The word’s ‘ungrateful bar stewards’ springs to mind.

Nearly £50k a year for driving a tube train – that’s double the average nurses salary!

After enduring transport chaos in London today resulting in the loss of a client meeting (and possibly some business for us), I’d personally sack the lot of them and give their jobs to someone who is grateful to have a job.

Totally out of order these guys being allowed to hold London and it’s people to ransome in this way. Their selfish actions must have cost businesses 10’s of millions of pounds today alone. Surely this money could be much better spent making a system that’s fully automatic in the first place (like Copenhagen), getting rid of the troublesome drivers all together so that this sort of thing can’t happen in the future.

Thanks for these, will have a Google. Quite fancy lively bars open late with music, DJ’s etc, just preferably with a good mix of people. Don’t mind the odd bar crawl teenage group, but don’t want to be over run by them (as in the only option for a night out).

Sorry to hijack the thread but I’d be interested in hearing more about this too. Is Cafe del Mar still how it used to be and not ruined by lager louts? What about the clubs, only likely to visit one or two so want to make sure I choose wisely (going for the music – and want to avoid the typical Brits abroad). Any where else on the island that’s chilled and relaxing with good music?

Most of my friends who’ve had kids seem to fall in to one of two camps:

They are either totally self absorbed, have become boring and seem to spend their entire lives posting pictures of said kids on Facebook.

Or they seem totally stressed out about the whole thing, have little time or cash and rarely ever come biking any more.

Thankfully there are a small minority who seem to get it right and involve the kids in their hobbies, friends etc (rather than revolving everything about their lives around the kids) Kids seem happier too in this instance.

tbh I’d have p/ex’d for the new one… Why didn’t you?

Because this way he wasn’t offered £££££’s less than the price the car would sell for privately. Never ceases to amaze me the number of people who part ex cars for thousands less than they could sell them for privately.

Work colleague traded in his 4 yr old BMW 3 series for around £3,000 less than the same cars were going for on Autotrader. That’s the price of a new Orange 5. Asked why and he just said he didn’t want the hassle of selling privately. How much hassle would you be prepared to put up with for £3k in your back pocket?

Personally I’ve never had any hassle selling my 5 previous cars privately. Take good photos, write an honest description, price sensibly and job done, weed out the time wasters on the phone, motivated buyer comes round and gives me cash (or transfer at the bank), sold as seen receipt signed by both parties, then leaves with the car. Simple.

Jeeeessssss, not yet another thread for the self righteous to vent their frustrations on yet another person who’s driven in a way they don’t personally like? Sounding like the Jeremy Vine show on here at the moment

Thanks all, some awesome suggestions here and thanks for taking the time to reply in such detail. Looks like October it may have to be due to work commitments etc. Is there likely to be snow higher up in Whistler by then?

Are there plenty of friendly hostels and campsites if I didn’t want to go so far as hiring a mobile home?

Thanks some great suggestions there, keep them coming. Is October likely to be cold and miserable then?

Whatever you do don’t buy an Insignia, it’s a complete crock of a car and will depreciate in value faster than a bag of frozen prawns left out in the sun. Same with leasing, you’re just paying off the depreciation in monthly payments plus the leasing companies profit on top without having anything to show for it at the end. Mondeo much better to drive, but BMW best of all I’d say.

Or for £11k you could get THIS, (or the 330/335 versions) and put £3k toward the extra fuel or a new bike/holiday.

You’ve been reading the Conservative party manifesto haven’t you?

Nope I’ve just been watching the BBC news. I’m not biased at all – I’ve voted Labour and Lib Dem in the past and might do again in the future if they improve, it’s just the current Labour lot are a real crock of s**t. The Conservatives have plenty of issues too but they are the far more credible alternative this time around.

Feel really sorry for those people who are blinkered and unable to overcome their prejudices about either party (oh I always vote Labour because the Tory’s are for the rich and vise versa). Honestly, open your eyes for once and just vote for whoever you think will do the best job for the long term future of the country, whether Labour, Tory, Lib Dem etc.

If the other brother had won the Labour leadership battle, I think they’d win this election.

Agreed, they’d be in with a much better chance.

The amount of people spouting off as if they they know for a fact what they are saying is true when it’s actually bulls**t they’ve picked up from the right wing press is amusing.

Really? People generally buy the papers that reflect their views. You could say that’s democratic, or perhaps we should resort to censorship to stop this sort of thing? Regardless, I never read the press, let alone the right wing press or poisonous daily mail. My only source of news is the BBC which is supposed to be unbiased, yet I still think Milliband is an absolute clown.

He reminds me of one of those obnoxious Apprentice candidates and I wouldn’t have the confidence in him to run a market stall, let alone anything more important.

He’d appear to say anything to get into power, even denying that they had any part in the financial crisis in the UK (cause it was a global thing wasn’t it). His election campaign smacks of spreading fear with one hand and giving the electorate sweeties with the other. The trouble is is that sweeties, although they taste nice temporarily, are not good for the teeth in the long term and it’s not long before the rot sets in.

