i can vouch for the above statement

My Boardman ADV 8.9e spends most of its time beyond the limiter, where it is certainly a bit slower than my gravel bike, even “only” at 16kg.  Also as above, when weather is bad or headwinds, just sit under power and let the bike work.

I like the idea of the Ribble ebikes, just to get that weight down a little more

    Been deliberating a road bike

Merlin have entry level Felt VR bikes for cheap, i worked out it was actually pretty decent value to buy one nad upgrade if that’s your thing

Felt VR 60 Claris Road Bike 2022 – Boxed | Merlin Cycles

they have a slightly cheaper boxed version too with a Felt own crank, i went for that as ill probably grab a used tiagra hydraulic groupset

they also have Orro’s marked down, including an ex demo 105 bike in medium

    Add finally

Ribble Cycles | Leading British Cycle Manufacturer Since 1897 | Ribble Cycles

loads of good value stuff at the moment, their endurance range and allroad

luckily the bit you have fubared doesnt need removing, it does it quite successfully itself  (i thought it was left hand thread)

bad news is, the bit you do need to undo is far worse and tighter (inner hex, spec says 50 nm)

totally different ecosystems? totally different interfaces (well, some commonalities)

If i  used an Android daily, and an Ipad the rest of the time i’d be frustrated, sure you can make everything sync up nicely, think, photos, browsers, YouTube etc.. but id rather just use one ecosystem to keep everything seemless

So, is it a crossduro or uptrail bike?

Fidlock so stubby large bottles now, i’ve had good success getting a 700ml bottle wedged in my medium trek top fuel where a “normal” bottle had no hope

well, depends what you are doing on it, if you are riding loops around the woods mile from your house, you probably don’t need anything with you, if you are anywhere that would take more than 20mins to walk back pushing the bike, i’d certainly chuck the worst-case scenario kit on your bike, all my bikes have tyre plugs in the bars, co2 up the fork steerer  and a multi tool in the crank. Only time i ever take a tube is if i’m out on my gravel bike, potentially 15 miles away from home

check if the chainring is boost or not, camino is likely to not be, but the eagle could be either way

And BB, BB’s could be DUB or GXP or even BB30 IIRC

can’t remember exactly what ours is, but we are limited to 1k, halfords and tredz essentially, and i think it was worth something like a 50quid benefit to me, which after considering the restrictions, was of zero benefit. Literally only any good if i had no transport and needed something Asap on pay monthly, with bad credit history lol

i suspect that when it retuned, the strength/availability of the channels wasn’t quite there

I’d take a look to see if you can either manually tune OR look at signal strengths and adjust your antenna accordingly

well, i guess technically, humans have assisted in engineering this, just uncontrollably, although i guess that’s kinda counter engineering…

literally just bought the top pet spec vax last week, 120? quid off plus a steam cleaner..from their web site

has a spot cleaning attachment etc…

possibly over kill. but super pleased at how much my carpets came up, and all the cat hair etc that was pulled up

Is insurance still heavily influenced by engine capacity? these little engines are making as much power as the larger simpler engines, economy isn’t the biggest deal, neither is ULEZ etc, but what i do see is every modern small petrol seems to be wet belt driven and potential time bomb, i don’t dispute power output, but reliability. I’m prepared to be wrong however

Oo, the Kona looks like an ice motor, ticks the boxes

oh, she’s got a nearly new Skoda Kodiak, so shes looking to drop down to mid size car/SUV and get a bit of cash back

Yup, bought one for my nipper, the previous model

    awesome bike, not too heavy

the hub drive is a bit weird, having to keep the cadence up to get assist

pain in the butt to fit a dropper too mind, needs to be external (think the newer model is better)

tyres are a bit cross country for a bike potentially as capable in a kid’s hands

a friend of mine borrowed it, shes about 5ft 3 i think, tiny bit small for her

if you are anywhere near Portsmouth you can take a look

I actually watched the GCN video last night, and i figure there is some real world benefit, at the bare minimum it prevents me from buying a new bike :P

I should add, I’ve got the Boardman drop bar, its a little firm to ride..

