TJ – in regards to helmets ‘failing’… do you think Giro will accept my split E2 back under warranty? I hit a tree headfirst going at a fair lick on a downhill section at CyB. The helmet cracked pretty much straight through down the middle (I was was fine though). Is it worth a punt?

Steve B @ Real Cycles is the leading authority on all things Commencal. I’ll bet you £10 he’ll know. Really friendly and helpful – give him a bell:

Fox hunting is cruel and unecessary – I much prefer a shotgun 😉

Nope that’s the common mistake! Most people presume it should come with hoziontal dropouts. It was designed with vertical droputs and a chain tensioner for ease of dropping the back wheel out/repairing punctures – it being pitched at commuters afterall. Road.cc have recently just taken delivery of one for review – I’d stay tuned to see what they think of it.

Spot on thisisnotaspoon – the ‘s’ refers to season. MBR reviewed the S9’s (2009) model. They’re a cracking glove for the money

To be fair if newspaper speculation is anything to go by the head huntsman had complained to the police about the gyrocopter following and harassing them for the previous 2 weeks. I think the loopy liberals hunt sabatoeurs flying the thing should by locked up for life. Send out a stern message to them that there are better ways to get your message across than to threaten people’s lives!

    Apologies Geoff, you’re 100% right. The 07/08 frame only was 725 – it’s switched to 520 for 09. Sorry

Geoffj – the frame only option has always been Reynolds 725 whilst the complete bike uses 520 (to keep costs down). If you’ve seen a 520 tubed frame-only option for sale somewhere – it’s definately the remnants a stripped complete bike.

Glue? This is a joke right? All of the bodge welded S/S freewheels I’ve seen have eventually let go. Glue/Araldite/Plastic metal will in no way be strong enough to hold up a freewheel as fixed hub. Ever tried to remove a fixed sproket from a resonable rider’s bike? The force needed to remove will be a good indication of what it’ll need to hold.

Keith & Jos over @ Tour de Ville in Hackney are pretty niffty with a spanner (if it’s a road bike). Very reasonable prices too http://www.tourdeville.co.uk

    Re ernie_lynch:

I certainly feel the ads are intimidating (no doubt this is their intention) and yes, I felt quite tempted to see if their super-dooper technology actually works. That’s my opinion, yours might be different but this is a forum to express your personal viewpoint, no?

By heck aren’t the the people of STW a bunch of morally upholding citizens!

Let’s face it people are only giving hostile replies because because they only wish they’d been able to get away for it so long too!

The “We know where you live and have the technolgy to get you…blah, blah, blah” adverts they run on TV are pretty intimidating. TBH they piss me off and I’ve often considered not renewing my license to put them to the test (don’t worry I’m all paid up – call off the dogs!) I say it’s a person’s individual choice as to whether they wish to pay the license fee or not – so long as they appreciate the risks involved and take it on the nose if caught.

You can get them through your LBS via Madison. When I’m back in the office on Monday I’ll check the part number, stock and price and email it through.

I think they’ve got it pretty much spot on. They know their market well and they’ve found their niche. Just because the brand doesn’t appeal to the masses doesn’t mean it’s failing. Just have a look around London and the amount of Charge S/S bikes doing the rounds. For many it’s a percieved cool way to follow the latest fashion trend and get into biking. More people on bikes can’t be a bad thing can it?

Today’s Charge riders might be the On-One, Cotic, Dialled Bikes rider of the future – you never know!
