Yes. Ask any grand tour veteran. Infusion on the second rest day for anaemia

Quite ironic (ha) – presume the op doesn’t have access to EPO.

    Good luck and thanks.

Hope all goes well tomorrow – we expect details.

Here is Torq’s pre race warm up:-

“work slowly up from Z2 to Z4 over 15minutes. Spin lightly in Zone 1 for 5 minutes. Then perform one 5minute (I tend to limit it to 3minutes) bout at race pace. Spin lightly in Z1 for 5minutes to finish”

Ensure you drink carbohydrate immediately after.

Just as long as no one moves from these to XTR M980 race pedals with the incredibly short life, no rebuild kit and spontaneously detaching pedal body.

The Ritcheys are good were it not for the fact that 1 in 1,000 unclips gets hung up on my shoe. Can no longer risk them.

XTM780s – much more reliable apart from 2 that needed servicing and bearing float adjusting after the first ride.

Pedals seem to get a hard life

I’m still ill, bored and suffering Kryton racing post withdrawal. How did Beastway go?

We have sadly also had a death due to a pothole this year, in which I was very closely involved.

    Whut? Sounds horrible.

How are you finding your Epic? I remember your thread.

Just bought a non WC S works frame and forks (2014 so SID) myself – Skoda in my case 😀 and no way would I dare stick it on top!

When did you last have a rest week?

If you’ve merely had a tough training block then a week off should be enough

If you’ve trained without proper resting for ages then longer.

Training Peaks PMC and fitness is to blame for a lot of overtraining IMHO.

Never mind buying one think of us who are contemplating selling one.

My 2013 Flux in raw with 1×10 XTR, AC/Crests and WW bits gets ridden about once a month. It might get me £800 if I split it. I don’t ‘need’ the money and I have the storage. I might put it on the wall because every time I look at it I smile.

One more thing and I’ll shut up. It’s really easy to think you’re doing a set amount of hours a week.

Just check the reality by dividing the last years hours (tp or connect) and divide by 365 and times by 7. The result may be sobering.

It is possible to improve on 6hrs a week. Mileage is utterly irrelevant. A proper targetted training schedule with periodisation, taper and a realistic race schedule will achieve your goals.

I’m not dissimilar but I’ve spent on coaching and understanding training. Until you do this you are giving yourself a massive handicap. Your race schedule is symptomatic. If you truly give your all on Wednesday it’s unlikely you will be able to do a high quality session until Saturday. I doubt a club run is high quality in terms of time in zone.

You also have to decide if 24:12 or xco is your priority and train for one ignoring results in the other.

Doing the same thing time after time and expecting different results is the definition of stupidity. Your Anthem gummed up last year – why would it not this year in the same conditions?

As we had this exact same discussion approx 12 months ago you really should break this cycle.

No this one has a tangent – I want to see if theres something I’ve missed

Yes the 29C you were thinking of.

You have decided you are an XC racer – why the low budget? Have a decent FS and HT for your chosen discipline.

Re the Open HA. Most others are heading the opposite way and my riding style definately prefers the slacker side of XC.

    ^^ Open?

Why oh why do they have to have such a stupidly steep HA. Scott is only 90g heavier?

Do I detect Beastway was muddy? I decided a 150mile round trip including a large section of M25 to race for an hour in the pissing rain wasn’t a good use of time.

Anyway I can’t reccomend the 29C enough. Light, confidence inspiring geometry (69.5HA) long (ETT size of a long+ on a medium seat tube), reasonable mud clearance etc. If ever an XC frame allowed you to do more it’s the 29C

FWIW I don’t think paper spec is the whole story. From memory the Canyon is rather short in the TT and Terralogics weigh a ton. At some point you’ll probably want to upgrade and you might as well do that to a decent carbon frame rather than an alloy one.

I’ve always had great service from Evans via their next day option.

I got uncharacteristically organised and ordered something via their normal despatch.

7 days later after numerous Hermes clusterf*^@ks I spoke to their customer service, had the order cancelled and recalled and the same items re-sent via next day at no cost for the inconvenience. DPD told me when I was going to get it and allowed me to track the carrier.

Great service, rubbish carrier. Hermes is complete sh*t.

I suppose it’s less of a question and more of a discussion. The gearhead in me assumed that XX1 was best but I really like the Shimano pull to change on the upshift and I was shocked at the price of the XX1 mech and shifter so I paused to think and realised that I would be paying for flexibility both in cost and weight for a need I haven’t hitherto required in the rather narrow selection of races I do.

Obviously if I went off to Cape Epic etc I’d go XX1 but I’m not. As it is I think I’m better off spending the budget on further weight reduction – RF Next SL.

I’d really like to know why XXTR didn’t work for me. Shit shifting from halfway down the cassette down to the 10. New cable, endless adjusting but getting shifting good one way meant other way rubbish.

For 3-12hr stuff I’m not needing bigger than 30T to be competitive which means I’m not finding climbing too hard. Then again BBD etc isn’t nationals.

Newer XC geo isn’t that steep – ha 69.5 on whyte 29c, scalpels, ASR-C and slacker on Czar. Still fun to ride, just a bit more forgiving. Unfortunately why I’ll never own an Open.
