in my defence, it doesn’t seem unfeasible for a thin rod of metal (chinesium metal) with a small diameter thread on it to suffer some stretch when subjected to loading from both the QR mechanism and the hammering it could potentially take. It would only take a fraction of a mm over 100mm to then appear to be loose.

Thanks for the input, i’ve ordered a set of the Halo Hex’s up as i prefer the idea of that to a traditional QR

My Boardman is the same, i don’t think its an issue, you could wrap a little electrical tape around the hose there perhaps

Always used Skyscanner myself as that made it easy to adjust my schedule to suit the best deals/airports, ie searching for all london airports withing a time range to a location

is there any differential between the front and rear wheels?  if not i could actually see a loss in front wheel grip when diving into corners…

If you are keeping a regular bike that can do the lighter stuff… just go full fat.. it’ll be cheaper, bigger battery, more support…

If its a one bike for all, then id say lightweight

you might be on to something there
i havent had issues riding padless on a standard MTB ride up and down, but soon into it started wearing liner under shorts
I find that 40 odd miles in on gravel type rides stuff starts to get a little raw.. might be caused by the liner + moisture.. only tried cream the once so hard to say if it is the solution for me, also don’t want to be 20 miles from home to find out i do need a pad

yup pootling around with heavy tyres, heavy bike on trails or surfaces that are more efficient on a lighter built bike. Same for minor obstacles, that on a lighter bike may require some rider input, but on a burlier bike can just be steamrolled.

The same can be said about climbs, why waste the additional energy getting a bike to the top of the hill if you don’t need that much bike to get back down it and enjoy it.

A couple of mates take their MTBS out on road rides, I couldn’t imagine anything worse, prime example of being overbiked. a gravel or road bike will be faster, zipper and generally more fun in that situation while using less energy.

Now some of this might be moot depending on what you get out of riding. I ride for two reasons, the exercise and the technical challenge (it’s like a computer game to me), yes i want to get down the trail and get a PR, but if that was my primary driver i would be riding something like an Orbea Wild on super gnarly tyres everywhere.

your foot not resting on a platform?

that was my first put off with SPDS, then i got on board with some dmr vtwins and have just started getting used to some nukeproof clipless i picked up

both pedals my shoe is engaged on the platform as well as the spd

And crank brothers mechanism is proprietary to them

lots of people love time from what i understand

different bike to what i saw the other day, maybe that was a training bike, and clearly not clipped in anymore

    i listen to the show

she basically hasn’t ridden a bike on the road until a few weeks ago

for some reason they opted to get her clipped in….

and the pics of said bike looks to be a very basic commuter spec bike

    but yes, massively slow going

I cant fit 27.5″ wheels on my Sonder Signal (29) due to the shape of the chain stay yoke wrapping around the tyre at its 29″ size, a 27.5″ wheel physically wouldn’t fit unless i fitted a super skinny tyre, might be something to look out for

I’ll argue for the top fuel again, the 9.7 model i mentioned is on sale for £2800 around here in the UK, no idea what European prices run like.

the bikes the OP mentioned seem to show up at 4-5k (the Top Fuels RRP is about 4100 IIRC) so i wouldn’t be looking at spec comparisons, you’d have 1500-2000 to spend on any tweaks you deemed necessary, but the only differences i could see where higher spec shocks and forks (well some of them were StepCast so if weight is important to you…..) Drivetrain and brakes seemed approx the same, the stock trek wheels are pretty nice, as is the (all be it heavy)  dropper. mine, with pedals, crank fitted multitool, head tube CO2, NP carbon bars and bar end tyre plugs comes in at about 14.2kg.

    Update

    bought nice headphones

sat in current office, tried noise cancelling off and on… Brilliant.. more than happy

got into the idea of being social, friendly.. maybe even buying some tidy kit to wear at work…

    plan update

Boss now has an office on 1st floor

I’m now moved into what was his office and the main rack room/ build room/ storeroom etc… Now i feel a little lost about the whole thing.. but.. as i see it i will be in a glass box with an open door which suits me , boss being on the first floor is ridiculous, when he is in the office is when we go over stuff together… ah well

also re the hardtail to full sus thing

i jumped from my 130(140mm) hardtail 29er on 1850g wheels with slightly heavier carcass 2.6’s on to the 120/120 Top Fuel, same sort of wheel weight on trail carcass 2.4’s.

Climbing is definitely more efficient, but it’s not night and day, its the difference of finishing an 11 min fire road climb along side the guys i ride with, rather than a few hundred meters back.

I ride clipped in and there’s no difference to where I’d pedal on my hardtail or the Top Fuel, I wouldn’t be sat pedalling over rough stuff on either bike, except to perhaps unweight the saddle slightly. But any of these bikes will descend better than a 100mm hardtail, or at least give you more confidence to try.

if it had a written report from said carbon fibre specialists… maybe

but why did he take it to several specialists? why would you do that, if number one says its fine.. job done… if you go to a second you don’t trust the report of the first…

regardless, id have certainly sorted the paint out if it was just paint damage

And how does that damage happen? surely it bust be a heavy front end crash putting a load through the top tube.. if it enough to damage the paint/gel coat whatever.. then its enough to delaminate the cf underneath surely

that’s a mistake, Flux is a combined import/export tariff, you either need to go on fixed or agile export. expect a correction in the future IMHO

Look at the prices of agile during the fuel crisis, over xmas 22 into 23 ;) then you’ll see how it could be

Check your figures though, most people with solar are saying Flux is a better deal as the weather turns, luckily i think you are only tied into a 30 day contract on smart tariffs

Super impressed with the m6120;s that came on my trek, actually slightly nicer feel than the zees which I’ve always used

Always happy to have an Allen key reach adjust, i do not want tool free, i literally adjust them when new or bled, that’s the only time

so.. i have the e-mythique sat in my basket, I’m not going to… simply because i had made a promise to (myself) to get rid of stuff before buying a big ebike

they look remarkedly amazing value now… obviously, buying on the premise of no support , i would imagine the Bafang motor is easy to get support and repairs and/or replacement anyway in event of failure.
