Rip someones wing mirror off or damage a car and you’ve suddenly changed the dynamics of the whole situation

I agree. Shouting is one thing, but the second you make it physical you are immediately stepping it up a level. It’s also criminal damage and it’s impossible to argue that your actions justified this response.

I too love Rab stuff. I have an eVent ultralight jacket and a softshell. The cut is excellent and they’re both very well made.

richc – I completely agree on the Devil’s Staircase, although I find it best to combine it with a section of the West Highland Way so you can get a train back and avoid the boring road ride from Kinlochleven.

Just on the commute today for me, but it was ace. The morning was pretty pishy, but the return was fun especially because I was faster than every car, especially those that gave up on the steep hill on the way home.

Proof, if ever any is needed, that the singlespeed is mightier than the car.

SS MTB (3″ to 5″) gets used mostly for the commute with the occasional offroad blasts.

Enduro gets used every couple of weeks or so, it’s difficult as I don’t store it at my house so have to arrange uplift of it when I need it.

I can still justify another bike, perhaps make the SS rigid and get a smaller chuckable bike or a heavy hardtail. I just can’t afford it at the moment.

The thing with Goretex shoes is that once the water gets in, it’ll stay in unless there are drain holes. If there are drain holes, it kinda defeats the point of a waterproof shoe.

Strip it for parts, I reckon you’d probably get more that way.

I can’t remember who makes them, but I got a set from Edinburgh Bikes a while back for a fiver.

Does it matter if they’re shiny if they’re hidden by the stem clamp??

    Pearl Necklace?

One of my mates gave his mum one of them. Oh how we laughed at his failure to grasp urban lingo :D

I used a Stanley blade, then an old penknife that could be sacrified, and finally a screwdriver. It’s an annoying job that requires patience.

My other headset has a split race, far far easier.

I use a 4 x 5m tarp in the back of my car. Line the inside of the car with it, chuck the frame in, then fold more tarp on top, put the wheels in, then the final bit of tarp on the top to cover over the bike for when you’ve stopped somewhere. Under a fiver, and far quicker and easier to use than the 70 quid boot rack that’s gathering dust.

Consider a Wingnut. There was a frankly fantastic post from a guy that did a tour of Scotland with one, and it seemed sufficient for his needs.

Personally I use a Vaude pack re-badged as Edinburgh Bikes, it fits 25 to 30l I believe but unfortunately there’s no webbing for kit to be lashed to.

Need – main bearing for my Enduro
Want – new front mech so I don’t have to keep kicking it to downshift

Golspie is a definite must, it’s amazing. It’s a simple up and down, but the climb is really good fun and not in the least bit steep until you hit the top section. The down is amazing, 7k from top to bottom.

Laggan too, pushes the boundaries of trail centre grading.

How about the Fort William DH and World Cup Trails? DH is really good fun and long, and the World Cup and 10 under the Ben loops are good fun and worth it especially if you’re in the area.

Deore. Steel cheapness that lasts forever.

You can get bashrings for use with outers too.

Out on Sunday, mates rear hanger snapped off. Helped tow (on two inner tubes)and push him home.

    Great idea!

The bearing in the main pivot on my bike looks like it’s in the process of curling up to die, unfortunately I’m yet to fix it. It’ll probably be a Loctite and grease bodge until I get the time to replace it.
