It’s different under pressure / at HR max

Ain’the that right! Passed someone on lap 3. Got more tired, he gained, the more I heard him gain, the more ragged my riding. All he had to do was wait for me to fall off.

Also at Checkendon. No punch off the line and some astonishingly bad bike handling under pressure. I did however enjoy myself a lot!

I am so bad at XC I may concentrate on it next season. How can I be so bad at a shorter version of what I do ok at?

    As does the Diabolo

You could consider a Lupine Piko – lighter on the head as separate battery but not lighter on the wallet.

Approx 113 of us are going to be killed this year (2014 data).

ROSPA quotes The most common vehicle involved in collisions with cyclists is a car or taxi, with the rider usually being hit by the front of the vehicle. In a quarter of fatal cyclist accidents, the front of the vehicle hit the rear of the bicycle.

28 deaths from what transpires when a close pass isn’t a pass

I can’t seen ANYTHING being done to stop this attrition. Talking about it in this vaguely jocular way seems almost to condone it.

Do they do any decent sets for XC?
Either i’m failing horribly at navigating their site, or they seem a bit on the heavy side

I just bought the lightest rims they did 2 years ago. I asked for the lightest and they undertook to ensure they were no more than X.

From memory they were only about 20g lighter than Crests but add to that the ability to run lighter spokes (and fewer if you care to) and still have a stiffer rim and the difference is greater.

I’d be tempted with their tubular rim…….

[/quote]If you are going to store tyres for long periods, clean them first then put them inside one of those thick bin bags and tape it up thrown them away

Like you will eventually if you tape them up and store.

Major aim of 2016 achieved – podium at TIYS. 100hrs (25%)of training down on 2015 due to house move/injury/illness but a lot of lessons/racecraft picked up in the preceding 2 years was a big help. Did take a huge amount of willpower not to pack in from 7hrs on despite pacing very carefully.

No desire to do anything long again this season so plan is to do some XC before base. This is going to be interesting as all my training has been geared to 6hrs plus. People I beat over 6hrs nearly lap me at XC…..

I’ll be making a note to buy from you in the future.

Your spannering may be faultless, your colour co-ordination (that ring!) less so

FWIW I ride the Ridgeway on 30T and given the number of Scwalbe Evos I’ve wrecked a cheap wheel/tyre set is very sensible. Overbiked? Bet it’s comfy.

    Did you sell your ‘Fish?

Jeez that was hard! How did everyone do?

Unable to sleep – 5 caffeine gels and 16normal. Wired, aching and stomach making weird noises.

The ceramic hybrid in my 29c spins such that a CK seems positively friction bound. Very impressive.

Rollers are much quieter than a turbo. It’s hard to make noise sat in a box waiting to be sold.

    Changed mine on Wednesday.

ISIS tool held in by son, 5foot bar over end of 8″ ratchet drive.

Supposed to be 40NM more like 400.

White accentuates it but surely it’s about time they went internal cable routing?

The fact that alloy is history makes me glad I never sold this

I specB matchmakers were designed for 10speed IspecB shifters

If you go IspecB for 11speed shifters You may need to ‘adapt’ ie file your tech lever matchmaker as shimano’s interpretation of IspecB for M8000 XT is different to 10speed.

This meant I had to file my Ispec B matchmaker to fit my race evo matchmakers.

Ispec2 is more likely to have been designed for the actual shifters you want to use.

A pound heavier than the outgoing alloy frame?

Sorry doesn’t do it for me. Love my 2013 26″ raw flux, wpuld have ‘updated’ to the 27.5 version but the carbon offering leaves me cold.

Whats are thought of starting at 3pm from the get go with lights mounted to avoid the transition time of changing up?

Surely for the 2 hours / two laps of darkness only a decent bar light would be needed?

Bar light only is crap. I know I ran out of helmet light 2 years ago. It may be OK on your own but in the company of racers with megawatts it’s really crap.

I have a light on a spare helmet – changing helmets and clipping a bar light on isn’t time consuming.

You have to have passed the finish line by 8:59:59 for the lap to count. If you go over the lap won’t count and your previous lap finish time will be used.