Great as an ebike, plenty of power to spin out on most climbs. build is a little agricultural. not as quick on all out pedalling on roads etc as my Nukeproof Digger

Be aware though, no one want s to buy one second hand. I’ve been trying to sell mine for months, and even at a bike reseller they essentially offered me the value of the battery and nothing more

My nipper has the Mahle setup on his e mountain bike.. seems fine fro him, hasn’t got the outright torque of a mid drive setup, so its more suited to a bike that’s moving, also, you have to pedal faster than the hub to get the assist. so if you bog down without anticipating and shifting up the block and spinning, you lose your asssist. But, you get the weight saving

    performance elite? not rhythm?

rhythm is the entry fork, basic damper, heavier materials

personally, I’m looking to upgrade my rhythms on my top fuel to performance elite (curved arch), its either that or pikes that fit my bill

The Bontrager is an amazing post, i was going to buy a one up v3 but the Bonty is really quite good, granted i fitted my oneup lever

the Bonty has much less rotational play than the oneup v2, the post is also smoother and more stable? probably because of the larger diameter. I will stick with it until it dies or i win a load of money and lighten the bike unnecessarily

honestly, just ride it, you’ll see no reason to swap it out, you’ll be bale to sell your bikeyoke, you won’t sell the Bonty easily

Sorry to hijack but i was about to make a similar thread and wanted a similar opinion

Speed on my commute 10 miles in order fastest to slowest :

    Nukeproof digger RS – 45mm Schwalbe G-one

Vitus Mach 3 VR – flat bar, 2×8, aftermarket wheels and tyres – 1700g wheels, gravelking ss

Boardman ADV 8.9E – ebike, heavy, lifeless

E bike is the slowest as typically i’m riding beyond the motor, it’s for sale

I’m wondering if i sell the Boardman and Vitus, and get a sensible light set of wheels and tyres, and put them on the digger (maybe a 10t cassette too) if it would make a significant difference, for road rides/commutes, i’m not talking all out road race wheels and tyres, something that can hit a gravel track, and not puncture all the time (gravelkings i’m looking at you)

OR, put drop bars on the Vitus and more suited tyres, full guards etc, and keep that (original plan), as im convinced drop bars are quicker

I’m trying to talk myself out of looking at fast allroad carbon bikes that i don’t need and can’t afford

on my BMW’s (E39’s) i became resigned to the fact it was easier to swap the whole track rod out than try to loosen the adjuster

still takes a bloody big spanner and lever to undo it from the rack

probably easier if you can stand under the car

a mate of mine literally had to reinforce his garage, metal bars on windows etc etc, ground anchor the bike, wifi cameras everywhere and motion sensors.. absolute insanity.

I keep mine in the house, and luckily live in a dead end road so less likely to be observed by any orrible scrotes

run some blind tests, same piece of music a few times, but ask someone to change, or not change the cable every time, and note down what cable is in use

    you note down your thoughts

maybe run it 10 times and see what the results say

To add, although we buy Surfaces as our go to device

if i was in charge i probably  would still buy Lenovo, the cost/reliability is insane

The surfaces we have been buying since laptop 2? i think, a few 3’s many many 5’s and just started with the 6s when they became available, apart from theft/loss and an incident of water damage, we haven’t had any failures or issues. As of writing we have 141 in the business, i think i decommissioned a 2 or 3 the the other week, mainly because the user is a mid tier employee and had had it since new , was ideal to be upgraded. the device itself was still functioning perfectly, i’m guessing it was 4-5 years old

Ive completed my first year, for those interested:

3.9kw of panels on south roof, south of england

    10.4kw battery

myself and my son in the house, gas ch, fan of gadgets and computers

    recorded use sep23-sep24

3638 KW which i calculate would have cost me £967.35

I’m on Flux tariff and actual costs over the year -£586.79

    total saving £1554.14

This is taking advantage of energy saving sessions, free electricity etc etc, approx 7 year payback based on that calc

What does the bike manufacturer recommend? i’d check that to start with, sag is kinda related to the suspension design of the bike, if its correct id be trying a little LSC as above, if you have it on that shock

I buy the industrial stuff from an auto paint shop… you essentially have to sign a waiver to say you are a professional, but i’ve never seen anything like it, strips everything, powdercoat from car wheels etc, requires ventilation and protective clothing
