This (poor) photo was taken in italy on the Tuscany trail – it was really hard to tell what they were. But their behaviour and the picture showed them to be hummingbird hawk moths

I’m confused – can you get fumble on reddit? I thought out had to brave the like of plenty.of.piranhas.com for that sort of online experience

I make my topping with a few oats, soft Brown sugar and sometimes a bit of mixed spice (depends on filling). My favourite filling atm is rhubarb with some chopped crystallised ginger mixed through – makes a lovely contrast in textures and flavors when cooked

Ha ha you’ve just made me laugh CaptainSQ I know plenty of middleclass people with chips on their shoulders. Although they are probably lightly fried hand cut sweet potato chips, rather than McCains

Ha ha – no I’m not an interfering dad . . .just a mother with a vague interest in many things. I have a chemistry degree to my name but rarely use it these days.

I was just pondering how you would shift the smell as it is one that definitely seems to linger.

I have passed this link on to my son who as bar manager is working with the owners to find ways around it. From the sound of it there doesn’t seem to be an easy solution . . . Banning perching may indeed be a start 🙂

It is fantastic, bundled my boys into the cinema without telling them a thing about it. They thought it was going to be some random subtitled thing (it was the local arty cinema).

They are 11 and 13 and absolutely loved it – lots of great discussion afterwards. Really makes you think – not only is it good to talk but it really shows the importance of how you go about dialogue

So glad we saw it in the cinema too – wouldn’t have appreciated the cinematography so well on the small screen

Thanks I shall pass all of this on, maybe steaming the place with malt vinegar will at least make it smell more like a chip shop than a fish wife’s boudoir

Ha ha – I’m sure idris has been covered in another thread somewhere.

Really you should look to start knitting – it’s a beautifully logical and really useful craft.

I will have a look – i already have a 50mm stem so thought about maybe finding a 50mm 25° stem to get a bit more upright.

But Jones are definitely on my ‘to try’ list

Thanks, A’Wench (like a wrench but more fun 😉 )

I’m not sitting at home all day knitting jumpers for hours just for ‘fun’ for any man . . . Well I might for Idris Elba 😉

Wow – loving this thread even more! Didn’t think there would ever been a decent knitting thread on stw!

Knitting with 4 nails in a cotton reel.is French knitting and just makes a knotted braid tube – ive only used that technique once to make some replacement braid for something specific once . . .so i would say just learn to knit on two needles first and foremost. The Internet should give you enough tutorials. Bear in mind if you are a lefty you may have to find instructions in reverse (a book and mirrors helped me teach my eldest – but I’m sure YouTube can help)

I had either that or a very similar machine to that – fast but will make your shoulders ache. Also trickier to source prepared wools (waxed) for machines than balls of yarn.

The price of wool is ridiculous, but there are other sources of reasonable yarn. I used to work freelance as a knitting pattern checker and have a library of high end patterns.

If I were to knit with the yarn specified the garments would be £100 ish before if even picked up my needles

As long as you understand yarn weights and stretch and can read the given tension and yarn length per ball it is easy to work out substitutes.

Also ebay – there seems to be a lot of people who buy the wool and never knit it up.

Paying for the wool and delivery? I suggest you learn how to knit yourself if you aren’t prepared to pay for the hours of work involved:)

This is my stooge as it is at the moment (well not exactly as it’s locked up out of sight so I don’t get tempted to either cry or ride it!)

Comparing it to the ones above it looks quite upright already – so a few tweaks and I could make it even more so

Ha ha . . .the more I see that picture the more I want one. May not work so well in Sheffield though.

Have been in touch with Andy re tweaking the stooge. I have plenty of time as I’m not allowed on any bike atm. And if it snows I’m not even leaving the house until my head is stuck back on properly 😉

(Re the fargo it just apoersto be a bit shorter in the top tube- which made me think it might be a bike easier to be more upright)

I have some 650b+ wheels for my stooge and they did help make things more comfy. Just need to get the angle right to make it usable

Yes a STW chilli collective . . . Happy to volunteer in any chilli chutney making. This year’s batches included a recipe I created for ginger and lemon chilli chutney – with the help of some yellow tomatoes I managed to keep it an amazing colour too

Yes something like that would be good. I have a pair of on one carbon OG bars that I may try too. They. Are currently on my scandal, they have a bit more sweep that the salsa ones I have on the stooge, but I think i would definitely go down the carbon route as it does seem to help smooth things out a bit

I have dropped Andy at stooge and email to ask for his suggestions already. He has given me a few ideas – and I will do this if I can as it’s a lovely bike.

I run either 29 on it or 650b+ already both tubeless. I think I have some forks in a cupboard somewhere but not sure there’s enough steerer on them . . . Will dig them out.

Andy did suggest Jones bars too.

Have a few months to play with so looks like I will be buying and selling bike parts a lot until the spring

I know of a rather high profile chap who after coming back from Afghanistan in a very bad way, with multiple injuries. Had 56k raised in his name for hfh – they took it but didn’t offer him any support beyond a nursing home bed.

He is now doing really well with help and support from the Pilgrim bandits – worth having a Google.

They offer a different approach to helping injured veterans.

As I understand it the caution is due to the fact the disc above my 3 fused vertebrae is already bulging and pressing on the exiting nerves at c4/5. In an attempt to delay the time this needs surgery they are saying I have to stay of the rough terrain and watch the angles my neck is at whilst riding.

I’m not daft and know it makes sense . . .still doesn’t make it any less upsetting.

OK maybe a little late in the evening for a bump – but it would be nice to hear of some positive experiences

A couple of people have suggested that, however I can’t see the neck is in a better position like that, it’s flexed rather than extended but I’ve been advised to aim to keep my neck in a neutral position where I can.

Aside from that it would be a bugger to fit on my bike rack and put luggage on

Having ignored symptoms in my hands for so long, putting it down to different bikes/gloves/bars/terrain etc etc – I had rather a shock when I finally got an mri and it showed moderate/severe cord compression with myelopathy in my neck . . . Personally I’d get it looked at 😉

I use one of these to shift my bottle mount position to allow me to put a side mount bottle cage on my stooge under my frame bag. Shifts it an inch – which makes a lot of difference

To practice as a nurse she needs the advanced diploma – it may be worth looking at it she has passed this with the rest of the course she has done. I did nursing a long time ago so this may have changed, however our course was for the diploma with the degree based on the dissertation.

There are many ways she could then go on to to do the degree later open university – or obviously via her institution that she is currently with.

We were among the first year to do nursing at Sheffield hallam as previously nursing had been delivered at the uni of Sheffield. There were many complaints about the way the course was delivered and supervised.

I would say don’t be afraid to pursue the uni for letting down their side of things. Nursing courses are hard in terms of juggling study and work placements and the tutors have to be available to offer guidance.

If she has passed her diploma this should give her some reassurance that she can start looking for work whilst she sorts out the degree/dissertation.

A weekend city break somewhere – I’m not a big one for presents etc as I tend to buy myself what I need. Over the years the one thing I’ve always wanted is a proper surprise break where I don’t have to do any of the organising.

The joys of being a mum mean you seem to be diary and events manager for the family and it would be really nice just to be told ‘keep x dates free & given a vague idea of what to pack for’

Just trying to be positive – and I’d rather be worrying about how to keep myself busy afterwards than worrying about anything else right now:)

Thanks to my very lovely colleagues who gave me a gift card I now have a new tab2 to play with (with accidental damage cover for my butter Fingers!)
