The clutch in the mech puts more tension on the cable, thus limiting movement in the mech.

This in turn, sadly makes them harder to shift, therefore im sticking with a standard one.

Shame really, as it’s a great idea.

Well I have a 9 speed chain in the shed, but wondered if it would be strong enough + would it be wide enough to run on a Single Speed cog at the back?

    Hello again,

Now decided to go single speed, using a DMR kit.

My lbs said they have a 122.5mm bb – think im gonna go for that.

Doubt it’d make a difference now due to being able to space the rear cog out with spacers.

    Cheers,

    Alan.

Depends on the weight of your bike aswell I guess……

I run 34T chainring / 11-36 cassette on my 29er hardtail and find the range spot on for trail centre duties.

    If I had a FS – think I’d drop to a 32T.

Depends on what u use the bike for…….

    I ran 1 x 9 for 4 years, changed to 1 x 10 when I built my latest steed (Cotic Solaris)

I use my bike mainly for trail centre duties and it is perfect, nice spread of gears.

Running 34T chainring with 11-36 cassette.

Bare in mind u will need some sort of chain device.

I have a Pauls chain keeper:
