Fairly certain the creaks come from the top of the post and externally.

In fact, can sometimes tell the saddle rails are moving a touch when climbing hard, indicating the clamp is potentially rocking on the post head.

Not had the post apart yet, will look at the service instructions again.

Visiting my wife’s friend in Thailand, who’s very much into trail running.

He sets the scene, out with others, hard run, heavily wooded area, spots a moped tyre futher up the path on outskirts of a village. Mutters about someone dumping it, gets to within a handful of meters intending to clear it away. The head of a King cobra pops up to say hello.

    Shudder.

Should be able to swap that out, the fridge will probably need to sit forwards of the larder by a few cm and work out which side the filler panel should go so the door can open properly (check if the new one’s door has to open Past 90 deg to remove shelves).

We’ve just put a integrated larder fridge in with freezer elsewhere as the internal space just wasn’t enough for us either.

Many thanks for the info, will get hold of one as doing ‘by eye’ has been a touch challenging at times.

On the mounts, just the battery powered one it came with, looks identical to the one listed on the rother Valley site. It’ll track in a simplistic fashion, only if the alignment is correct. Definitely still learning.

I’d love a fully motorised and programable one, but probably need to develop core abilities first.

Really enjoying this thread, always had a strong interest in the night sky and last year unexpectedly received a birthday Skywatcher 130m.

Also have a 50D to mount on it.

Very much still getting to grips with alignment, tracking and focus etc. Hope to move on from the moon and planets this year.

    Thanks for the inspiration.

Pretty sure you’re supposed to support their bottom and upper legs together for a while, to look after developing hips, Al la the baby born. We used this till 9 months ish, then went Osprey after trying loads. Carried ours up to nearly 3 iirc. No other felt as comfortable on the back and could easily spend a day walking in the mountains, if our kid felt inclined to sit / sleep.

Great to be able to stand it up when off your back and the top model had practical features and storage that were well worth the cost for us.

Keep it relatively clean and you’d sell it on for a decent % of the purchase price too.

Thanks all, we’ve used Sally’s a number of times in the past but for larger numbers we’re much more limited, agree they’ve been very good.

It’s less the case of not finding anything, more the right property in the right location. Realise we might be looking for the proverbial on a stick though.

Definately next year and yes it has to be in the lakes. The main host is Cumbrian and grew up on hills and dales of the park.

Sure you’re not confusing waist with thigh?

That’s where I’m at and have only been getting decent time on them bike for a month or so. Jeans are a PITA and I curse the current skinny chino type fashion.

Yes, that’s him. He remembered my frame from the first time around.

He has, or did when I visited, a painting workshop upstairs and can take you through options. One key point for me was today’s paint isnt as durable as those my frame was originally finished in. So went for a metallic gloss powder coat finish via a another Co. given the frame would continue to be used heavily.

He replaced the TT on my CR Dogs Bolx a few years ago after a high speed brake lever / frame interface. When it was refinished, couldn’t tell it’d been done.

Would go back if broke it again.

Guilty also, but the they still don’t fit. Any obvious brands to look for.

I’m well out if practice, last clothes I bought must gave been in 2019!

Just replaced a number of doors with Oak veneer, but sought out ones with 18mm lippngs all round (most are circa 9mm) with solid chipboard and ply core. Seemingly easy to hang, chippy had five done in the day, with hardware.

You can tell they’re veneer but with a couple of coats of Osmo Poly X, they look really rather good.

We were also advised against sold wood doors, as opossed to solid contruction, good chance of warping / splitting.

Worth using Star R if you’ve got good examples. Review and learning from the results and activity. Continuous improvement. Also, depending on the area or type of business the roles is for, things like leadership, mentoring, staff development are significant components too if its managing role.

    Good luck.

That’s it reverse thread drive side and a hex in the axel disc side.

It’s the drive side cap that’s loose, how do I lock it/ the axel off at the right pre load. On the disc side, the hex socket is behind the cap that side. How do I shift that?

    Cheers.

Generally I walk away from films without much of a legacy. The only one that’s really stuck with me is Requiem for a Dream, dir. Darren Aronofsky

Thought it was superb but took a while to get that out of my head and doubt I’ll watch it again.

A singular example but last year I moved on from using a 20 year old Chris King ISO disk front hub. I’ve no idea how many 10k’s worth of off road miles it has on it, but it’ll be a fair bit. It’s never been serviced, lubed or maintained in any way (a part from the odd new rim) and is still running tight and smooth. Most impressed.

I’m local and spreading the news. There’s been regular thefts around the town in the last few months. On more than several occasions, two or three hooded figures simply walking down a street in the small hours and trying every garage or shed door they could get to. Brazen.

Really good to see some results, whether the actual thefts were from there or elsewhere. Hope the kit is all reunited successfully.

Thanks all, will have another look at the saddle hight later. I’d taken it from the Soul, which I’m very comfortable on.

