Is it OK to use duck fat for birds?

    No. See here.

I use lard, oats, raisins and bird nuts and the starlings, tits, wagtails, blackbirds, thrushes, robins and dunnocks love them.

What about a really hearty fish pie with crusty white bread. Would love that instead of the roast dinner!

Just a wee bump for this thread…nice to see them in the garden!

Some good info on what is good to feed the birds on the RSPB site.

Been making the fat balls at home with lard, raisins, bird nuts, porridge oats, cheese and they seem to be going down well. If you’ve got kids could be worth a wee making and doing session when they have finished playing the snow. We’ve had wagtails, robins, blue tits, chaffinches, blackbirds, song thrushes, dunnocks. Its got to be said the wagtail is a wee bully :-)

I can only suggest taking your own cake in future. Mrs Mmmm bakes better than they do anyway. I found the staff in the bike shop and the cafe rude every time I went there.

    Totally agree with this.

Don’t think it will let me buy direct as I am in Ireland as it goes direct to the eu store which only offers online partner stores!?

Potential stupid question. Are you guys buying directly from the site or are you going to the partners website (snow+rock, ellis brigham)? If you are buying direct how?

Father in law has a very cheap bird table…6ft length of 2″x4″ with an old biscuit tin lid nailed to the top!

Just put some seeds out rolled in last weeks grill pan fat contents.

A similar thing happened to my sister and her husband when my sister became pregnant. The dog (welsh terrier called Taffy) was starting to act just as you describe above and was treated with the same amount of care as you describe above. they took the decision to re home him through the breeders club (I think) and although they were very upset at letting him go they were happy he was being re homed to someone who has experience with the breed and would give him the life he deserved. You’re definitely doing the right thing IMO if that helps.

Last I heard the owners had set up a website for the dogs…

Fair enough but there was still enough talent there to beat a side of Fiji’s calibre at home…

    3. And this should maybe be number 1, welsh players were blown away at the breakdown, they werent against Aus or SA so I can only assume it was a combination of lack of interest and some shite back up players.

    Wales starting pack last night…

    James – 15 caps
    Bennet – 36 caps
    Jones – 66 caps
    Gough – 63 caps
    Jones – 12 caps
    Jones – 44 caps
    Lydiate – 1st cap?
    Thomas – 60 caps

Then you bring on shanklin, jonesx2, phillips with 30 minutes to go. These guys should have had solid instructions from the bench and executed them, this didn’t happen.

I don’t profess to know an awful lot about welsh rugby but to me the list above does not seem to be a pack made up of back up players. If anything Lydiate was the only true back up player in the side and he was very good from what I saw of the match. I also refuse to believe that any rugby player would have a lack of interest for an international match.

As some have said the lack of ideas in attack and a poor platform from set piece were the main reasons for the defeat as well as a lot of guts and hard rugby from the Fijians.

Another vote for a Dirtworker, got mine earlier this year after many years of using a pump up garden sprayer. Enough water for a couple of bikes and just the right of power to get rid of mud without blasting everything away.

I think its Insurance Group 9 – http://www.parkers.co.uk is a good site for this kind of info. I’ve had 3 Golfs, 2×1.4L and 1×1.6L 1998 MkIV – I’d definitely buy a Mk IV again, great car, reliable, spacious, comfy etc. Yes the 1.4L will be a bit on the slow side if you’ve got a heavy load or carrying a few folk but if that’s not going to bother you then go for it. I can’t speak for Japanese but the Toyota/nissan equivalent could be worth a shout.

I reckon there is no way that the press will make it in as hand luggage as it could be deemed as a weapon. I’ve tried to get to bike stuff in as hand luggage but failed for the above reasons.

I’ve got an old Carlton Audax in my Grandpa’s garage which did me the ride to work until a woman t boned me. The front wheel, handle bars and fork got mangled and have never taken the frame in to get a proper assessment to see if I could get it rebuilt. Only cost me £40 as well, nice bike though!

The old man has got a place in Lanza just outside Playa Blanca (shameless plug: its available for rent – PM if you’re interested).
Myself and the wife normally go in October and the weather has been excellent in the past. Some good restaurants in and around Playa Blanca and a we find it a good place to go for total peace and quiet. You are obviously going to get some aspects of the british holidaymakers like bars/shops but these can be avoided if you know where to go.

Surf-Mat, I might be going to Lanzarote next Easter, is it worth taking a roadbike?

Not cycled there myself but the roads are pristine and always see plenty of riders. I reckon it would probably be the best way to see the island – it can be very windy so into a head wind could be brutal!