Awkward, no charisma, backstabbing, weird, spineless, annoying, clueless, out of touch, always whinging & whining, had very little positive to say about anything over the last 5 years, can’t seem to acnowledge or learn from Labour’s past mistakes, no apparent clear sense of direction, kneejerk policies, public school boy, wet behind the ears, not a natural leader, talks about problems – not solutions, more bothered about becoming PM than the good of the UK.

Could say some of these things a lot of politicians from all main parties but unfortunately Edd’s the whole sorry package in my eyes. John Smith, now there was a great Labour leader and someone I’d have been happy to vote for.

Sounds like the OP might be better off flogging a dead horse.

Or ditching her and spending his evenings ‘flogging the sausage’ instead, whilst spending the money he’s saved on bike stuff and beer.

Probably yes because they seem to be doing an okay job with getting the economy back on track and at least are talking some sense on the economy, i.e. live within our means, not borrowing recklessly like Labour would.

Also you need to think, can you really see Edd ‘William Pitt the Younger’ Milliband as PM? Merkel would eat him for breakfast and we’d be a laughing stock.

I’ve voted Labour in the past so no loyalty or bias – just vote for whoever I think would do the best job at each election.

@agent, as you say it’s up to you but her behaviour is not cool at all.

Nope I’m not that comfortable with it to be honest which is why I know the relationship now has limited shelf life. She said I made her feel awkward in the past by hinting that she should contribute towards hotel, meal, taxi etc. So now I normally pay for almost everything because it’s just easier and avoids the awkward moment when the bill arrives and she just sits there looking at me.

Like I said the sex is amazing and we have great laugh otherwise I’d have run a mile months ago, but because unfortunately because of the above then she’s not a keeper.

Currently seeing a girl who expects me to pay for almost everything. I don’t mind treating a girl but when it’s expected from her all the time then it doesn’t feel special any more, for me or her. We get on well and have lots of fun but to be honest it’s wearing a bit thin now, particularly when she’s on the cocktails at £10 a go. The great sex and the fact she’s really hot are the only reason why I’m still hanging in there. Can’t see me putting up with it for much longer.

Sorry but I think that if we all had as much cash as Mr Hamilton then the majority of us would do the same thing. I would for sure. Plus Monaco is a pretty nice place to live if you have a lot of cash – casinos and restaurants, weather, beaches, mountains, F1 history + connections etc, etc.

There seems to be a tendancy to bash people who’ve done well for themselves in the UK at the moment. Unlike various celebrities who seem to be purely famous for being famous, Lewis has worked incredibly hard to get to where he is today. Fair play to him I say.

(that concept drawing above looks fab of course, but you couldn’t actually make it)

No, but you could take a lot of the design elements from that concept and use them to create a van that looks like a new van – not a van that’s actually new but looks just like the old T5 with some slightly different lights.

Don’t bother with the fancy, artificial and expensive shakes, just do this:

Just eat way less: bread, cereal, fruit, pasta, biscuits, cakes, cheese, alcohol etc.

Just eat more: meat, fish, eggs, vegetables, nuts, porridge, wholegrain rice, full fat organic milk, coconut/almond milk etc.

Try eating every 3 hours (a healthy snack 1/2 way between each meal). You’ll never feel hungry or like it’s a diet, you’ll not have to waste time measuring portion size or counting calories and the fat (but not muscle because you’re eating plenty of protein) will literally fall away.

For £250 I’d get it done. Think you’ll find it hard to sell for a decent price with that amount of rust in place. First thing I’d be thinking as a potential buyer is ‘well if he’s let the rust get that bad, what else has he neglected’?

    Shat myself on Crib Goch

Oh so it was you then was it, Grrrrrrrr!

As others have said, park at Pen y Pass (get there very early if you want to guarantee a space) and head up via Pyg or Miners track. If you want to make things a bit more interesting on the way down then head back via Lliwedd (easier half of the Snowdon horseshoe) but fantastic views and saves backtracking on yourself.

Or you could try the South Ridge from Rhyd Ddu. Not many do but they’re missing out.

Rangers or Rhyd Ddu are a bit of a slog I find, not as scenically interesting IMO as the routes above.

This……. and the planning know it. they refused planning for more flats in the village on these grounds and the developer said the site was not economical for 2-3 bed houses so they wouldnt be developing it and leaving it dormant – in quite a prominent position on the main street.

    They got permission

Part of that is to do with the price and rarity of land for building. Apartments (or building upwards) will generate a bigger return per m2 than small houses will. Equally though if a council have a blanket policy against apartments then the value of this land would decrease, making it more attractive for builders to build 2-3bed homes. There’s a lot of brownfield land available in the UK (enough for around 2 million homes by some estimates). This is all owned by someone.

