Nice build. I didn't find the radial laced front Halo wheel all that stiff – see how you get on with it. Great hubs though those Token jobbies, very tough.

Hi Guys, congratulations on winning the DVD's. They came from me @ Madison via Shimano North America. They're signed by all the Shimano sponsored riders that either featured or helped out in the film…

    – Andrew Shandro, Wade Simmonds, Cam McCaul, Matt Hunter and Thomas Vanderham.

    Enjoy!

Mmmm, well when I have a positive experience of the police perhaps I'll change my mind. And, no, I've never been arrested nor have a criminal record. I'm sure there are plenty of good coppers, just seems that the ones I've come into contact with are ego maniacs on a power trip.

Coppers are just the kids at school that were either:

    a) bullied
    b) grasses to the teachers
    c) crap with girls

    or

    d) all of the above

Not at all I shouldn't think. 2010 Super4's (which the Meta4 was based on) come with 120mm forks stock (increased from 100mm last year). I'd say you'll be fine.

Re: the chain tensioner on the Ridgeback Flight 04 – makes dropping the back wheel out for punctures, etc a whole, whole lot easier than if the frame had horizontal dropouts and no chain tensioner.

Before you write it off it's always worth a phonecall to Madison customer care (UK importers). You never know what they might be able to do for you.
They're top people and shoudl be able to help.

Nowt to do with raw materials prices – it's all to do with the strength of the pound and an import-dependent economy.

As Ziggy said…all Shimano paired & boxed shifters (both road and mtb)should could with cables and sections of outer. If it's OEM you'll be lucky enough to get a clear platic bag!

    Yesterday's news I'm afraid:

I agree that they're pretty bland. If white's you're colour I guess you'll be happy

Hi Stato, you're correct in that the HTII crankarms are forged and not cast. This process is pretty complex and Shimano aren't too keen on digressing too much info on how exactly they're made (although information on the patent is readily available for all to see on the internet).

It goes without saying that Shimano are world leaders in drop forged technology and have one of the highest QC levels in the industry. Rest assured the marks on the crankarms do not affect in any way the structural integrity of the crank – they're merely an unsightly byproduct of the manufacturing process.

Hi everyone, Albert from Madison here.

Understandably some of you are concerned about what might appear to be cracks at the tips of your crankarms just below the pedal inserts.

This was brought to Shimano's attention some time ago and upon further investigation they were identified as forging marks (Stato's hit the nail on the head with his explaination). This is why so many of you will have discovered them upon further investigation.

Rest assured these marks do not in any way affect the performance or durability of the cranks/chainsets and to date no cranks have been returned to us with actual cracks at the end of the crank arm.

    Thanks
    Albert

Yep essentially an alloy verson of the Jones bar (under license from Mr Jones to the folks @ Titec). Come in a riser version (H-Bar) or coventional flatbar (J-Bar)…

J-Bars are landing in the UK very soon! Hope this helps

2010 Altitude 853 frames are landing towards the end of Oct (£399.99srp).

Same cherry red colour as this year's Alt30.

James-O will probably be along soon to give you the lowdown on the clearance on a 50mm chainline.

Word of warning… Virgin Trains are by in far the least bike friendly of any of the UK train companies I've been unfortunate to use. Sort it out Mr. Branson! The rigmoral you've got to go through to get the bike checked on the train is a joke – you've got to have booked your bike on the train before the train has left it's home station (even if there's no other bikes on or booked on the same train). Madness

Awesome frame the Altitude (both the Reynolds 520 and 853 versions). You'll enjoy that! 🙂

The older Saint style CL rotors use a larger a diameter spline – which was only used on the old Saint M800 hubs (and a few others – On-One). All the new/current Shimano 15mm/20mm use the same diameter style now.

Sounds like you need one of the newish direct-fit Shimano front mechs as opposed to whipping the BB mount off an E-Type. Lapierre use the same front mechs on some of their models and I'll bet that's what you need for the Genius too. They're available in SLX and XT:

Madison's Light & Motion warranty/service is really, really good. They carry a whole host of spares. If I was you I'd both try and get them returned to Madison via your friendly LBS. There's a good chance they'll get refurbed and returned to you as good as new.

Yep, Smudge is right we'll accept crashed Bell/Giro helmets back for the subsidised crash replacement schemes we offer direct from the general public but anything else has to come via a dealer. We have a system which logs returns (we issue a returns number to the dealer to accompany the product) and ensures that the item doesn't get lost and we can check it's status at any given time.

I'll second that! the 853 Genesis Altiude frame makes for an awesome ride. Personally not tried the Ti but spoken to some how have and they've only got high praise for it. There should be a review in next month's MBUK by Guy Kesteven and I think in the Singletrack's issue after next as they've got a 17.5" frame built up for testing at the moment.

    Hope this helps

For the month of June there’s an offer on the new Giro glasses – buy any Giro helmet and get any item of eyewear at half price (at participating Giro eyewear dealers). Pretty good deal if you’re in the market for new lid and glasses. You could even stash the helmet away until needed to take advantage of the cheap glasses. Some of the glasses come with Zeiss lenses etc so quality-wise they’re some of the best around.

I’ve said it a million times before and I’ll say it again ‘coppers are good for **** all’

Coppers are just the kids at school that were either:

    a) bullied
    b) grasses to the teachers
    c) crap with girls

    or

    d) all of the above

Bathroom sink + warm water + clothing handwash powder. Give the straps a good scrub then rinse well and dry. Should be as good as new.

In my short life, all the dealings (no, I’m not a crim) I’ve had with the police have lead me to believe that coppers are good for **** all.

Phil Corley Cycles are in Milton Keynes and they’re a pretty big Trek dealer (if they share some of the Kona mech hangers). It’s probably worth a try. Ask for Paul in the workshop – nice guy and knows his stuff!

    Hi Tim,

Dave Atkinson @ road.cc has had a 60cm Flight04 on test for the past 4 weeks or so. I think they’re planning to put the review up in the next week or so but if you’re desperate to find out what it’s like you might want to drop him an email in the contact section on the site. Hope this helps!
