Whilst I was putting up our tent last night I heard the conversation around the camp fire … my youngest was telling my friend all about mummy’s new ‘cycle across bike’ – he really took on board my description of it as a ride anywhere sort of bike!

Looks great . . . But it really does make me wonder if any cycling psychologists out there want to do a Phd on what someones bike says about their personality 🙂

Got a taxi with my eldest two when then 5 year old son asks very loudly. . ‘Mum why are all taxi drivers brown?’

I was sat in the middle at the back with the drivers eyes fixed on me – he raised his eyebrows in a friendly but ‘like to see how you get out of this one’ kind of way

And for furture use – maybe install an app that backs up sms to her gmail account. Great if you accidentally leave your phone somewhere as you can just look via a pc at you incoming texts.

There’s very little that is just saved to my phone – I ? android – fruit free here and smug with it too!

no tattoo’s but i have mad itchy scars that become red and raised – sometimes so bad i feel get palpitations trying not to hack them to pieces.

GP could only recommend antihystamine – and luckily it works. luckily it doesn’t happen often and i am used to the feeling of the general tingling i get before hand so try and take the tablet as soon as i feel it happening.

some of their more expensive stuff is good – but I am not to convinced with the chamois – I wouldn’t wear their padded stuff for more than a few hours riding.

I have some of their winter tights with a wind proof membrane – they are brilliant but haven’t seen them do any more of them this year. i wore these on the Bearbones event in January but wore endura shorts underneath.

I did have a look at some new shorts from there recently and the chamois looked better – but i didn’t get them because the only colour they had was white. i get told off for wearing stuff till it’s seethru as it is – that would just take it to a whole new level of wrong!

A company can start a ctc bug (bicycle user group) cant remember all the ins and outs but worth looking into as it gives some benefits of ctc membership for a minimal amount.

If routes may be an issue print off a map showing good local roads for cycling. Maybe next to a pin board so people can out where can put cards up asking for riding buddies – if people could see how many people are doing it already or are interested in having a go they might feel more than inspired…. and just having a notice board you are more likely to be having a look and meeting other people who are curious

Have taken all of mine from and early age (from 6 weeks onwards). Used baby sleeping bags (vango nitestar etc) but never bothered with a travel cot. When they were small they would be on a matt between ours made keeping an eye on them and feeding them easier. I would usually lie doen with them to help settle them ehrn they were younger but as they get older laying in sleeping bags chatting and reading books is more fun.

I have camped at -7 with my two youngest, we used a double airbed I was in the middle so they rolled against me. I can thorougly recommend them as draught excluders and they appreciated me as a hot water bottle – the boys loved it espescially waking up in a frosty frozen tent

We all sleep better in tents than we do in houses – makes me wonder if we could have a bedouin style existance sometimes.

Make sure you pick your site well too – endearing features such as rivers and babbling brooks are best avoided just in case they do make a break for it (for the record I’ve never lost one camping yet)

Not familiar with wingnut pack, but do they have ladder locks? They should be secure if threaded properly if they aren’t they are useless.

Fixed my fence, cut my lawn, hung some washing out, painted part of the fence ( til I got bored)

Finally put the last few nails in the coffin of a relationship I’ve been having for three and a half years. Gutted but I guess some things don’t last forever.

Now to tidy my house like a manic woman to keep mind occupied – then out tonight for a curry and a few drinks with the girls

Been on the wagon but feel like leaping off said wagon and drowning myself in a vat of cuba libre

I have seen just about every bike riding round sheffield in the last few weeks -fixies, singlespeed, sturmey archer 3 speeds and even a unicycle! So im not sure where superficial has been hiding.

When I moved here in 97 to come to uni the place definitely wasn’t so cycle friendly. There were barely any bike racks in town. There were plenty at uni though but you had to be careful how you locked it and I once had to cycle down to freecycle that used to be on west street to buy an new saddle after one lecture as it had been knicked.

The first bike I had was a piece of junk – and that got knicked as I had used a regular cable lock. Luckily I found the bike again in cash converters and got it back. But I do lock my nicer bikes up around their now – but just use proper locks.

If your based around the hospitals at all they have locked bike sheds – I guess these are accessible by the medical and dental students as well as the staff. Im not sure if they have improved security around the main campus at all.

I would still say get a cheaper bike to commute to uni – once your legs get used to the hills you’ll be able to get everyehere you need to a lot quicker and saves the ridiculous bus fares. Plus the fact if you did end up in crookes you could probably lay in till 8.50 and still have time to get to a 9 o clock lecture in plenty of time! (Maybe tricky to shower in that time but you’ll be a student so it wont matter)

I fitted a supertourist to my 29er inbred – I had it already so made it fit as I didn’t want to buy another.

I filed down the attachment points that hold the lower bolts, can add pics later if it helps

Turn the bars more? Like doing a few extra laps of roundabouts or maybe zigzagging everywhere? Might work like tacking into a head wind . . . . But may annoy other ‘road’ users

Maybe she is a good mum but just not great at running things smoothly? Maybe im just too used to having to deal with children to be so judgemental – like I say it works for them

If I had a partner that went round organising keys and bags just to keep order and ensure smooth running of things I would notice but wouldn’t complain

And why narcissism? I am guessing he doesnt go round the house saying look at how great I am whilst doing it – and if it prevents stress he is doing it for an easy life more than anything surely? Being a mum of 4 I cant see its much different to me constantly sorting stuff – I do it for no other reason than it makes my life easier

I would guess that the fat would go rancid before anything else happened. If that happened it wouldnt taste right

Also I am assuming its a cooked chorizo that can be eated without cooking – some are more like sausages and have to be cooked before eating – if it was one of those I might give it a miss

I had mine out at 25, never had tonsillitis but had holes in them and things used to get stuck.

Wasnt too bad afterwards a bit of blood but no haemorrhages. I did get an infection after a week but survived.

My eldest son had his out at 16 (3 years ago) and they used a new technique. He seemed to recover well. I think they used a laser (but the name of the proceedure escapes me atm). Definitely better for him jot to have tonsils as he was suffering sleep apnoea as well as recurrent tonsillitis

I bought a jar of grated horseradish the other day and was really impressed – I am sure it’s great to grow your own etc but as I’m not a massive meat eater it seems excessive to do so.

The English provinder company hot grated horseradish gets my vote – just stirred through a little cream and it was brilliant. I like to be assaulted by my food and it really does have a kick to it

Maybe there should be a ‘decide for me thread’ – if you’re struggling then just ask the forum and take the first answer (im sure if you had to implement someone elses suggestion you’d soon develop the ability to find your own answers)

Getting my bike from our underground garage at work in a hurry one day, chucked my leg over clipped in a stood up on the pedal to make a swift exit …

Unfortunately my chain was at the end of its life and prone to jumping -it jumped off and I did a spectacular landing on the garage floor.

It hurt but I couldnt help but laugh, and was tempted to ask for the security video as im sure it looked ridiculous

I would, always better to be working even if the money’s not great. Combining car and bike to commute is also good as it gives you loads of route options. And hopefully in our long hot summer you will develop awesome fitness and a brilliant tan – think of how much people spend on gyms to acheive that.

As tazzy says we really do have it easy.

Id get a decent map of the area, look at good routes from where the job is back towards where you live and then consider where you can park . Maybe start with a 10 or 15 mile ride.

The savings are noticible even when I split my commute and thats only about 9 miles (and I only split it when my boys cant ride etc – I can always manage the distance!).

They have been before, luckily my 9 year old will get tunnel vision and sit mesmerised for the whole game the 8 year old will either do that or talk incessantly. So that and my lalala-ing cover most of it

Plus they know the rules – you’re not allowed to swear until you’ve been to university or worked for 5 years 🙂
