Unfortunately I was one of the strangest things my daughter woke up to one day.

I had a house full and she was home from uni a couple of years back so it was agreed that she would sleep in my bed. She got in earlier than me so went to bed.

I cant remember the specific occasion but I go in very late and was very drunk – so drunk I’d bought a kebab on the way home and even took it upstairs with me (something I had never done before or since!).

So my lovely daughter who was about 22 at the time woke up to some hideous stench of second hand rum and festering kebab – only to find it was coming from her mother . . . .She knows i don’t drink now but I think she worried that was my normal behaviour for a while!

I dont own one – just borrowed one to remove some pedals that had been in my old bike for 7 years – they were a little stuck :-/

Long leverage and thinner than an average spanner to get in the smaller gap – most regular spanners are too fat and short

Are we getting back on topic?

    Pedal spanner 🙂

Edit: just looked at it from a different angle *scrubs brain* – things not to do with a pedal spanner spring to mind

I need one of those? To take my pedals off so they can’t ride away on my bike, or maybe I could throw the pedals at them – time pedals are fairly hefty so they would hurt I guess.

Or just attack them with it – yes you would, wouldn’t you …. (just in case we drifting too far off topic!)

Ah yes I would also do the Seychelles too!

No screw drivers – powertools all they way 🙂

I wish it were the case but since I have lived here there has been a steady stream of attempts to get my bikes. They have succeeded twice – the first was my old kawasaki and they then got my Orange. The police recivered the motorbike and I recovered the orange.

Just have to be so careful and hope one day I can afford to live somewhere better :-/

Thank you BN, very upsetting and completely scuppered the Welsh Ride Thing for me this weekend as i couldn’t leave everything unsecure.

Just glad the two youngest were at their Dad’s. Did make me feel like i needed a man around briefly today – but soon fixed padlocks on everything and installed an alarm and feeling much more empowered now 🙂

Edit: yes appreciate the tounge in cheek-ness of much on here (my own post definitely included in that!)

‘i never thought i’d ever be doing this to a pensioner’

A classic line my ex’s mum came out with a breakfast soon after her 60th birthday – she told us all how his Dad had been quite amused by the idea the night before

We were quite shocked for her to come out with it – over breakfast with kids about, but good on them.

ha ha – you guys make me laugh. Which is very welcome as i have been in a major sulk after an attempted break-in at my house last night.

The number of you that claim to have standards is actually reassuring – having officially sworn myself of the whole dating thing some time ago it almost gives me hope – or maybe that was just today’s sunshine.

Only after going through a phase of draining time and resources and of being no help at all!

Hate to depress you but that stage definitely returns with vengence from 13 – 19, my second has just turned 20 and I have 3 whole teenager free years til no 3 turns 13. Really not looking forward to it all over again!

I have recently worked on a stress at work case where the claimant produced pages and pages of facebook message thread screen shots to back up his argument.

They were of conversations he had with a colleague before they fell out but contained some very personal stuff.

it really makes you think where stuff you write will end up :-/

I’m not sure I’ve met a gay one but I know at least one bi-cyclist and I wouldnt be surprised after the lady boy thread that there might be some on here …

A guy I worked with got married quickly as they found out a baby was on the way. Her family were quite middleclass and were not impressed when they were told it was in the registry office followed by a trip to pizza express to make the most of the all you can eat lunch buffet then to one of the local pubs.

The bride and groom were happy and surely thats all that matters!

Sorry – shouldnt have pointed it out so early – it could all change yet *practices positive thinking*

Looked at yr.no weather site, didnt analyse it too hard as it depressed me quite quickly – at least there will be plenty of opportunities to wade through bogs and fall in rivers

(Dont worry that isnt obligatory – just cant seem to stop myself!)

I would much prefer to rely on my instincts than the information insisted upon by the EU.

Way too much food gets unnecessarily wasted because of them.

I quite often find inspiration looking at the food on death row in the supermarket – when you’re not sure what you fancy for supper. Student habits die hard I guess!

Love it when you did in to a a mega thread to see what’s going on – then after you’ve read it you get the thought – ‘ooh i’ll think i’ll just leave them to it and metaphorically creep out and shut the door quietly behind me’

36 posts and nobody’s mentioned the glaringly obvious way for a single gentleman to unwind at the end of a long day?

I think you find it has been inferred before – and it’s not just a boy thing i’m sure

i do about 8 miles each way – depending on route. however the first 4 I do with my 8 & 9 year olds as i ride to their school then head into sheffield for work.

I like to do it all year round but if the boys have stuff to do straight from school i sometimes drive to their scool and get my bike out of the car and ride to town – it’s always faster to do the last bit by bike especially when it’s bad weather and the city becomes gridlocked.

Even on a grumpy day it only takes a couple of miles of riding for everyone to be smiling – can beat a bit of bicycle induced happiness in the mornings 🙂

Edit – ride either my in-bred 29er or genesis croix de fer, both great fun as we sometimes do an off road route. I like the genesis when i’m late though!

I dont technically live on my own but I am and have been a single parent so am quite often alone in the evenings. I find the crucial thing is to go to sleep when I first get tired, if I go through that I get into a a bit of a busy midset and will end up staying awake and being knackered when I drag myself out of bed.

Wouldnt rely on alcohol to help, it does help you fall asleep but I always seem to be wide awake wheb it wears off – usually in the small hours

Yes drive me mad, sound like one of those rattles youd see at football matches – had to borrow a pair of wheels once and I pedalled the whole way as I couldn’t stand it. The guy I ride with also has them – evenbhis drive me nuts at times.

Why spoil the peaceful bliss of coasting down hill with that racket

I suspect those that like them also used to out bits of plastic next to their tyres as kids to make it sound like they had an engine . . . .

There’s a few different cycling jeans out there

Or you could go for the nice spandex ones that seem to be trendy …. guessing more acceptable on girls than your average stw inhabitant, but they are the nearest to lycra jeans you’ll get 😉

Cant comment on the bikes but if the size of the old galaxy is anything to go by, the room is a lot greater than an estate.

The three seats in the middle row and the back seats are proper sized seats so you dont feel squahed up if three adults are in the back

The best thing for me was all the back seats recline, and so did our britax car seats (they had good head support too) so if I was going a long distance I would pack the car up and leave after teatime. Kids ready for bed and each with a blanket, seats reclined and they would be asleep in minutes. Bliss when you have a 5+ hour journey ahead.

Galaxy – I had two and only recently changed to a smaller estate (as my eldest two had left home) – still miss it, such brilliant cars

My two youngest boys are massive bill Bailey fans and have been since they got shown the tinsleworm dvd when they were 6&7 – I sometimes wonder how they find some of it amusing, and its sometimes hard to explain to other people when they start quoting him.
May say quite a lot about their strange humour (and my parenting) but I think there are a lot worse things they could be in to

I think if you can go to prison because your children play truant from school you should be able to be held responsible for their other behaviour. Parents with children whose behaviour is not good and arebtrying to sort will obviously be known and taken into account – statement or not.

I have 4 children and would feel completely responsible if their behaviour fell short

I look at parents like linda doran – with three sons convicted for murder under the age of 24 and am amazed bad parenting is not a bigger issue. Certain sections of society seem to get away with produving kids for benefits and then allowing them to be raised without any guidance other than computer games

There’s a really nice piece on the back of the book ‘its all about the bike’ by robert penn. Have tried to google it but cant find a pic – the heading is ‘a bicyle saves my life every day’ and it really does sum up the buzz you get from riding

It was an old giro e2 . . . Definitely older than 3 years, and yes I know it should have been changed before but at least it still worked on sunday night but definitely needs changing now.

Also I did fit my head well but have tried on a couple of newer giros recently and they didn’t fit so well. Have tried a couple of mets on and may end up getting one of those.

I dont have any problem with buffs under helmets but getting a ponytail or a fleece hat when its really cold can be a bit trickier

I find it sexy, probably sexier when the sun is shining and you have the wind in your hair – I guess like other things it feels sexier when carefree and without protection!

But to be honest you can’t beat a fit man on a bike – what’s not to like?

    adjustablewench

I think I might go for one a similar shape to the old giro I had then as I do tend to wear fleece buffs and high collars
