In over 30 years of riding motorbikes I’ve only once been refused fuel unless I remove my lid. At the nearest petrol station to my house, and in the last year.

I lobbed the filler to the ground like a petulant teenager and rode off, never to return. I faced endless predujice* in the 80’s for the heinous crime of choosing to ride a motorcycle, and to say it p*sses me off is an understatement.

    * I realise I have made the choice to ride a bike, and therefore it on no way compares to prejudice against skin colour, sex, accent etc, but it’s mindless prejudice nonetheless and hence unacceptable.

Abergavenny/Crickhowell and the surrounding villages are quite nice

Agreed. Very nice area and not too far from Cardiff.

I guess the rule would be, use it for city driving, short journeys, not many motorway trips. Petrol Petrol Petrol. they are so much cleaner (in an urban environment) and cost effective in this use.
But if you spend most of your life on A roads + motorway with little city/town driving then diesel diesel diesel!

Absolutely this. We only do about 10k miles a year between both cars* as we walk most places, but have a 1.2 petrol for round town, and a 2l diesel for longer journeys.

    * yes having two cars is an extravagance.

Billy Bunter, Biggles, Jennings. All books I loved as a kid ( though Billy Bunter was incredibly dated even in the 70’s). May see if I can get hold of some.

In Bristol? Similar situation referred to on Facebook.

My parents used to wander round the house when I was a kid (70’s) up until I hit my teens. Not a particularly edifying spectacle.

Used to have a bath my my two daughters quite regularly when they were younger (they never asked to bath with my wife for some reason). As I recall, when each got to about 8 or 9 they made it quite clear they didn’t want to any more, and indeed found the sight of me tackle oot a tad disturbing. If I occasionally get caught out naked now (girls in their teens) I get an anguished “da a a a d……” followed by loud retching noises. A tad harsh I feel.

On the subject of naked old people, when my parents were alive I once received a call from my mum to ask me to go over to theirs as my (mid-80’s) dad had fallen over in the bathroom and couldn’t get up. Issue being he was in the habit of staying naked when in the house. After trying for about 30 mins to get him up I had to admit defeat and call for a paramedic (a middle-aged woman who bollocked my dad soundly for being naked). Not a memory I relish frankly.

Just to add I’m on iOS 8.1.2 and have had none of the problems referred to in this thread.

Had my 6+ for about 6-7 weeks now. Yes it’s a big old beast but it fits in my jeans fine, work trousers ok ( a bit “is that a gurt big phone in your pocket or are you pleased to see me?”), cycling clobber fine, motorcycle leathers fine. I never use a phone one-handed ( and with small hands it would be difficult with a 6+) so that’s really not an issue for me. I have a screen protecter and cheapo soft silicone case off eBay and have no problem with it being slippery or hard to use.

I went to the Apple store to buy a 6, but after 10 mins playing with the + I figured it was the one for me. Very quickly, normal sized phones seem far too small.

Bigger screen is great for browsing and watching vids / films, the camera is great (slightly better than the 6 and it has optical rather than digital stabilisation) and I get a good 2 days per battery charge, 3 occasionally with light use.

They’re not for everyone but I reckon 15 mins playing with one and you’ll know if you could live with one..

This thread is making me think I should do more night rides in scary places.

    Not on my own. Obviously.

Cheers. Recording set. I’m old enough to remember when we used to have traffic police instead of speed cameras. The amount of times I’ve been pulled with the opening words ‘and who do we think we are sir? Barry Sheene?’

My two daughters knew how to use they’re, there, their correctly from the age of 8 or 9. They are now (15 &13) possibly even more pedantic than me about misuse. It can be done.

Counter steering is an essential part of riding a bike (motorbikes more so than bicycles). Go into a corner too fast, or it tightens unexpectedly – shove the inside bar and round you go, no drama.

600s are a lot of fun when you’re in the right mood. Very different to the Tuono. (I went the opposite way from ZX6R P8 to the Tuono) !

Just left Vodafone after 7 years for 3. Best thing I ever did – have 3 or 4G 90% of the time, whereas withVodafone I only had 3G about 50% of the time. Absolute rubbish.

Been together 27 years as of last Monday.

Never once thought about leaving her / finishing it. Says it all really.

