CX ride with Clubber of this parish. My first time on a bike in a few months (embarassingly). It hurt but it was good 😀

I reckon you played that spot-on Mog – nice one!

I’d like to hope I’m more in touch with reality than some on here, I have friends and acquaintances from all backgrounds and with wildly varying incomes, some of whom I really don’t know how they get by, but this thread is a salutory reminder that I have, and have always had, a pretty sheltered, comfortable existence.

Good luck to the OP’s mate and anyone in a similar situation.

Bank Managers and Headteachers used to be middle class IIRC, what do they earn now?

Branch managers for the bank I work for tend to be quite young and on well under £30k. A girl I worked with a while back managed three branches in the Welsh valleys, working 12 hour days for £24k pa. Admittedly there are bonuses on top of that if targets are met, but it’s not a job I’d do given the salary.

When I was a kid Bank Managers (i.e. branch managers) were important people and (I assume) rewarded accordingly.

    Head teachers: afaik £60 – £100k + (secondary school).

Well I eventually got an e-mail (duplicate receipt for me as well) saying I’m in, but I’m not on the sign-up list and no cash has left my account.

    Hopefully the e-mail means I’m in……

FFS! Now closed and my name is no longer on the sign up list.

    Bloody shambles.

My payment was accepted 40 mins ago but still no confirmation e-mail.

I’m on the sign-up list though, so fingers crossed!!

Very odd, but each to their own. What people do behind closed doors is up to them.

I have an iphone5. The camera is very good in good light, not bad for a phone camera in low light. I think the camera on my old Galaxy S2 that I gave to my wife was probably slightly better though.

They sound like inconsiderate p*ss takers. Can’t be doing with people like that. Just go out tonight and let them sort themselves out.

I’ll check the consumer unit and see if the supply is on it’s own ring, hopefully it is. If so I guess if I flick the trip switch and cap the wires with a chocolate block it’ll be ok til the sparkie on the extension comes in a few months’ time and sorts it properly?

Hmmmm I’d hoped it was quite easy! I know a few sparkies, looks like I’m best off giving one of them a call…

My wife left me and took my daughter, i lost my dream house, I was close to suicide for a while.

    Not a good year.

Mike – if you ever want a (slow, I’m seriously unfit at the mo) ride and a chat let me know. I’m a good listener.

alexxx: very, very hard to say, both cracking bikes that suit me down to the ground. The Tuono handles superbly (I’ve raised the rear ride height and raised the forks in the yokes which makes it turn in quicker without making it twitchy – I do have a Hyperpro RSC damper fitted though) and the V twin grunt is very addictive, it’s the easiest overtaking bike I’ve ever had, pretty much whatever gear just twist n’ go!

The Street Triple was a grower tbh, probably because they are so hyped up in the motorcycle press. I realised it was a very good bike straight away, didn’t quite get the whole Street Triple love-fest. However, the more I’ve ridden it (2000 miles since buying it in June) the more I realise just what a stunning road bike it is. It weighs sod-all so handles superbly on my favourite B roads (suspension is over-sprung for my 11 stone though) but what’s surprised me is how practical it is, my wife finds it far better riding pillion than she does on the Tuono. It’s also a superb engine, hugely torquey for it’s relatively small size.

Both are keepers and will be in my garage for a good few years (nothing out there at the moment I’d change either for) and I hope to hell I never have to get rid on one and keep the other. If I’m honest I reckon it’d be a toss a coin job followed by months of depression!!

‘Nudder picture of the STR showing the Fresco lowboy can which (IMO) looks far better than the hideous standard underseat cans (and sounds great too):

    My brother, died in ’96.

Not a “cyclist”, but always used a bicycle as his mode of transport around SW Scotland. Would have been cool to go for a ride with him and stop off for a pint or two at village pubs.

    The Seers

Brizzle band from the late ’80’s – amazing live (I must have seen them 30+ times) but sadly it never really translated to vinyl / plastic so they never really broke through.

Cold calling is no honourable way to earn a crust. I’ve always wondered how desperate you’d have to be to do it as a living. I’d rather stack shelves, pick or process veg, clean toilets. Pretty much anything.

    This.

I have a Galaxy 2.0TDci, my niece has an S-Max 2.0TDCi. Both great cars, only thing I’d say about the S-Max is that the lower roof line means the boot opening is quite restrictive, it’s caused ny niece a few problems when trying to move furniture etc.
