I had a ZX6R for a while but rode it at 3 figure speeds pretty much everywhere so figured I needed a naked to slow down a bit.

Went for an Aprilia Tuono (one of the few nakeds I’ve always lusted after) and I love it. Sounds amazing with the Miv GP titanium cans on, huge amount of mid-range grunt, sportsbike handling, comfy(ish). Ok, over 100mph the windblast gets you, but that’s kinda the point…. 😉

    Here’s mine (crappy iphone pic):

Rather irritating but a bit of gaffer tape would shut her up, then I would. Damn yeah………….

Another very satisfied First Direct customer here, been with them since they set up in the early 90’s and have never had any complaints at all. I’d recommend them unreservedly (and I work for one of their competitors!!)

About 55p for a pint of Courage Best: Bristol, probably 1981 (underage). Used to pay around 50p for a pack of 20 tabs too.

First time I paid over £1 for a pint was at the Avon Gorge hotel in Bristol, for a pint of Kronenbourg. I was horrified!

    Brilliant.

Never got as in to them at the time as I wish, in retrospect, I had done.

Had my 09 Galaxy for nearly 6 months now. 2.0TDCI Zetec. Seriously impressive, great to drive (power steering too light is my only gripe, though I've got used to it) shed loads of room, whether it be family holidays to Cornwall with my road bike, kids' body boards, dinghies etc as well as usual cases etc, or biking trips.

S Max is meant to handle better and be far more car-like, but I wanted space and versatilty over anything else and I havn't been dissapointed.

Financial Ombudsman isn't really an option for you – yet. You have to raise an official complaint with your bank and let them process it and answer it, which they have 8 weeks in which to do so, before you can refer to the FOS. The FOS are overwhelmed at the mo and will take at least 6 months to deal with your complaint.

Stick with the police angle and good luck!

Erm.. the museum isn't on Queens Square, it's on Queens Road, at the top of Park Street.

If you're round the docks area The Ostrich pub does reasonably priced food and has stacks of outside seating if the weather's good.

I have one tattoo, a rose on my upper right arm that I had done when I was 18 (44 now). At the time (mid-80's) nice middle class privately educated boys like me didn't get tattoos (or at least not to the extent they do now). That was a big part of the attraction.

I have never once regretted it or wanted it removed / covered up. I'd never choose that design (off a flash card) now, and it's faded / blurred over the years, but it's part of me and who I was at the time. I've thought about getting another (custom this time) for about the last 20 years but havn't come up with a design I really want. May well get another one at some point.

Re: tattoos / piercings' greater acceptance these days. I work for one of the leading banks and one of the assistant managers (50 year old who spent the first 20+ years of his working life in a sawmill) in my department has arms covered in old school blue ink tattoos (he always wears a long sleeved shirt but they show through) and large holes in his ears (as referred to above somewhere, can't be arsed to look back to see what they are called). There are also a fair few guys in their 20's who are covered in tattoos – they are all fairly junior grades, but based on the AM I just mentioned I don't think their ink will hold them back career-wise….. to a point. I doubt any of our director-level managers have tats but who knows (cf: the partner in a top law firm with a swastika on his head as referred to in a recent thread).

Quite depressing to see the level of bigotry on this thread, though not entirely surprising.

Two silver and red RD250Es and and black and red ( and blue frame) 350LC. Fair few Jap 4strokes since and just bought an Aprilia Tuono – V twin goodness. If I saw an RD or LC at the right price….. Hmmmmmm I just might …

Rd 350 lc. I loved that bike but I also hated it. When it went it flew but it blew up on a regular basis. Bloody thing put the rod through the side of the barrel.

Same here. Great bike, but it ended up snapping it's crank on the local bypass at 70mph with my wife (then gf) on the back. Years of riding 2 strokes gave me lightning fast clutch hand reactions! Mind you, after I rebuilt the engine it started first kick.

Whilst I agree it's your experiences with something that give it soul, when it comes to motorbikes very few (modern certainly) Japanese bikes have soul, whereas Italian ones do for sure. Not too sure about modern Triumphs….

Hope it all works out ok and you get your lens or cash back.

