all he has done is ignore the rules to suit his own needs. We could all do that

Seems to me that ‘THE RULES’ only apply when it suits, for example, major power stations (wind farm) have been erected after failing planning, just because the Secretary of State decided otherwise.

And of course the idiot driver’s defence team will probably suggest that he felt threatened and intimidated by the younger fitter man (who lets remember had just intentionally struck the side of the vehicle – so in court I am sure can be presented as angry and aggressive!), and he was simply trying to leave the scene as quickly as possible for his own safety. .

For these reasons ^^ I’m certainly getting a helmet cam at the next opportunity.

    bank-kids-you accelerating-car-bank

parked cars- me (6″s either side) – car – bank

My kids had reacted at the shouting and pulled over between the parked cars at about the same time I passed them. I effectively put myself in place of my kids, then after passing the last parked car,

kerb -me (front wheel on kerb, right foot in the car door) – car angled across LH lane – clear RH lane – bank

Even though I really wanted to get the reg, for me it was just just too stressful a situation to capture it to memory.

That’s the first and certainly the last time I stand I front of a car to prevent someone from driving away, this is a real lesson-learned for me.

iplayer is just a platform but its been a game changer proving that the bbc is cutting edge and relevant
they also led the way with digital radio

The enabling technology, the web, was the game changer. Due to the fact we have 4Od, ITVPlayer, and others, I assume there was nothing novel (patentable) with the iplayer concept. Just allowed more bandwidth for the BBC to repeat more crap.

Can you cite me a country where participation is mandatory?

Rather not, could end up getting sentenced to a stoning

    akysurf

Why, the law in this country is that you need to pay a tax to watch TV. To live in this country you need to follow the laws of this country, simple as.

In some country’s you can join in with ‘legal’ stoning-to-death, does that make it right though?

The landowner can ask you to stop cycling on his land, and if you continue after he has asked you to stop then he can potentially take you to civil court.

By which time you’re stuffed. this is because some interpretations of the current law suggests that a landowner could not only peruse for damages for riding a bike on a pubic footpath, but could also pursue you for damages for pushing your bike on a footpath So you’ll need airlifting out by chopper
This is why the law is an arse, although test case law seems to be fairly non existent.

footpaths are for walkers only and riding on them is illegal

…isn’t it in fact a ‘trespass’ against the landowner, and not a criminal offense (unless a specific bylaw exists)? Isn’t it the case that the landowner can provide permission to use a footpath for cycling?

cyclist on a footpath you are in the wrong

…unless you have permission from the landowner

Open access does it for me. Open it all up, one mad free-for-all no conditions no rules, rationale: walkers will always walk wherever they want, cheeky trials will always be cheeky,

Also, remove styles, replace with jumps.

footpaths are for walkers only and riding on them is illegal and stupid

I’d propose that the law is stupid, and needs to be changed.

we came across a poor woman with a dog who was by this point quite angry, because she had accidentally missed a turn and ended up on the bike trail,

…wonder if she gets angry when she finds herself going the wrong way on the M6 in her mobility scooter?

I was surprised when I got flagged down by a couple walking a dog on a byway. After having taken my gloves off, unzipped my jacket, and switched off my iPod. I got asked, quite politely….

” We walk our dog here regularly off the lead, so if he ever starts to chase and bark at you, which he is likely to do, could you stop so we can get him under control and don’t loose him…blah blah”

I politely said “yeah” and pelted off as quick as I could, thinking FFS what am I a part time dog warden. Generally speaking i hate dogs, probably compounded by a particularly nasty bite in the leg a few years ago when out jogging. Apparently that was “my fault as my ‘running’ had proved the dog”. Did’t sue, wished I had!

I don’t get it, i sweat like chuff when i’m doing exercise but not under the arms if i’ve got anti-perspirant on.

This used to be the case, literally until a few weeks ago – now nothing seems to work

innovation is that innovation has to deliver value – generally to the company or organisation that has developed it.

This is true, but I’d go further arguing that value can be targeted through prioritized ‘needs-based’ research before dutifully designing/developing a product (or service) to deliver the best value proposition, I would propose this approach would increase the probability of success in ‘realizing targeted value’ (data driven and scientific innovation). I’m not suggesting that this approach was adopted by the developers in this case – perhaps it was, perhaps it wasn’t. Perhaps it was just an interesting technical challenge.

Hmm, you’re from Cambridgeshire and quite defensive about this. The company is from Cambridge. Any connection?

No. Although I’ve heard of the company as I live near cambridge, so the press release caught my eye…….ooh, and I like bikes and bike tech.

The rhetoric seems to be on this thread that cyclists (user’s) like to ‘feel in control’, which i fully empathize with. The target market in this case might be for a certain set of customers,Triathletes were suggested, where cadence performance might be prioritized higher than manual control over gear selection. I haven’t seen the device so can’t comment on it’s functional performance or reliability but I would be interested to give it a try.

    To jambo

An understanding of the ‘jobs’ Users need to get done and the metrics they apply in rating how successfully they have reached a desired outcome is the true measure of the value of the service (or product) – this is the science behind innovation.

Understanding these jobs and prioritizing them in order of importance provides targeted value. for example, ‘Jobs’ could be described in these terms:

minimize (direction) the time time it takes to (unit of measure) select a gear to maintain constant cadence (the desired outcome)
maximize (direction) the performance (unit of measure) to win a race (the desired outcome
+200 other jobs etc in order of priority.

Users requirements are key, but Users are not always best qualified to know their needs and certainly not qualified to determine the best and the most valuable design solutions, that’s the job of the developer. Users are often not precise, and paradoxically, introduce more variation into the process of development. The understanding usefulness is a data gathering process which must be well considered and well managed to avoid bias and the soliciting of mis-information.

My dad has lived overseas for 15 years and recently moved back to the UK. Now living in London suburbia and fearful of cycling around with all the traffic, he asked a couple of local bobbies whether it was okay to cylcle on the pavement – astonishingly they said it wasn’t, but “not in the town center”…whatever that’s means (?). So that’s it then it’s official it’s legal to cycle on the roads and the pavements – just make sure you’re insured before mowing down the OAP’s.
