Yes you should! And all the stuff above, the kettlewell route is awesome. It’s all local to me and a best kept secret, I rarely see anyone up here, just the way I like it. You have to like old school and big climbs and chunky downhills. Love the dales, and when the weather is crap it’s all the better! Gona do whernside in the morning!
Leadership is usually defined by two generalised characteristics these are influence or control. A controlling leader will rely upon transactional power to assert their will on subordinates . Exerting our will on those who we have responsibility for leading is necessary but those who lack confidence or personal expertise to genuinely motivate people will fall back on the only thing that they are assured of; their power over you. So what to do?
Let me tell you something controversial but ‘powerful’ : we not only have resonsibility for those that we lead but for those who lead us and how they do it! What can you do to help him to be less of an arse?
Nuts my man and loads of em. As a youthful climber in the 80s I was vegan for 5 years (now just vegie) and couldn’t have maintained my muscle build and strength without nuts. Constant snacking on them… It worked, was as fit as a butchers dog (so to speak)…
But she made my heart swell when earlier today at a visit to Leeds art gallery she saw a picture by Holman Hunt – Christ in his youth or something and asked “daddy is Jesus really a mountain biker” you can imagine my response!
It’s difficult to detach contemporary vanicular easthics from functionality, this is especially true when the engineering requirements result in an understandable grand facade. Compare Frank Lloyd Write to Le Courbusier for aesthetics and functionality debate with fashion and modernist heroism as an example…
Orange 5 AM, awsome! Talas forks allow me to vary length to suit and it’s indestructible! Shortened the stem and changed sadle position. Its heavy but that’s a reason to get fit, only trouble is I don’t ride much else now! Italy this week to test it’s stamina, but fear it will be better than mine! Love the fact I can choose the line I want to take rather than the one I fear the bike can do! Hasnt let me down yet!
Would recommend Dalby combined with a blast on north York moors, but neither is easy to get to from Sunny Scunny. Stainburn is brilliant but it’s a long way and would not keep you entertained for a day.
Sorry, also if you want to stay Leeds based check out http://www.singletraction.co.uk/index.php and look for Stainburn, it’s just above Otley, not far from Leeds. It’s an eye opener……….
My sat map is excellent, and it takes the bashes and copes with the rain. Use it more in the winter when on new routes and don’t have time to faf about with maps. Down side only that the maps cost a fortune and the 1:50 isn’t much good for what we do.
Just back from Gunnerside Gill, done it a few times over the years but today did the MBR version, hadn’t done it that way round before. Big old climbs and plenty of em, saw no one else on bike, only a few bimblers. Top day, now knacked!
Lived in east Yorkshire for long time, not much biking around there, a bit flat. Mbr reviewed some routes last year and were pretty scathing about them – dull. I used to put the bike in the car and drive to the Dales or Yorkshire moors, good guides available for both. Moved to the hills eventually, great ride today from my doorstep.
Don’t fear going down the ladder, if you have a slack front end. Stay off the back end and stay loose and it’s fine. Do choose your line carefully though and I like to be wearing knee pads just in case. Also going down when walkers are on it is a bit of a pain, but mid week should be better. Above is right, it’s a big old route….
And to some even the peaks is not strictly up north….
Sertraline saved me, didn’t really think I was depressed, my partner eventually MADE me go to the doctor. Actually took me there herself. Didn’t want ‘happy pills’ and relieved that these are not like that. No effect for two weeks and then wham – I am back to the bloke I was three years ago. It’s made me realise that I have been in bother for a long time, ironically I think my orange am might have disguised it for a while, but I’ll forgive it. Only on them for 6 months and they don’t make me feel weird or out of it at all. Only side effect – unbelievable wind!!!!!
Guys (this means girls as well)! Come to Yorkshire! The dales are in fine form, bit of a drive to get in there but worth it, and do know what? No one else will be here! Stainburn, hawes, settle, gunnerside, whernside, tan hill, top banana!