I've bought a lot of s/h stuff on the net (including a £16k car, that gave me a few sleepless nights) and it's always come good, but I'm always conscious there's a lot of unscrupulous scumbags out there. I only buy from sites with a feedback system and hence from sellers with good feedback.

Huntly: My head says the prison service owe him a duty of care and *if* they have failed in that then he is right to seek compensation. Elfinsafety, TJ et al have it right.

My heart hopes that he spends the rest of his existance having boiling hot fluids thrown over him, having his throat slashed, and generally having an apallingly miserable and painful time of it.

The legal system (rightly) exists to banish emotion from the judicial process.

I bought an 8 month old Galaxy 2.0TDCI Zetec in March – best car I've ever had, love it to bits. It's the consumate mile-muncher / motorway car, stick it in 6th and cruise at 90mph / 2,800rpm (mid-40's mpg). Sh*t loads of space and nice to drive / easy to park with the parking sensors. All 5 back seats folded into the floor: van-like carrying space.

Only negative I can find is the power steering is way too light which makes throwing it through the twisties frustrating, but to be fair, that's really not what it's designed for.

The head gasket in the missus's Ford Ka went last month. A few weeks after we'd bought it… 👿

Local back street place (well recommended) charged £560 incl vat. That included having the head skimmed.

Never tried BT45s but I'm a big Bridgestone fan. Used BT021s on my VFR750, now use BT016s on my ZX6R. Nice grippy predictable tyres with a decent life.

I think that balance is acceptable on short circiuts but I don't think it is anymore at the TT.

So it's a good job that people like you don't get their own way then.

The TT exists. It happens. It carries on. Get over it.

Riders race there because of what it is – The fastest, most glorious race in the world. They know the dangers. The spectators know the dangers, but stll they keep coming. What's not 'acceptabe' to one person is a dream, an achievement, a pinnacle to another. As I posted on another thread, the TT is the last baston of all that's insane. The most incredible racing on the most fantasic race circuit in the world. Bar none. I for one am glad it exists. I'm glad it's existance annoys people. That's why I'm going back next year. You either understand. Or you don't

Well said. The incidious creep of health and safety naziism depresses the hell out of me. Life is to be lived. Not sat in a chair worrying about what if's.

What p*sses me off is when you meet new blokes (i.e. new job, social gathering etc) and it becomes known that you (I) have no interest in wendyball and you get "that" look of barely-disguised contempt and are clearly regarded as not a proper bloke, and henceforth get ignored.

Pr!cks, it's only a bunch of overpaid goons chasing a likkle ball about.

(admittedly a bunch of middle-aged blokes tearing around on horrendously expensive bicycles may not be a whole lot better…)

I actually think Britain is great doog, and crap like this makes no difference to me. I think Britain's great because of its diversity, its funny, creative people, the NHS, its music, sport, and how the majority of its people are self deprecating, piss taking, irreverant and above all decent. You know what? I wouldnt want to live anywhere else.

TdJ – many cities do (I recall Sheffield's bus service as being excellent), which makes it all the more depressing (and slightly baffling) that Bristol's is so, so p!ss-poor.

I never use busses either. I live 4 miles from the centre of bristol. First bus are a bunch of profiteering bastards of the highest order. Bristol City Council fail at every juncture to hold them to account. Bus services in this city are illogical, overpriced and unreliable.

If you never use them how do you know waht they are like? Its the classic argument from the public transport hater that it is rubbish – but they don't use it.

Tdj – adh is spot on, trust me, the bus service in Bristol in unbelievably apalling. I will often walk miles home across Bristol after a night out rather than catch a bus (and I'm too mean to pay for taxis). If Bristol ever gets a decent, cheap public transport system I'll use it… occasionally, as we made the choice to live 1.5 miles from the city centre so my wife and I both walk to work and the kids walk to school – and long may that continue.

We have two Fords. A Galaxy for out of town stuff, and bike-lugging, camping etc. A Ka for knocking around town. The Ka is a go-kart, handles so well. I took a Ka up to the Isle of Skye (from Bristol) 11 years ago for my wife's 30th – cruised at 90mph on the Mway no problem (bit thirsty mind), and on the twisty up-and-downy roads of Skye it was absolutely superb – didn't wish for anything else.