A timescale on planning and ownership of land by builders, developers etc could help. Land that’s been purchased by housebuilders with permission for housing needs to be built on within say 3 years, otherwise it automatically goes to a forced auction where it’s back up for sale again with the original owner not elegible to bid. Same applies to all the land banked by supermarkets etc.

Doing everything to stimulate demand with little focus on supply side.

Yep, that’s what the government want, to keep house prices high, all their housing policy over the last few years has been geared towards that. Despite buying a house this year I’m hoping for a crash, a sodding big crash in house price values. It’s what’s needed to get the market moving and things affordable again for most.

The other thing that’s desperately needed is more 2-3 bed starter homes. Round here the only things they build are apartments without gardens and with limited parking (perfect for BTL investors) or 4-5 bed luxury houses (perfect for the greedy BTL landlords who own the aforementioned apartments). There’s nothing in between. Madness!

Getting stuck behind someone at checkout with a handful of those bloody supermarket loyalty vouchers.

Supermarket loyalty vouchers and money off next shop coupons – just price it properly in the first place muppets.

People who seem surprised or dither around when asked by airport security staff to remove via laptop, contents of pockets etc, delaying the rest of us in the process.

Airport security staff who despite me emptying my life into the plastic box then ask, “anything in your pockets” – I’ve already bloody done it you asshat!

People in ‘fashion’ 4×4’s. Their over inflated levels if self importance, tw*ttishness and vulgarness can be directly measured by however many bodywork extras they selected from the showroom catalogue.

And the Golden Rule of negotiating is NEVER show your hand first – NEVER!

Once you know they want you, and only then, can you open the discussion on salary, with them making their offer first.

For now just make up something along the lines of “I’m sure what you are offering would be competetive so at this stage in the process I’d like to find out more about role/company/responsibility” etc.

Audi RS cars should be all about a subtle sort of menace, like a monk with a black belt carrying a hidden baseball bat under his tunic.

This looks too much in your face for my liking – besides 4-600bhp is more than enough for the road, not sure where you’d use this to it’s full potential really.

This thread is just the flip side of the “cyclists against fast car drivers” except its the car drivers against bikers this time.

We’re not against motorcyclists, it’s just that this thread is all about cars, yet all we seem to get is ‘yes but my bike is way faster, more fun, more raw than your car can ever be’. Well guess what, my uncles aerobatic plane is way faster, more fun and involving than your bike could ever be, but so what – we’re talking about cars.

In the past I have ridden motorcycles regularly off road whilst working for months in the Australian outback, usually with shorts, t-shirt and no helmet and they were a lot of fun but I have no desire to don a thick, sweaty leather suit, restrictive helmet and ride motorbikes quickly on the UK roads.

I’d argue that cars are every bit as involving as bikes once you’re on a good bit of road. Not only do you not have to wear an uncomfortable helmet which for me feels like you’re insulated slightly from what’s going on around you (maybe mine was a rubbish helmet) but because a car isn’t trying to kill you at every opportunity, the experience of a fast car, more so when its a small roadster like an Elise, can be enjoyed far more and in far greater safety for you and other road users. I’ve already pointed out that bikes are way more dangerous than cars (38 x more dangerous mile for mile).

So ride bikes if you want, I’ve no objection to that, but don’t come on here saying that bikes are better, more involving etc. because for me, and many other IMO, they just are not.

I wish the motorbike lot would keep themselves out of threads like this. We’re talking about cars not bikes. We’re all aware that bikes can be fast, hey some bikes are even faster than some cars, but then again there are some cars that are faster than some bikes.

Where they can be compared though is that riding a bike you’re unfortunately much more likely to meet your maker by riding into a stone wall. It was the multitude of fatal accidents caused by irresponsible bikers that have lead to a blanket 50mph speed limit and average speed cameras across swathes of the Peak District’s previously best driving roads, ruining it for those of us who like to drive a nice twisting road swiftly but responsibly. Thanks chaps :?

I’m not sure it’s insecurity, but it’s quite odd that people can be all grown up and mature generally, but still get a kick out of the fact they can go faster than someone else.

I mean going fast is fun, I completely understand that – the visceral thrill of acceleration can’t be denied. But why the comparison with other cars and even their drivers?

Why race bikes? Why use Strava? Why buy a longer travel bike for the downhills? Why shave weight off wheels, frame, components? Why train to get fitter? Why buy good quality kit and clothes? Why attend a skills course?

Hell, the average cyclist must be totally insecure by your standards. Who want’s to be grown up and mature anyway? Not me :)

I’ve found fun is more related to the road you’re driving on than the vehicle you’re driving on it. I’ve a 400hp plus Audi RS estate that’s crazily capable, however I drove a hired Transit down my regular twisting country road recently and it was just as much fun as the Audi (or any of the other cars I’ve previously owned, RWD stuff included).

Where the Audi feels special is when you’re just going about your daily business. It’s just nice to be in something interesting and different on a daily basis – rather than just another bland and boring Eurobox.