I do what I want, buy what I want, as does she. Our daughters (15and nearly 13) seem very well balanced, bright, and fun to be with.

One of my better life decisions.

That’s what my wife said. I haven’t got a clue.

Had a 10-odd year break from going to gigs when my kids were small. Started taking my elder daughter (just turned 15) to gigs, mainly old punk bands. Last couple were the UK Subs and last week Cockney Rejects. Neither are bands I was ever really into, but I consider it part of her musical education.

Neither gig would quantify as a musical masterpiece, but it’s all about the energy, attitude, and volume.

More importantly it’s sharing things I love with my kids, which cannot be beaten.

Mid 80s working as a motorbike courier.

3 up on a CX500 (I was in the middle), none of us wearing helmets, me tripping my nuts off on acid.

Headed up the M32 out of Bristol for a laugh and raced a Ford Capri, got up to about 90 with the bars weaving like crazy and my laughing my head off and screaming like a loon.

Lots of similar antics but that was probably one of the stupidest.

So glad my kids aren’t as stupid as me.

Only one absolute necessity in my two daughters’ education.

That they know how to use there, they’re, and their correctly, and that they ALWAYS get it right.

At 15 and 12 they passed with flying colours a few years back.

    My job is done.

Nothing wrong with profit, who would start a business without the expectation of making a profit.

It’s the obsession with maximising profit that is damaging in my view.

I.e. Huge financial corporation makes £4.5 billion profit in 2012. Hurrah. Healthy share price.

Same corporation makes £4 billion profit in 2013. Wailing, gnashing of teeth, heads must roll, share price drops.

    Ridiculous. Maybe I’m naive.

Not particularly my cup of tea but good to see the Japanese fighting back against the current European dominance (welcome though that is).

No one needs or can use that sort of power. I don’t need and can’t use all the 160bhp my current bike has, but damn, it’s fun trying 😀

I spent the 90’s obsessed with MTBing. Eventually I got fed up with the fact that I was slow as, scared of stuff that really wasn’t scary, and just was never going to be a half decent rider.

Rather bizarrely I’m quite handy on a motorbike and in any group am up front with the fast boys, where the consequences of getting it wrong are far, far worse.

I was quite a decent roadie for a while, Gold finish in La Marmotte, but have got lazy recently.

Risk perception and bravery / fear are strange things, and very personal.

Ridden motorbikes for well over 30 years and hate to say it but the video didn’t effect me that much.

I’m well aware of the risks I take every time I hit the starter button and head out for a ride.

I ride fast (very fast, my current bike has 160bhp at the rear wheel) when I deem it safe / appropriate to do so. I have a wife and two daughters so my passion for motorbikes / speed is always tempered with the need to get home in one piece.

Though the driver was at fault in that video, as a vulnerable 2 wheeled road user the onus is in you to anticipate crap driving ( as best you can) and stay alive. I regularly ride well into 3 figures mph on the road, but NEVER approaching a junction or any scenario where I judge the risk too great to do so (laybys, farm entrances, car parks etc).

Very sad, and RIP rider, but in 95% of bike accidents the rider (I’m including cyclists here) has some share of the responsibility (even if a tiny %).

I love riding bikes. I love staying alive.

My experience of sides being picked for any sport (school,so 30+ years ago) : two captains work their way through the options in front of them until only two are left – me and the class fat kid (in the 70s/80s every class had a fat kid. Just the one). The two captains then look at each other in a non-verbal communication that says “don’t care which one”.

Triumph Bonneville / T100 / Thruxton a good call if you’re not too worried about going very fast or last minute braking into corners before chucking it on it’s ear.

Yes, back pressure will be greatly reduced so he’ll almost certainly need to rejet the carb(s) and maybe move the needles to get the mixture right and not run it too lean. Bet it’s not quiet either!!

I’m a big Shark fan, as much as anything for the stupidly easy visor change mechanism. I generally use a dark visor but carry a clear one in case of a change in the weather or I end up out after dark. 30 seconds to change over on my Shark RSI. I also have an HJC with an integral sun visor and I’m not a fan. My wife however loves the drop down visor on her lid.

I live a few hundred yards from a mosque , and hence a fairly large Asian population. There is virtually no racial tension in this area. I realise this is not necessarily common, but the meatheads do not always prevail.
