Apologies for thread hijack/addition! Thinking about a large phev but am cautious given usage and open to advice…

3 days a week round trip commute 41miles on A type roads

rest of the week it’s multiple short 5 to 12 mile round trips to kids school etc plus weekend round trips of 22 miles – 50miles on  A roads.

Currently have a diesel Audi A3 and looking at Skoda Superb iv/Passat GTE/Hyundai Tucson. Legroom and boot space crucial.

How much cheaper is it than something with 40/50k on the clock?

I’ve bought high mileage cars but the price has reflected that.

    about €4-6000 https://www.carzone.ie/used-cars/skoda/superb/fpa/3542110?journey=Search

andy I’ve imported 4 times and it worked out really well  the vat and customs is a killer

    Jeeziz, you’re not wrong!

But the milage wouldn’t worry me.

aye we can thank VRT/VAT/Customs Duty for that.

It’s in Ireland so it’s way more expensive than uk

Has anyone compared the legroom (front and back) between Passat estate and Superb estate? I’m looking at both and wondering if there is all that much in it. Rear legroom wise it would be for lugging kids under 12 around.
I’m 6’5” and had a saloon Passat (2013version) before and didn’t have the seat all the way back.

No issue with getting a taxi from Kerry Airport to Killarney. 15 minute journey. Could hire bikes with locks and cycle from town to starting point for walks or just get taxi.

For those looking into the stena line ferry you can trade in Tesco club card points for 3x value against ferry bookings up to a max value. Liverpool Belfast is not included I don’t think.

there’s a good wee book about walks on the peninsulas down here in Kerry The Dingle, Iveragh & Beara Peninsulas: A Walking Guide (Walking Guides) https://amzn.eu/d/3C5OqAy

Personally I’d avoid Killarney town as it’s very touristy with loads of new balance wearing Americans in peak seasons.

for mtbing maybe search for Tralee Bay MTB club.

I’ve used Joint-It brush in grout on our patio and it seems to be good stuff and easy to apply.

I’m getting logged out then when I want to reply to a topic I have to login and then go to the main menu to get to the form and try and find the topic I was going to reply to. It’s painful. Why can’t you login and it automatically redirects you to the post you were in? iPhone X by the way

Just had my 4th knee surgery at the beginning of November which is the last throw of the dice before knee replacement. Had 2 goes at steroids previously but they didn’t help all that much. Had a hyaluronic injection with steroid 3 weeks ago and early signs are positive. Post exercise pain seems to have lessened and day to day a bit better too. Swelling still prevalent but hopefully that will subside. I’m 42 by the way.
If I was you I’d get it replaced and do a good rehab and enjoy the new knee. You can deal with the revision surgery when you’re in your mid sixties. I’ve had the same as you in terms of pain for the last 25 years and it grates at you.

If he wants to get better then lessons with local pga professional – you don’t necessarily have to be a member to get a lesson from the local pro. Or nearest range with an affiliated professional. If he’s a beginner then short game lessons will be more beneficial I would imagine.

You can get some nice golf clothing from online stores like snainton, clubhouse golf, function18 etc. 1/4 zips, gilets/vests etc. sports pursuit sometimes have good deals on golf brands but delivery time might be an issue.

I’ve used lees tees for personalised tees in the past as a joke/stocking filler. Last I used them they were good quality. You could put together a pack of stuff like winter mitts, rain gloves, decent golf/merino socks.

Turns out the one mentioned above didn’t fit due to slightly different pin design. However I have a 7.5v 0.5A adapter which fits – any issues with that?

Thanks folks. I’ve been to the optician and ophthalmologist who are both slightly concerned about the length of time for the blurred vision to disappear. I’ve an extremely small scar but otherwise cornea is good apparently. Pretty anxious about it to be honest but nothing I can do except keep up the lubrication drops and also the ointment at night which is like Vaseline

This happened to us and I’ve tried to delete it from my memory bank. Happened just before my son was born so cute a very unhappy and cold wife for a week or so. Ours leaked in multiple spots which led to us replacing all ground floor pipe work. Given the routing overground options were very limited so cue water cooled concrete cutting inside the house. The vision of someone hosing down your walls is not something I wish to repeat. Insurance covered detection and replacement floor in one room but not the plumbing work itself. Since installation the heating has worked perfectly. Good luck!

Aye the battery connects inside a toy and was supplied with a usb lead with a connection to the battery to charge it. It isn’t designed to charge the battery through the device.

Apeirogon by Colum McCann – really enjoyed it despite the fairly harrowing subject matter. The cadence was good but it did leave a few unanswered questions but maybe that was the point.

Avid are DOT based so I’d do a full flush and refresh.
You’ll be able to tell when all the old fluid is flushed through as after 7 years it will be a dirty brown colour and the new fluid will be pale yellowy and clear. Whether the seals will be OK is a different question but worth a try before investigating other options.

Thanks Alan. Stupid question but in order to flush the system should I just fill syringe at calliper end with new fluid and have an empty syringe draining into a container to purge out the old fluid then do the full bleed procedure?

Thanks superficial. It’s a 07 Santa Cruz Heckler. At a minimum I was going to bleed the brakes as per the above. I need to lube the pistons and have found folk saying use the same brake fluid or use silicone grease (applying with a q tip) – any guidance for me here as to which to use would be good?
Forks wise I don’t have a lot of time in terms of getting the gear to replace the seals etc but I could change the oil if the stuff can be got from the local Halfords.

In terms of taking it easy – I will be given I haven’t ridden for years and years! Thanks for the offer of the mechanic but I’m in Ireland.

Thanks Wibble. Thought I had it fixed last night but the same thing happened this evening – I stuck my head up to the attic and the tank is filling but it does sound like the tank was nearly empty.

Aye colp I thought that but why would that stop hot water flowing to the kitchen and other bathrooms? The only time the pump kicks in is if the shower is turned on upstairs?

Oakley Holbrook Metal here and I really like them although and Oakley customer service in my experience is outstanding. Scratched lenses within warranty have been replaced. I’ve also had Bolle glasses and these were excellent too but they fell out of my car door dooket somewhere and I lost them.

Where is the best place to buy frames only?

Thanks for the information. Going to go with stripping 4″ off the top, adding a 4″layer of crushed stone as sub-base & compact, membrane and then add gravel on top. Will edge where required with gravel board.

Just started making my starter to give Sourdough a try.

First question, with the starter, I expected it to be runnier than it is (it’s currently on day 2, and will get it’s day 3 feed later)

Does it get runnier later on the process?

Depends on the flour as different flours can absorb different amounts of flour. I’ve a rye starter which is a lot stiffer than my other white/whole meal starter.

If you’re on Instagram check out memoirsofabaker or sourdoughtim for tips.