FWIW my approach has fundamentally changed given my recent knee issues. Bike has 28T front, I’ll be trying to start hard to avoid the queue then throttling right down and spinning round. I do not want to feel like death at 8hours! Finishing in good order is my aim ready for holiday flight at 6am. What could possibly go wrong!?

For me I might be climbing, then going on bridle paths then on to single track red routes

Sounds like a decent XC bike to me.

I train on bridleways/double track and ride singletrack with the odd visit to Wales/FOD etc. Ride the odd drop off etc but generally wheels on the ground type of thing.

Alternate between a 100mm 26″ Flux and a 80mm 29er Spearfish. Set up quite firm so the rear just absorbs big stuff. Not felt under biked and climbing remains fun.

I’d not get hung up on 20-30mm (it’s one inch!) but concentrate more on type of bike/quality of suspension.

    Alternating front wheel/back wheel hanging.

Hooks 13″ (for 29ers) from the wall and 6.5feet off the ground allowing the back wheel to hand about 4-6″ off the ground with the uppermost wheel against the wall.

Hooks 24″ apart – tried 16″ ie joist width but it was a nightmare getting bikes in and out and any movement caused the whole line to bump against eachother.

Had a Ti Swift. Comfy but despite proofing was starting to stretch from sweat. Sold before I wrecked it.

Carry a lot of food in my jersey pockets plus arm warmers/gilet etc but I’d never consider sticking anything hard (eg pump or tool etc)next to my spine/kidneys.

Tyre levers. However many I have I can’t find one when I need to.

    Getting ahead of myself.

Physio tomorrow. Don’t know prognosis at the moment. On line seems to think ice, ibuprofen, rest, stretching and exercises should see a good chance of sorting it quickly but I can’t see how a 12hr race fits in with that.

Now I’ve got a patellar compression injury 😥 350 hours training for TIYS and I’m going to have to withdraw. 2017 – the season where racing never happened. Think I may make 2018 the season where training doesn’t happen in the hope I might actually do some racing.

Happy to have got over some nasty cramp on lap 4 on the bit over the A27 – not raced that hard for a while which is probably what did it,

Exactly where I cramped and on lap 4 too. Unfortunately I couldn’t shake mine and had to retire on lap 5.

Over ambitious, over geared, overcooked – cramped in 4th (Grand Vet) at half way and couldn’t nurse myself on with the 2 big full gas climbs. Dissapointing but stronger field this year so podium wasn’t going to happen this time.

Sportives need to branch out to provide more variety and improve local economies.

There should be sportive crits in deprived areas eg Glasgow Gorbals etc. Provide a Crit loop, name it something like ‘King of the Crits’, award jerseys (yellow, green, white and polka dot), publish explicit and detailed timing data and see the positive effect 1,000 Audis and associated Colnagos have on local gumtree/A&E. Racing licences bar entry.

    Oh please let it happen

    2x52x25 = 2,600miles in all weathers

Sounds like your forks are service interval related. Suspension bearings sound about right. HS sounds unlucky, BB would expect a couple at least.

I take this as a vindication of my multiple bike strategy. If you save by having a one does all FS then I think you have to accept slightly higher running costs when you use it in the winter.

I hate the idea of grinding a FS through the mire of the Chilterns winter when I can train at least as effectively on a HT with rigids and probably single speed at that.

^^ The camber sounds a nighmare. I’ll only be racing my Epic and in the dry at that.

Please do ask to be tested for Lyme Disease. Your average GP probably won’t see a case in their lifetime. Your symptoms do fit (taking account of 33% of cases not having the typical tell tale rash)

There’s a lot of climbing so anything you can do to minimise weight, and increase power transfer is worth it.

In the blur that was last year I don’t remember wanting any additional travel or comfort but I do remember wanting new lungs.

^^ think an average of 85% of MHR for 6hrs. Pure hell – it’s a tough time category.

Not sure why a move from a 650b ht to a 29er would make anyone want to go fs. If anything a 29er ht is even more comfortable and has more grip so fs is less required.

CS length as well as all the other geo will affect nimbleness so you’re probably looking at boost rear ends?

I have one 29er that is definately less nimble – my Spearfish. I think it’s a function of longer wheelbase.

Adrian at Cadence Sport, he’s around the Stafford area.

Very good indeed. Will do foot beds and cleat set up which is probably where your issues are.

I’ve not heard a bad thing about him.
