8 foolish souls on a recent stag do chose ride the Coastal route from the Lochranza distillery in Arran to Corrie and 1 guy had 32 ticks removed from some rather unsightly places by what he described as a rather hot Swiss nurse! So maybe there is an upshot to getting bitten by the wee critters.

Mine is just shy of 30lb (XL) with Deore chainset, Avid Juicy 3s, Fox Float R (never had any problems with it here and always felt good), Fox TALAS 32, Thomson stem and post, Mavic Crossmax Enduro wheelset. Could probably go a wee bit lighter but that sort of stuff doesn't interest me.

If I was buying again I would probably spend the extra £130 for the RP23 then the bike would be future proofed if you know what I mean, £130 spent now is £170 saved later on when you've got an itchy mouse finger.

You may be able to pick up a nice Toyota Yaris for that price, the 1.4d4-d engine is great and will easily do 50+, or

That's a shopping car, not one for a long drive

I thought I would agree with that but a mate in the club has got a 5 door one and with a rack on the back it took three bikes (with front wheels off), 3 lots of kit for a ride and 3 front wheels in the boot with one seat folded down and me in the back (I'm 6'5") and the other two are around 6'. Really comfortable journey (around 150miles all in), not noisy, I was well impressed.

    Cheers everyone.

Lots of small retailers can also take the Halfords voucher, so that should widen your choice.

Anyone know if there is a list of smaller retailers where you can use the voucher?

You get a special number from them and give them a call and you should be laughing.

Is it just a case of going or calling a Halfords store to get the special number from them?

A pal of mine has got a custom built Ti 29er IF and it certainly is a good looking bike and he loves it. I think it is his 2nd or 3rd one as well. I think his username is hamc on here but I don't think he is on here much.

I've been using a Merida Speeder T2 (£570) for my daily commute and it hasn't missed a beat. I don't know if they do disc brakes though. Maybe their s-presso range does though.

I've been using Altura Orkneys for the past year or so and have no complaints. They are very solid on the bike and very well made.

I would have thought a few trips to the physio will not only help with the problem in the short term but also in the long term due to various stretches, strength and conditioning work you should be doing on a daily basis.

If the person that is going to ue your car have got insurance themselves they can say they have been given a courtesy car whilst their car is off the road for a couple of days and this should provide full cover for no cost.*

    * NB: I have not done this but my mum has and she says her insurance company did not ask where or who the car came from.

Zedsdead – Not sure if we are specifically looking for draughtsman but we are very busy in the DO and could do with some more people http://www.clydeunion.com in Cathcart. My email address is in my profile if you want direct contacts in the Engineering office and also HR.

Green wood furniture making course or something similar. Would love to do this myself. Monty Dawn did a crafts show on the bbc recently and this featured.

To be honest I don't think it has been well 'cellared'. In saying that I ve opened 3 bottles and according to the people who have drunk it said it was amazing.

Mackem – give me your address and I'll send one on FOC

I have 8 bottles of 1977 Taylor's Vintage Port. You can get it from KWM online for 89.99 so ideally looking for 80 quid plus postage but willing to listen to sensible offers if someone is interested in the whole lot. Live in Glasgow.

Email address is in my profile if anyone wants photos etc. as I can't post them here.

    Cheers

Thanks d0ugal. What about this deal form Harpers for a 190XDB with a 390RC2 head for £89.99?

Okay. d0ugal camera is a Canon EOS 500D. The lenses he has are Canon EFS 18-55mm and Canon Zoom Lens EF 70-300mm 1:4-5.6. Weight will probably reasonably important. Packed height shoud be small enough to be strapped to a rucksack and max height I have no idea really and am open to suggestions.

Would probably prefer separate heads and legs as for what type of head what would you recommend for general use and a beginner?

    Cheers

Also worth looking at Sulzer Pumps (East Kilbride), Howdens Compressors (Glasgow), Rolls-Royce (East Kilbride), Atkins Global to name a few. Weir Engineering Services (I could find out a contact here I reckon as well)

Wife is pharmacist with two siblings that are celiacs and is suggesting the following:

Patient UK – very reliable Pharmaceutical Society backed site for reliable info. All gluten free breads, pastas etc are prescribable on the NHS and can be obtained FOC on the NHS if you're GP writes the prescription. If the GP is not helpful you're local pharmacist should be, try an independent pharmacy as opposed to a chain e.g Alliance/Lloyds as they will have more time to go through the issues with you nd will have more patience.

She says it is a totally manageable condition but it can take up to 3 months to see the benefit of sticking to the strict diet of no gluten. If you need anymore info or have more detailed questions please email me (addy in profile) and my wife will answer them.

    Cheers

Rickmeister – I work as a Mechanical Design Engineer at Clyde Union Pumps in Glasgow and I know they take on students during the summer but definitely worth a try for an extended period like you're talking about. Let me know if you're keen and I'll see what I can do.
