No. But road riding feels like it is sometimes.

I loved Southern Comfort in my late teens / early 20s.

Until the time I overdid it (most of a bottle) and puked it up.

Since then even a sniff of it makes me retch.

    🙁

661 full face lids £30 at CRC. Ordered one, it’ll only get used a couple of days a year at BPW but at that price I can justify it.

Working for a large insurance company in the mid 80’s. Couple of guys said the new girl who’d started upstairs was fit. I wandered past her desk and decided she was.

A few weeks later I went up to her and asked her out, in front of about 5 old crones she worked with who all stopped work to watch.

“I can’t, it’s difficult” she said (had a steady boyfriend). I slunk out dejected.

Christmas party in a local nightclub a few months later I walk in and immediately she rushes up to me and sticks her tongue down my throat. Inseparable all night.

Spent a month or two as bit on the side then she dumped the boyfriend.

Silver Wedding anniversary next year 🙂

If you like Indian the Raj Mahal in Redcliffe is good ( use it a lot for takeaways and sometimes a sit down). Go over Redcliffe Hill towards Bedminster and turn left at the roundabout – it’s just along there next to the school.

Otherwise loads of places to eat on the harbourside, 5-10 mins walk from Redcliffe.

Endura have always been one of my go to brands. Never had an issue with their kit.

Unlike Altura which always falls apart within a few months. I’ll never buy their stuff now.

I did it in 2005 – my first ever sportif! Trained hard from January, solo hilly 100 milers most Saturday mornings and got my weight down to 10 stone (at 5’11” I didn’t look great that light, my wife hated it).

Went with the aim of getting a Gold finish, and managed it by 7 minutes. One thing that helped me was I’d practised dressing and undressing (wind top, arm warmers etc) whilst riding – as I needed to do this at the top of every descent and bottom of every climb this saved me a fair bit of time. Ate and drank on the go to, I only stopped to piss (once on the whole ride- hmm perhaps I wasn’t drinking enough).

The final climb of Alpe D’Huez was the most miserable experience ever on a bike, I was close to tears most of the way up I was so mentally and physically exhausted. That said, it was an amazing experience, overall I loved it, and I’d do it again if I could be arsed to get fit enough.

I love walking. Walk about 25 miles a week including my just under 2 miles each way commute. Walking around / through cities is the best way to get around.

Wife and younger daughter (13) fart like troopers and find it hilariously funny. Older daughter (16) has never been known to trump and finds the whole issue rather displeasing. She’s the cuckoo in the nest.

Having a mincecore lite riding style I’ve never remotely considered a full face lid.

Rode BPW for the first time a few weeks back and loved it, heading back in a few weeks. Felt fine in open face lid and no pads , but as I’m booking the uplift next time I’m mighty tempted by those cheap lids at CRC just to play safe. As has been said, the trails are fast there and the Reds are pretty rocky.

Tried tubeless on my cx bike a few years back expecting a life changing experience. Couldn’t get the tyres to seat on the rim or stay inflated.

Got dissolutioned with tubeless and though considered trying again on my new 27.5 full Susser not sure I can be arsed.

5 of us off to BPW for the first time. We’ll see how a bunch of xc jeyers get on there. Looking forward to Terry’s Belly 🙂

Bicycles – plenty of lost skin and bruises.

Motorbikes – broken back, most bones in right foot broken, broken collar bone.

If I’d never discovered the joy, nay the love, the obsession, with two wheels I’d be pristine.

Bristol has / had a “hum” , referenced here: http://www.independent.co.uk/environment/nature/have-you-heard-the-hum-mystery-of-earths-low-droning-noise-could-now-be-solved-10182111.html

I’ve certainly heard it, it’s kept me awake at night in the past.

Recently bought a Meta Trail from Commencal direct. Ordered on the Saturday, arrived the following Thursday as far as I recall.

Since ordered some cable grommets from them, same timescale.

So no, not normal in my experience.

    £25 a month, Bristol.
I’m going out on a limb here, but reckon there’s a correlation between jeans & haircuts. How many of the sub £10 haircuts buy their jeans from Asda or TM lewin? And how many >£20 know what chronic crotch blowout on raw selvedge means?

I was just reading an article the other day in the Evening Post about the gentrification of many Bristol suburbs….. 😉

£0 here, wife does my hair with clippers. As I recall, the last time I paid for a haircut was 1998.

Thanks all. I’ve contacted the seller about a replacement and will disconnect from the remote end next time. Don’t know why manufacturer (Comencal) suggest disconnecting at the post.

The Chimney – a descent that scared the life out of me on a rigid bike in the early 90’s and has got progressively easier over the years.

I love the Quantocks – some of the finest riding in the UK.

Hells Angels MC still alive and kicking. Was drinking in a pub owned / run by them a few weeks back. (Bloody great Deaths Head mural on front of pub a not so subtle giveaway). They’re mostly knocking on a bit now mind.

I have a 2000 Orange Sub5 frame with Fox Vanilla Air shock (medium size – about 17/18″) gathering dust, fits your criteria other than tapered headset. Good used condition, no play in bearings.

Wouldn’t want a huge amount for it. PM me if you’re interested.

I was quite impressed to see on the roadworks on the A30 dual in Cornwall signs that read “Use both lanes until merge”. And then at the merge ‘Merge in turn’ signs.

As was I. When driving down to St Ives 2 weeks ago everyone heeded the signs and the merging at the cones was (nearly) text book.

However, driving back up today, as we approached the same roadworks a douchecanoe in a red Beemer took it upon himself to ensure no-one could get past him in the outside lane – I tried going up on the verge to go past him just to see how righteous he was and he tried to ram me. Just laughed at him in his mirror and pulled in behind him. No doubt he is basking in the glory of “winning”.

Some people do seem to go out of their way to get wound up about things.

    Dick Lovett Motorrad in Bristol.

Electronic damper in the forks on my S1000R failed under warranty, without me asking they offered me a brand new bike as a loaner whilst it was being fixed. Turned that down as I had a long trip planned which would have taken me well over the 600 miles when the first service was required, so they gave me their ex demo bike instead and were very apologetic about the fact that they hadn’t had a chance to clean it.

Nice blokes as well, friendly but professional. As a result I’m likely to stay with the BMW brand for future bikes as good motorcycle dealers are not common sadly.

Clothes off and neatly folded he proceeded to liberally apply his shower gel then lent out of his cubicle and dropped the money in the slot, cue the bloke in the next cubicle screaming out as the hot shower covered him as he got dressed.

Brilliant! Proper lol at that one.

Ragley Blue Pig. Geometry that feels so weird at first but works so well once you’ve got your head round it.

I regularly trawl e bay for a ti version, but sadly in vain so far.

I bought the female version of one of these for my teenage daughter a few months back. I got it boxed and set it up – I was pleasantly surprised how good it is, nothing flash and slightly heavy, but a great bike for the money.

If I needed a new bike solely for commuting I’d happily buy one, and I’ve spent well over £2k on MTBs and road bikes on many occasions.

The mentions from the Bristol residents have reminded me – when I used to live in ‘posh’ parts (ie Clifton or Westbury Park), the neighbours wouldn’t piss on you if you were on fire. In BS3 now – much nicer.

This. Grew up in Clifton / Redland, moved south of the river 25+ years ago. Much nicer and friendlier.

House next door to us (semi) is rented and had various people in there during the 14 years we’ve lived here, mainly Poles. All been great, no issues at all.

The only items I (we really, family input) have had issues with from Aldi are their ketchup and coleslaw. Everything else is dirt cheap and top drawer.