Ta, saddle is about a far back as it can reasonably go and it’s an inline dropper.

Not to derail, but heading to FOD on Monday with friends. What would be the go to trails for a day’s riding? XC only and been about 8 years since the last trip.

    Thanks!

Cheers, running approx 25 both ends. Tend not to go lower as I’m on the heavy side. Higher and I found they lost grip much easier on the firm stuff.

Had many good results with using spicy dry rubs, cooking sealed for 2 – 3 hrs in a low oven then bbq, basting with a sticky bbq sauce. Don’t forget to take off the membrane on the bone side.

Instead of the Fairy pools, how about a swim in Lock Courisk? Near deserted when I’ve been, very dramatic surroundings. Stunning. Boat from Egol.

Also recommended Neist, the Quiraing, exploring Sleat peninsula especially, very different and quieter quite a few estate tracks and roads heading over the west side iirc, stunning sunsets there sometimes. Lastly Kyle Rhea, very out of the way down there and think there’s gravel friendly trails along the west side, otters if you’re lucky.

Belive you can pop the Mirage drive unit out quite easily, for beaching. I must have, but can’t recall.

I’ve hired numerous double sea kayaks, both grp and poly over the years and whilst I’ve found the former faster and more responsive, we’ve pretty much got on with whatever make was being sat in at the time.

If you like sit on though, it’s leftfield and spendy but check out hobie Mirage drive kayaks. Quite simply astounding, and a very different experience, but in a good way. So fast and relatively effortless.

    Mirage vs paddles

    Watch from 1min in.

Edit to add that covered about 25k in a hobie off the Dorset coast a few years ago.

Thats a shame. TBH not been there much since Tim left years ago, the heyday of the annual cricket and beer fest.

Lovely pub, hope its fortunes turn around. Till then, fingers cross the crown survives the lockdown.

This is great, appreciate all the advice. It’s not a biking holiday so I’ll be happy with a longish ride and a couple of short ones. Looks like I’ll have options for both.

What I’m really looking forward to bike wise, is the drive home after, without the family. I’m aimimg to spend the weekend in the Scottish boarders. So could be time to tick some more stanes.

Great, cheers. That’ll be good for a couple of mornings. Munro bagging will also happen, but likely on foot.

Also found there could be potential for some guided action too.

I don’t have much experience of more recent hubs but adding my vote for CK. I have some original ISO disk mtb hubs which are 15 years old or perhaps more. The rear is tired now but the front… Not a single service and 10k’s of miles off road and on. Smooth as silk still, simply astounding longevity. Never been jet washed though.

I’d be using the front again if it wasn’t qr.

We’re 18 months into Evohome use, only issue was one TRV packing up but replaced under warranty, not had to change a single battery yet.

The system just works, not had any problem with the controller or app either.

Only downside is a bit of noise from the TRVs when activating. In the day its an unobtrusive motor whirr but at night it’s more noticeable. The one in our bedroom wakes me on the odd occasion, but that’s partly my fault for having the TRV installed nearest where my head is. No one else notices.

Are you looking at the T8? If so, I think that’s a turbo and supercharged 2.0 petrol with hybrid gubbins added. We’ve looked at this but it seems to struggle to hit 30mpg once the battery is depleted. If you can get a D60 with the D or B5 engine, probably worth a look, the v90 goes very well with the D5 powerplant and the new B5 should be more efficient.

Not much to add, we went through this at our last house, a 1890 solid walled cottage. Our issues were where previous damp proofing had been done and finished with cement render inside and out. Also external ground level was 20cm higher than the floor level.

Some points to watch could be the the company doing the work/ survey, a lot of shysters and no clue companies who will take £10k’s of unsuspecting people. Also what’s your mortgage Co’s view on the damp? Our loan was on the condition of an approved contractor re mediating, which we had to evidence inside of 12 months. No DIY.

Oh and did the 25 year work guarantee get honoured by the original damp Co? Of course not, hardly anything in it to sure up the quality of their work and not transferable.

I stay in Leeds frequently. From direct and 2nd hand experience, I’d recommend avoiding both the travel lodge by the station and vicar lane. I use Jurys Inn, park plaza, doubletree or Hilton. The former is lowest cost usually, but good rates can normally be found for all, given enough advance notice. Many many other choices available though.

Evo home here, 9 rads all controlled separately. Our heating demands for each room vary day to day. Simple to install and configure. Evohome learns how long rooms take to warm up so after a day or two it just works.

Now only heat the office 9-5 and other rooms as we need and not the whole house.

Easy to expand when we add new rooms next year and we get away with not balancing rads to the same degree.

Estimated savings on gas are 20% – 30%. It’ll pay for itself, depending on use.

The Spectral looks good, but more a leap of faith as buying untried, plus has sort of discounted it due to press fit bb.
