference. A good 2.5 dh tyre is probably similar.

Cokie, that was 7mm shared between both sides. It appears to wobble a bit at present. So 5mm one side and 2mm the other (it’s now grown enough to physically touch the fork this am and won’t turn) I’ll try reseating the tyre and trimming it. I think its a no for revs and pikes.

The purgatory has grown a bit too. The only way it will have any clearance to revelations is with a trim to the side knobs.(the carcass size is ok but the side knobs protrude to a point that’s exactly where the bulge is) . Being as its now a useless 45 pound tyre to me, I’ll probably trim the side knobs, but I’d advise not to buy this for revelation 29″ fork.

Nobby nic/ rocket Ron’s are due soon in 2.8 from chatting to my lbs

    Yes, 38mm rims.

It’s a shame as I think that’s a dam good tyre. Well rounded, good side knobs and doesn’t self steer

    alexh

Actually, with some playing I’ve got 7mm clearance between the fork (revs)and tyre (3.0 purgatory) (shared between both sides) the tyre still isn’t perfectly centred and sways a little. It’s not ideal ,its just that bulge by the seals.

29″ wheels have gone back in for now, going to do the same ride as last Sunday to compare

3.0 purgatory won’t go into revelations forks. It would have a couple of mm each side if it sat centrally…. Which its not atm

I have to echo the above. I spent some time riding with a fat front end last winter and I sold it because it was doing my riding no good.

That track looks like it needs more skill and balls than I’ve got in my locker.

Thanks Thomas for taking the time to post that up. To be honest that’s about the same clearance as the Trax fatty.

Balls, I suspect the revs will be worse.

    Tyre shaving…….?

    alexh

Clearance at the arch isn’t an issue. There is a bulge by the dust seals that’s an issue

    alexh

That would be great. I suspect they will fit in pikes, maybe not revs though….

I’ve got revs and 38mm rims. I’m a touch worried the bulge may foul the tyre. I’ll find out soon enough!

45 pounds from my local spec dealer, much cheaper than the trax fatty

Literally just got off the phone ordering the same. Not sure if it will fit into a 29″ fork…

Thomas George, what’s the max width of that? About 75mm?

    alexh

Nope but I can confirm that leaning a vee Trax fatty over on some slop was pretty useless.

    That purgatory looks interesting

    DrP. Wise investment.

Breathing issues? My lungs don’t appear to be near my waist, never had such issue. I can find a bit more pressure on the bladder though sometimes.

How is your fitness, Physical and mental?

I found after my off a few months ago I started to slip towards this. I think it was a mix of a lack of confidence and some weaknesses from the crash meant I didn’t enjoy my riding. I knew something was up when I was at bike park Wales, riding away from our group on my own and not really feeling motivated to ride at all, even with an uplift.

I ate better, slept better, put some work into my weaknesses and confidence. I started to enjoy it a bit more, still not where I was but I’ve found as my fitness and confidence are coming back I’m enjoying riding more and more again.

I carefully pack mine, picking soft stuff in the centre around my spine. The mini pump and tool are placed offset from my spine.

The deuter was pretty cheap when sourced from Germany. I like the fact it’s expandable with a zip. Side pockets are useful for gels/food on the go.

Jaffe, no issues with mine moving about on steep/tech. It will move a bit up and down when jumping.

The point is its lower, better cog and for me the weight is on my hips, not my spine. My back hurts on tech/steep/jumps as the bladder continually loads/unloads my spine.
