all that FT article points too, is that politicians have to be held personally accountable to their actions. Cameron and Osbourne have walked away fortunes intact yet they are responsible for the mess and will never have to suffer for it.

Do this and you’ll have an even worse talent deficit than at present!

I think we had the Speys put in Navy ‘tooms because of their low-level performance, to get them off the deck! Plus probably a sweetener for RR. The RAF weren’t happy as the Speys weren’t as good at higher levels; “You can’t Spey a Phantom!” Later RAF jets had the original (GE?) engines.

The bucc reputedly flew on a cushion of air in ground effect, like a helicopter. Apparently, if you were possessed of a sufficiently large pair, you could push the stick at low level and you wouldn’t stood in ……

I believe they were succumbing to fatigue at the end of their life, must have been one of the last jets designed by pencil rather than computer. There were a few lost by the “spectacles” failing and the wings folding up

Great bit of kit. Very much the right tool for the job!

Ah, the inexplicably named raspberry ripple paint job!

They used to say it was so underpowered that a heavy one would only get airborne due to the curvature of the earth!

Big soft spot for this one:

Have skipped to the end here, but I’d love to have £13k debt! And I’ve got no savings. In the top 10% of earners apparently, shit car, no kids, not an extravagant lifestyle (1 holiday most years, bikes are 2010 and 11). I’m slightly over mortgaged after a divorce but I really struggle to sit at home not spending while life passes me by! Modern life innit. Half my debt is solar panels too, and most of the rest is consolidation of earlier stuff. I think public sector pay restraint has caught me out a bit, there was a time when I could borrow and then inflate my way out of it…..

Apologies if it’s been done, but if it’s the one with swirl flaps, any BMW specialist should be able to change for blanking plates. Cost me £150, was about to fail apparently and I got 100,000 miles more before I sold it 🙂

Ever seen a lion rise after slumber? You’re asking me to yawn massively, scratch myself a bit, service my harem perhaps then nod off again? It doesn’t seem like a recipe for political change;)

the kid who touched up his eyes to make them whiter and put lipstick on seems pretty **** gay to me – I didnt know Islam allowed bum sex.

On my last trip to Afghanistan, there were a couple of these lads around the base. And I thought my job was shit! IIRC it’s a cultural thing rather than an Islamic thing per se; see “dancing boys”. Grim. There’s a curious doublethink going on with some where they think being gay is a sin, harsh punishment etc, but just don’t count fooling round with other boys as gay!

In fact, given that Labour’s manifesto promised more for 95% of people, oob’s assertion must have something in it given the result, even after correcting for tribalism and the press!

Just to confirm, we’re talking about the party that substantially increased its number of seats, and confounded every prediction made at the start of the campaign?

Still didn’t win. I didn’t vote for him for the reasons oob states.

i’m sure that’s all fine and dandy, long as you completely ignore content of this thread…Hint, it wasn’t the “lefties” that started trying to score spurious points/wind up people(delete as applicable) on the back of a horrifying disaster.

Granted, though I didn’t view the OP as a wind-up. I’ve seen a lot of it on Facebook too, with the run-up to the election. The polarising effect of the Internet is saddening. Reasonableness will be the saviour of us all!

You know how you were asking a few pages back why hardly anybody from the political “right” posts? Take a look at the responses to teamhurtmore’s return. Like most forums, this one is dominated by a clique of regulars. Most of you lean to the left politically. Nothing wrong with that. The 2 that don’t appear to be a lunatic and either the greatest troll ever or some kind of sado-masochist But anyone who voices any kind of pro-Conservative, monarchy or organised religion views will immediately find themselves being passive-aggressively patronised or getting outright hostility from a few posters.
I await the cries of snowflake. I’m happy to defend my opinions but nobody gets paid to come on here, why would anyone want to spend their free time doing that? I accept the tone of lots of people who have posted from that end have been confrontational or even offensive, but lots of the big hitters are at fault here from my point of view. Words like self-righteous and condescending spring to mind! I do enjoy reading opinions on here and I’ve learned a lot, but I think the tone can feel a bit aggressive on subjects that would probably be a convivial chat face to face.

I’m more interested in results than ideology. The objective here is to rehouse a few hundred people as close as possible to their former homes. JC’s proposal, as Capt Flasheart said, would be fraught with costs and legal wrangles. How about:
    1. Put them in nearby hotels at council expense, they’ve got a big reserve.
    2. Appeal to the consciences (if fitted) and pockets (tax deductions) of vacant/large property owners. Central money.
    3. Rehouse asap. Accelerate building in the area and those nearby.
Seems simpler (not simple!) to me!

To account for losses of VAT on the essential items, much higher VAT should be placed on luxury items (say 50%).

Mike, where have I said I support Brexit? Terrible idea. I was responding to the general “f*** ’em” tone. Your points are cumulative, not exclusive. If we’re doing brexit, is this the time for further discouragement? Agree a few percent will probably be ok, just don’t think now’s the time.

The city pays about 10% of this country’s tax revenue. But you go ahead and shoot the golden goose.
Has that covered the 2008 bailout yet?

About £130 bn in actual cost IIRC so yes, ages ago.

Wouldn’t you prefer to live in a country that didn’t base it’s economy on money laundering for the world’s worst people?

Unlike many on here, I don’t think finance is inherently immoral. It’s an essential service. Of course there are wrong uns, it’s a huge industry.

There is nothing to disagree with. It is a fact based document on what the parties are offering/intending to do, put in very simple easy to read manner.

That favours anybody promising the moon on a stick!

    airtragic

Yes they are. But instead of parties politically slagging each off, media trying to influence etc,. it would be better to have non politically aligned and non-biased information broadcast, sent to all in post etc,. so at least the clueless are given a chance to understand what the parties are offering, what the differences are, what it means to each person, what it means to public services

If it didn’t agree with you, would you think it was unbiased?
